So I guess I know who is the favorite in the ESCC. This conference should be pretty strong this year with no real weak teams.

I wouldn't discount JCA though - this senior group has been strong and were conference champs freshman and sophomore years and made it to the elite eight in last years summer tournament winning its pool (3-0) before losing to Stevenson in the semis.

Can't wait for the season to start.
My best guess would be:

1) Sandburg - Best feeder program in the State
of Illinois - Great talent this year.
2) Benet - Talent matches the Bonebreak/Iwanski coaching skills this year.
3) New Trier - Gut feel- Love underated talent. Second best feeder program in the State of Illinois.
4) Oak Park - Well coached year after year. He gets it! Talent never a issue.
5) Barrington - Could easily switch with Sandburg.

Dark Horse

Hinsdale - Based on talent, they should have been in the final four last year.
Karma works in strange ways.

Lincoln Way (Schools)- Great feeder program - If not this year........!

Lots of talk of Oak Forest - Sorry...I just don't see it. But, I have only been wrong like two million times in my life.
that cover is laughable. benet beat hinsdale 4-0 in the summer. actually benet, beat four hinsdale guys while the rest were away. with the players there it should have been a blow out. it was far from it. look for hinsdale to surprise everyone with the best pitcher in the state (kurash) along with three of the states biggest Hr threats - Morse, Noth, and prarie gravel jr. dinardo.

I'd,

First of all, I like the PBR cover. It's a nice shot of some very good ball players.

Secondly, I wouldn't put too much stock into what happened in summer ball.

Lastly, if I had to pick a preseason favorite, it might be Benet. It might be Sandburg or New Trier or Oak Park or LT. But Benet should be as good as anybody...they certainly won't be laughable.

who is HC kidding? Do they seriuosly think that they are the best team in the state? I'm not trying to bad mouth them but they have talent every year and never do anything. How could anyone think that LT is going to be worse than HC? When was the last time that was the case? Not since i've been at Lt and trust me when i tell you, it's not going to happen as long as i'm still there
I just dug up my copy of last years' PBR and checked out how the predictions panned out.

1. St. Rita......real good team didn't make it downstate though. Don't know about injuries, etc.

2. Lockport...won it all..good call

3. LT had good year, close to downstate..good call.

4. OPRF...made it downstate...good call

5. JCA.....things didn't go as well as they could have....should have been better?

6. Sandburg...good year...but not as good as most people thought....fair call

7. Carmel...good year not great, but not a bad pick coming off 3rd place previous year with players back

8. Minooka....good team good call

9. Mt Carmel...2nd place....good call

10. Naperville North....don't know about this one...maybe a good example that doing well in previous summer league doesn't always translate to the next spring.

Considering how fluid the talent in HS is I think the PBR did a good job in '05 with it's picks. I think the results demonstrate how tough it is to get downstate regardless of how good you are.....so easy to lsoe one game. Some teams had injuries that hurt and others had unknowns mature and make a difference. Let's see how it is in '06.

Speculating about which HS teams will do well in '06 is almost as bad as speculating which D1 programs will go farthest in '06. Wink
hi

Just something to talk about other than food (and Karma) during the interminable wait for the season to start.

(Note to Gotwood & JT...don't tell me the wait is inKARMAnable...this isn't the place).
Fungo...

Barrington is in a similar situation to what they were in last year. Some established seniors returning as well as few first year senior starters and a few Juniors and Sophmores who had to prove themselves. Last year everything worked out well (plus Eric Marshall turning into an excellent pitcher) and Junior pitcher Billy Chapman stepped up and did the job. The same kinds of things will have to happen in order for the Broncos to be really good this year, except I don't know that they need any sophmores this year. Right now I have them in the top three in the MSL West, with a shot at a third straight Overall MSL Title
