Coach.
Coming from a HS'er in me, it is not a major shocker to this kid what you told him, at least it shouldn't be. It is a major bummer, but its like if you dont turn in any homework all year and you expect to get an A, it won't be a shock when you get the F. I am saying this with the assumption that he just slid by on everything.

I have never been there, not ever been a coach. However, I do believe that a coach, any coach should always be very truthful with his players, to let them know EXACTLY where they stand as to why others are getting phone calls and others are not.
I do beleive this was not just an issue regarding not just making it in the weight room, as maybe stated in the original post.
The truth does hurt, very much, I have seen it. Actually many players don't need to be told the truth, they already know the answer to why they will not go on to play baseball in college and others will.
The way I see it, there is a difference between telling the truth, and "skirting around the issue".
I think this thread has run it's course.

Edit your post so you look better?

It's that insecurity of yours.

We all know you're a good coach. A good coach that insists that everyone know it. Even if he has to tell everyone himself.

Linear/rshard/teacherman etc..,

Sounds like you are starting to go the fava bean and chianti route.

Easy does it fella.
Please dont make us take the Hannibal Lechter mask out.
