Josh Keim 5"9/145 lbs. P/SS Rock Island, Illinois

I have seen him play a few times, he was the sophomore ace for Rock Island High School and pitched/played around ten games for varsity. He throws a 78-79 mph fastball and his offspeed (changeup/curveball) really kept the batters offbalanced. He has a great glove at shortstop and can hit well to all fields. Look for him to be a top thrower and infielder for this upcoming and good young Rock Island Rocks team.
A few from our conference (Big Northern East)

Ryan Burke - Hampshire - ERA under 2.00 last year
Austin Jarvis - Burlington Central - under 2.0 to second, 6hrs as a soph
Zack Romando - SS - Burlington Central - .350 as a soph, solid defensively
Chase Blazier - Harvard - I'm not sure of his numbers, but he shut us down twice this year, probably in the low 80s

There are a handful of others who stood out in our conference this year as sophomores.

Harrisburg continues to be a hotbed of talent. Thanks for the news from Southern Illinois! Hey, because I've hung up the cleats for a year or two, you don't have to be a stranger! If you're ever in my area, let me know and I'll buy you a diet coke!
Miles Quintal (RHP) O'Fallon Township
10-2 Soph Season
Had a good soph year, pithcing in a very competetive league. Great command of all 3 of his pitches, not a high velocity guy at this point but pitches at 80-82. His breaking pitch is outstanding and he is confident with his cu behind in the count. With some increased size and strength he could emerge as a d1 kid.
Blumenthal is very good. I have seen him this fall (in the summer Pildes played him sparingly). He has played every inning of every game this fall and has gotten to every ball you'd expect, and some you wouldn't expect. Excellent speed, he seems to always make the first move correctly off the bat.

He switch hits and has been moving up in the batting order. Just needs a little meat on the bones, but he is just growing in to his body.

Jacksons father was a former asst. at LZ with the current coach. A falling out happened years ago. Jeff spent two years at LZ without playing for them. Jeff tried out frosh year, made the frosh team, was moved up to soph before season, but father made him quit before season because he wasn't moved up to varsity as a frosh. At that time, the varsity catcher was a senior all conf and team captain. No one was going to unseat him. This year he transferred to Wauconda.

It was obvious that the problems between the adults were the cause, and had nothing to do with the player. The situation has plenty of blame to throw around to include everyone, parents, coaches, AD's. In the end, the kid paid the price, it's a shame.

PGStaff, do you know the reason why he did not play hs ball? Also, in addition to grad year on the PG Cross Checker Reports, actual birth dates should be listed.

RRF8,

The link above goes to a file on the normal PG site... www.perfectgame.org The player profiles there are free for anyone to view.

www.pgcrosschecker.com will have birth dates and much more information. While pgcrosschecker has lots of material to view at no charge, it is a subscription based scouting site.

I really don't know everything involved as to why he didn't play HS baseball. We have been following him for several years. At one point I know there was an injury involved. He has a lot of talent.

I would not recommend others to take the same path. But, in his case it looks like things might work out very well. Arizona State doesn't make many recruiting mistakes.
