Top Sophomores and Freshman

Colton Cain might be better than either.

I don't remember seeing a lot of other Sophs or Freshman this year.

I've had the pleasure of playing with him and I can attest... he's amazing. Talk about a kid with a ton of talent and potential at the same time. His pitching is great, and yet raw. He's got lots of room to improve, it's scary.

Kaleb Merk at Keller is the real deal.

Brandon Loy @ Rowlett is by far one of the top 08 players in the area, if not the state, if not the country. He is incredible! Comes from some pretty good genes too, I might add!

A DBAT kid. Many hard fought games against him. His dad is great. Does he start for DBAT 16U? With Emmens, Young, Kiser, etc? It seems like he's always been solid, but he's always been with a whole group of talent at his position. Of course, he could have changed positions. He was playing middle infield for Rowlett right?

He plays SS for them. Led their team in hitting this year with a .429 avg. Emens is a great talent for sure!

My son gave up 38 hits this spring here at Rockwall. 32 singles, 5 doubles and a triple.

Loy had one of the doubles and the triple in 3 at bats. This kid is GOOD!!

Teddy Nowell and Jt Files are two pretty good sophomores hitting in the middle of the line-up for one of the top 4-A teams in the area!!(Poteet)

I know I am probably biased but I would say Todd Hensley is on that list (yes, he is my little brother). He was all the difference friday night in our playoff game he drove in the game tying run in the 5th and changed the whole momentum of the game which was a Seguin victory. A 6'1" freshman the sky is the limit if he works at it.

The Waxahachie coach was under the impression he was our ace after seeing him early in the year.

Oh and Colton Cain is the real deal as is another kid named Drew out of Waxahachie. Both freshman played solid against us.

cb-jr -- cool that you're proud of your brother....it sounds like he is an impact player. I'm glad you added him to the list here.

Matt Shortall, a freshman catcher that's playing with the mustangs. He didn't get adecuate time this year at catcher, due to having a senior at the position. A great arm and room to improve.

Naw, met him and his old man recently. Dad seems to be a great guy. Good thing the youngster got his mom's looks tho......

This goes back to a thread from last year. I still have to say that, at Rowlett anyway, Brandon Loy is probably the best sophmore in 11-5A. But at Rowlett, Coach Carmon has a real problem...he has too much talent in his sophmore class. There are kids on the JV team that would have started on many of the areas varsity teams and some had to split time at the JV level. My nephew is one of these kids who is now contimplating his baseball future. But that's another thread.
Just a few of the standouts at Rowlett, besides Loy, are Reed Graham, Andrew Smith, and Chase Castilla. I have a feeling you will start seeing their names alot in Rowlett's box scores next year.

Coppell has 3 freshmen playing a lot of varsity ball. Kettler at SS. Elkins at 2B and 3B. Walsh at catcher. There is a several good kids on the freshman and JV teams.

I think that is the case at alot of schools. At Coppell we do have one freshman starting, Chad Kettler - Dtigers 15 and Johnny Walsh ( Dtigers 15) backing up a D1 signee, two more got called up for the playoffs, Austin Elkins ( Marshals 15) and Danny Malone (Drillers 15)(my kid). But like DBat 18 said, let's see who shows up on the DMN stats page next year.

Flower Mound has several boys like that as well, we played with Chase Durham (Marshals 15) last year and I hear Ty Wheeler (Marshals 15 traded to Dtigers 15) is a stud. I hope someone from there can add some detail.

I think if you'll re-read the post it was lamenting on how Carmon's problem was being over run with talent. Nothing was meant he has a problem per-say. I might be wrong but try again.

Apparently from what I hear, the Freshman parents bantering that their freshmen players will be starting varsity next year in Rowlett. With respect to the Sophomores and Juniors in this school, that should be something to see.

Is that school that deep in talent? Is it year after year? Are they a baseball school? What's in the water East of Dallas?

Tap the brakes there Tiger. The Freshman class may be good, however they are NOT ready for Varsity competition. I would venture to say that none of this year's freshmen will be on the Rowlett Varsity next season. With 4 Juniors and 1 Sophomore starting this year that leaves 4 spots open depending on Carmon's choices next season. I think the Sophomore class will have something to say about that not to mention the 3-4 bench Juniors this season.

The pipeline appears to be good, but jumping the system for a Varsity full of Sophomores with Rowlett's history seem a bit premature.

JAFO - I totally agree - put on the brakes with the regard to the freshman group. We have a few players who might have something to say about that They did well with their schedule but are not nearly ready for Varsity......

Matt Thompson at Arlington Grace Prep and a kid named Braddock, who's catching for Cleburne.

Looked Ok, coach liked most of what he saw. I will have to pay more attention to the kids names on our team and the others as well going forward.

I think it was the Dallas Panthers.

The pitching looked good and a couple of the bats stuck the well well.

My kid should be the 1 or 2 and he didn't pitch, so Nick has put together a nice group of arms. It will take a year to see how they jell. Between BBI and tournaments it will be trial by fire, I hope of a baptism than a trial.

This weekends tournament should tell us more.

What is your affiliation to Drillers?
