Can a coach give a money offer before a school has accepted a player? Our son is trying to get through admissions but his grades are not up to par. They have said they will review after his first semester and will admit him if his grades have shown improvement to their satisfaction. The coach is saying that now he can't make an offer until after that.

Coaches can't afford to give scholarships anymore if they think the player will not do well in the classroom. And they won't if someone thinks they will not pass admissions.

New NCAA guidelines have changed things.

Most coaches will go to the academic advisor for opinions before they make an offer.

Every coach public or private we talked to wanted to know grades, SAT's and talked to admissions prior to offers.

Nothing wrong in keeping school on your list but even if grades improve a lot can happen between now and then. Keep actively marketing ur son. I would also look for schools that I feel my Son can get into for sure.

If academics are weak don't rule out JC if that will give him the best shot to strengthen his academics and transfer after a year.
