Great warm-up tournament. AFter pool play was completed, the #1 seeds from each pool were:

Pool A - Diamond Jaxx 09
Pool B - Texas Raptors
Pool C - Dallas Mustangs-16U Gustafson
Pool D - Team Kelley

Diamond Jaxx played the Raptors and lost 2-0. Team Kelley also advanced by beating the Mustangs

Team Kelly won the final game against the Raptors after a 3-run comeback rally was put out in the bottom of the 7th, 8-7.

It was a wet weekend but a great tune up for the summer in front of all of the teams.
Hey, that's not a knock on playing corner outfield, a positon where young Hawk son as spent some innings. Right now, that appears to be the greatest position of need based on injuries and roster numbers - nothing more. If DBAT 16 brings in a third shortstop, great. Whoever hits is who plays. All I'm saying is that if there are three, one will likely move to the OF - and while I don't know the two current shorstops that well, my guess is neither of the two would complain if it meant being on the field. They just want at-bats, however those come.
kirk -- I don't know who you are referring to and my guess is that no one will "step forward" to identify the team(s) that used pitchers with such short rest. But...in any case...I think it is terribly irresponsibile. Has winning become THAT important? Dads, wake up...before it's too late for your 15 or 16 yr old son. I don't understand coaches that did it in the playoffs -- and I don't understand coaches that did it in this meaningless summer tournament. Ridiculous.

Kirk,
I think I know one team that did. . Could it be a team that made it to play the last game on Monday.

Also we played your DBAT 16 our first game Friday. Wanted to compliment your team, we played ya'll close but just couldn't get those runs across in the 7th. P1s son (P .5 version 2) pitched the last 5 innings against ya'll.

You have a great group of kids there, Good luck this summer.

My understanding was it did happen with one of the Championship teams and I know it wasn't the Texas Raptors.
You know I try to keep my mouth shut, but sometimes the need necessitates saying something. My son did pitch 11 innings over a 3 day period with a day of rest in between. He pitched about 125 pitches. He has been pitching in HS, so it is not like he is not in pitching form. He is one of the ones that can handle it.

I think the thing that truly bugs me is that many of you feel the need to bash our decision, especially when I know who so many of you are and have been approached to have Zach play with you (or have played with you in the past NTXdad). It is unbelievable.

I hate baseball for this reason. Zach can handle it, he doesn't care what anyone else thinks. I can assure you he won't go around badmouthing your kid or another team. Just as most kids won't, its the parents that take all the fun and joy out of baseball. I wonder if your kids really love it as much as you do? Time will tell.
4LClover,

I don't think anyone bashed the kid or his ability. It is crazy to think that any 16U kid can handle that kind of work load. Every kid is going to say that he can handle it, because they are kids and don't want to let anyone down. The coaches should care enough about the kids to know better. I am not saying the coaches don't care about these kis but this shows poor judgement. MLB pitchers can't handle that type of workload, what makes you think High School kids can! Sounds more like an ego issue with the coach and maybe not wanting to lose.
4leafclover -- calm down a bit. Smile Plain and simple, this situation generates questions in people's minds.

No one is bashing your kid. When people post here, they are sharing their opinions -- surely you know that -- you're not a newbie. The overwhelming opinion here is that a kid will not manage his own pitching situation....a coach has to do that for him. Many will argue that 125 pitches is NOT too much. So maybe it is ok. But, I think it would be more unusual if people did not question a scenario where a kid (any kid) threw 11 innings in 3 days in a meaningless summer tournament.

I don't know you -- have never met you -- but I respect your kid, based solely on what I have heard. Maybe he is one of the kids that "can handle it"....but can the kid sitting next to him? Are you really advocating this? What does this situation have to do with other teams wanting your son to play for them? I must be missing something. Are you really that surprised that some would question this situation? Didn't you wonder about the kid from a Lewisville school that threw 200 pitches in the same playoff series?

You don't need to feel sorry for yourself. I've never heard a bad word about you or your kid. He is a stud. But....the summer's first tournament? Come on. To be honest, I have never heard anything negative about Team Kelly either. And what does this have to do with anyone's love for the game?

I think you are overreacting.

JMO.
You can think about it however you want, but I said it was okay. Many of Zach's teammates have not been pitching alot and are not quite ready too. I just find it so ridiculous that these dads get on here and say whatever they want when they should be looking at their own diamond. My kid loves the game and has fun. Watch him. Can you say as much about your own?
4LClover,

Panter Dad is right, this isn't about 1 kid. Most High School kids are still growing and developing at 16 and aren't ready for that type of workload.

As far as your son goes, is he also the stud QB prospect that I have read about over on Hornfans. If so, there are many UT fans that want him to come and be the future QB. He has stirred much conversation. Sounds like you have a very talented kid. You must be very proud.
Yeah, I can say as much about my own. You're obviously missing the points being made here (not just by me). You find it ridiculous that people are questioning your coaches -- most of us find it ridiculous that your kid was put in this situation. I have no earthly idea what this has to do with your son's love for the game. I've seen him play....his enthusiasm matched that of his teammates.....ok.
