I have watched a lot of JUCO baseball and RHPers that throw mid 80's and "can pitch" are everywhere. Having said that, if your son is a RHPer that throws mid 80's and "can pitch", as a parent you should have him consider a JUCO because it is a target rich environment for the kind of pitcher he is. If you are interested in additional info regarding the JUCO experience, feel free to PM me.
That is all we are looking at at this point.
Sorry guys, I really wasn't trying to make this about my son. Just trying to use him as a representation for some other pitchers out there that are having the same struggles we are.
If a kid want's to play after HS, The JUCO route is a great option. Some kids will go to the D1 school and not get to play. While other's go the JUCO route and play for 1 year then end up transferring to the D1 school.

Not sure how he has done in his other outings, but one of the Sophomores at Plano West (Blum) was clocked in the 90's against McKinney recently when stricking out Matt Lipka. Also got Lipka tossed from the game for throwing his bat afterwards. He has been consistently in the high 80's for the past year and seems to be having an awesome year.
Not sure what Lipka has to do with Blum, but since you called him out, he was 1 for 3 with a run scored in the game. If you did that every game......I think that would be alright.
I would like to blame the ejection on the umpire!
My son got a warning from the umpire that day. Unfortunatley Matt was up to bat after my son...
We all know that the McKinney boys are angels. Just ask Beast.

Long time lurker here, but this is childish and I had to respond~!
Madmacks, were you at the game? or is this hearsay? Make sure your facts are straight before you make such statements and place a players name on a message board.
PD-from all of your previous posts, you seem to have a problem with the MHS boys? Why is it that you make sure that boys names are not in posts that have derogatory statements, but this time it was allowed?
Play fair!

It didn't have anything to do with a bat. It was what he said, and said loudly. It's one thing to think them. Another to utter them under your breath. But like that? Why is it that they have to do that? Maybe I'm just old fashioned in my old age.
Back to throwing 90: if you can pitch, you can pitch.

Calm down people,
madmacks was simply commenting that Blum was throwing in the 90's to Lipka. It does not diminish Lipka's skill -- which we all recognize. He is an excellent player -- one of McKinney's best (the city, not just the school). Striking out to a 90's fast ball doesn't reflect a weakness. You're being too defensive. And yes, I recognize that PSIII K'd against the fore-mentioned player in a late game pinch-hit situation on Saturday.
M&M -- you must be a selective lurker. I have no problem with the MHS boys -- rather, I've supported them with compliments on several occasions.

Why can't we all just get along?
Not including North, of course.

M&M,
Two different things:
Case #1: Tychco is a bad player and couldn't play for another team in DFW.
That is an opinion and derogatory towards a player...should be moderated out.
Case #2: Tychco struck out against M&M, and was ejected.
Not an opinion, but a fact.
Having said that, the less said about players the better. It seems either there is unneeded criticism or over-the-top promotion and very little in between.

I don't even have a dog in this fight...I'm not from the McKinney area. Learned a lot from this website, but have observed(not selectively ) some problems with them. Maybe it is your competitive side showing?
My only competition is with tychco for smart-arse comment of the week -- he generally wins, much to my chagrin.
Tychco,
Not to remove you from hero status, the problem with your analogy: It is about Blum's pitching...right? He had 9K's that day, as a matter of fact, my son had 3. So why mention Lipka's 1? It just sounds like there is an ax to grind or something. JMO

The topic is being clocked at 90+. The way I read madmacks post was, "Blum hit 90 during his battle with *****". I could be wrong in assuming his intent -- obviously he did not have to mention anything that occurred after the at-bat. I suppose I assume less ax grinding than actually exists here.

Could be and I don't know all these players that well to know if there is some underlying meaning. Perhaps my second statement says it best...the less said negatively about a player, the better.
Well we all know what happens when you ASSuMe...
To PD, MADMACKS & OUTSIDER,
I never post on this site but I do read it often - I feel I must respond to the last posts mentioning my son - you see - first, I don't hide behind some fictitious name - .
To PD : Don't try and make excuses for someone's post - it is what it is-
To Outsider : You are right - it was what Matt said that got him ejected - he did not throw his bat. Matt was reprimanded by me for that meltdown and hopefully will not do that again - but I will say that he is only 15 yrs. old and made a mistake in judgment - what 15 yr. old doesn't ??
To Mad Macks : The topic was about pitchers throwing in the 90s - nothing to do about any people that may have faced these pitchers. YOUR COMMENTS ARE WAY OUT OF LINE and furthermore, are destructive to a kid's character ( not that you have any based on your post ). As parents, my wife and I strive to teach our son to be respectful and we think he is a very nice young boy but he isn't perfect. Andrew Blum is a very talented pitcher and his parents are personal friends of ours - Matt has played ball against Andrew for 5 years now. I will let Matthew's on field performance's and abilities speak for themselves and I would appreciate it if you would refrain from using my son's name again. He does not deserve it. Thank you. Tim Lipka

