So, Flower Mound Marcus had 2 All-State firstbase men? That has to be a little unusual -- a part-time player being better than 2000 starters across the state. Smile

As we've mentioned, these lists are always interesting.

Before anyone feels compelled to defend the Marcus players (or slam me), I KNOW they both had great seasons -- and props to Coach Chumbley who obviously went to bat for his kids when it came to the post-season awards. I'm becoming a HUGE FM Marcus fan -- shhhhhhh!

I am proud of any young man who receives an award for his accomplishments, but I do not understand how the coaches association, or the sports writers decide on how they arrive at the choices they make. I would only assume that the coach of the respective team has alot of weight as to who gets chosen. From what I have witnessed, it does not matter how well they perform on the field but just how close the parents are to the coach! From looking at the selections, at each classification, there are several key players who helped their teams tremendously, but yet received nothing! That is not a good way to build a unified team, all it does is brew hatred and discontent among the better players that are truly dedicated to givng their all, while the ones who did receive awards, just gloat, and loaf! Not a good situation, if a coach wants to win!
I think it's interesting that TSWA "list" is not more closely aligned with THSCA list of All-State Awards recipients, class 5a thru 3a
Looks too, as if South Texas is strongly favored across the board, While North Texas players seem fewer & at lower levels. (example: 5A Shawn Tolleson is honorable mention?? That makes no sense! Preston Paramore only honorable mention??? no sense to that either!)
Maybe I'm biased...
I'd like to understand the "criteria"...Anyone in the know?

Regardless...Congrats to all our North Texas players!

This list means nothing! There is a player on the list that only played a handful of games this yead due to failing grades but since he was on the list last year then as a right of passage he makes the list again. Also found a player who made it as a first baseman and an outfielder, the player in question didn't play one game in the outfield.

This list is bogus, lots of great players left off. But did we expect anything less?
Try living out where my kid plays [West Texas / Pahandle]. If there is not a local coach [THSCA] or sportswriter [TSWA] from the kid's neck of the woods willing to go to bat for a kid, then no way he makes the list. Most won't stick their neck out, and so some pretty good ballplayers get left out. Also, notice how some programs, in good years and bad, always seem to have one or two kids on the lists. Jason Becker's Texas Baseball News is a good source if you want to see who some of the better kids are, but although he does some great prospect lists, he does not do an "all state" list so to speak. There's got to be a better way.
Wow parents, who cares who is on this list. Who cares how they select who makes the list. Most of the kids could care less. If you and your son or daughter know the did the best they could, then all should be just fine. All I see on these threads are how Johnny and Sally were not on the list and Billy and Betty were not. Stop whinning and be proud of what your child or your friend did. Thats the only thing that matters!!
P.S If it's all about getting noticed, then you must be one of those parents I watched on 20/20.

A coach has two things to do concerning all state lists. 1) compile stats, which he has in front of him, because those forms are passed out and sent in following the all-district meeting. 2) Put the stats on the form and fax it in. (There is not contact following this fax with anyone making selections) Thats from my experience anyway.
Sad to say but anytime one is dealing with data or stats the old saying is "Trash-in Trash-out.
A player who is waiting on being included on one of these All State teams to be recruited will be waiting a long time. Those that are in the know, Know who should be on them. Every poster here knows of the abilities of the young men omitted and its a shame. Coaches can do steps 1 and 2 above and then the rest is up to those who look at them. Sadly some coaches get too busy to do the paper work due to other duties concerning their job. Coaching is apx.
1/7 th of their responsibility. Not defending or bashing anyone - just giving you my take on the subject.