I look forward to a future of perfect posts from the frequent lurkers.
Lipka pm me if you want to know the id of Madmacks.
Mr. Lipka,
It is a pleasure watching your son and all of the McKinney Lions play the game of baseball. Matt is a great player and will only get better.
I agree 100% with you regarding Madmacks comments. His post could have been writen without metioning a name. However, I viewed his post as a compliment to Matt. Since Matt is an extraordinary player, reigning offensive MVP of 9-4A. Matt's name got mentioned to lend credibility to Andrew's accomplishments. Again, don't agree with mentioning players names in a negative tone!
Two years from now, 2010, you and Mr. Blum will beable to visit, at a game, about where your son's are going to play college ball. Both players are very special and have bright futures!!!

Although madmacks deserves to be drawn and ...
I changed my mind about being negative in my response. I will just say that the Lipka's are very close personal friends and I know they have dealt with the issue appropriately. Matt is a outstanding player, a wonder summer teammate and a great kid.
I just do not understand why anyone would mention a player by name in such a negative manner.

Oh, another thread gone sour.
Seriously folks? Isn't the important issue whether or not a kid can hit 90mph?
Who cares about all the character issues with the players names mentioned.
Who cares if they are great kids, bad kids, whatever.
That all doesn't matter.
What's important is who the heck throws 90 mph out there?
That's what the scouts really want to know.

KG - do you need to pour any milk into that pot so you can stir it a little better?

Maybe the next team I coach will be.........
DBAT's Sour Patch Kids
Lipkadad,
I was just trying to set the record straight. It is what it is.
Sounds as if you took care of it. I understand the 15 year old mentality, and they have to learn. Sometimes when you watch these kids, it's hard to remember that they are 14, 15, or 16. Let your playing do the talking.
I have watched your son for several years, and he is a good one to watch perform. I really like it when he hits passing gear when he hits one in the gap.

I bet a lot of our boys could be clocked at 90 on any given night on the highway.
WOW...I have been out of pocket and I don't read this board every day so I was shocked to come back and see what has happened since my last post (which I certainly removed as soon as I saw the aftershock). First and foremost, Tim, please accept my utmost sincere apology for a post that was taken completely out of context and looked at as something negative against your son. I do not hide behind "fake" names..Madmacks is the name of my boat and mack happens to be my middle name, etc. My name is Jeff Baker and there is no need to PM "longhorn" for any ID. I just stood right beside you after the East game as we all spoke about this summer travels and East Cobb, etc. My son is also the same age as Matt and has played against him for the past 5 years as well. I have no "ax to grind" in any way either. If I may take one minute and attempt to re-state what I was trying to tell folks out there:
I made mention to Matt's strikeout simply because he is one of the best area high school players...period, regardless of age. For Blum to be able to reach down deep and pull off 90+ fastballs against a hitter like that is a compliment to both. Also, I was trying to make a note that he was not previously hitting those speeds but he seemed to bring out the best against the best. No, I was not there at all, but since you are friends with Steve (as I know you are), then you know where my information came from and that it was in no way intended to be harmful as they are awesome parents as well. I just think it was a major accomplishment for Blum to strike out such a great hitter while also throwing the hardest he has ever thrown. Matt is an awesome athlete (not just at baseball either) and I hope you will understand that I am very sorry if my remarks came over as harmful in any way regarding his character...he is a class act. You may PM me if there are any issues you feel are unresolved or if I can help put this thing to bed.

consistently in the 90's
I was chatting with a pro scout last Tuesday night at our game and he told me that Matthew Purke, who is an 09 LHP @ Spring Klein HS, was throwing 97mph in the 7th inning of a game he attended a couple of weeks ago!

The pitchers above threw in the 90's...so does, Walker Kelly, Kaleb Merck, Curtis Peterson, Matt Thompson, Trey Haley, Jordan Swaggerty, Cosart (east texas), Zach Lee, Ben Grisz, Vance Woodruff. Yes, a little bit of a stretch(big stretch) comparing high school kids to Hall of Famers. However, like Mr. Gutherie, all these kids, 90 or whatever, will have to prove at the next level.
Just to further my point, the kids I questioned above, may be touching 90, however they are consistently in the 86-87 range. 90 is an exception, not the rule. Everybody I listed is 88-91 or higher. Every pitch may not be 90 but they hit 90 as often as they don't. By the way, no offense intended, Walker Kelly, Vance Woodruff, Cosart, etc. have lost one or more games this year. Being able to pitch and being able to throw hard are two different subjects!
Potential 90 guys:
Farrar
Cain
Lackie
Blum
Rollins
Emens
Johnansen
Feckley
Kettler
Lipka
Balew
These players have a chance. Either conditioning, focus, mechanics or position player, is keeping them from a 90+ guy. I am sure I have missed one or two and I appologize for that. Please feel free to add names.
Does anyone remember this kid's college commitment???
