Remember you heard it here first. FAU will be a contender for a World Series birth. The offense is great at UF but they will have to find some pitching. I'm not counting UM out because if you want any credibility at all you have to say, "it's Miami, you can't count them out." Beyond that, I just don't see it happening down there--not this year. Florida State--no comment. Feel free to cut me to pieces. My skin is pretty thick after predicting the Steelers would romp through the playoffs and make it to the Super Bowl. That got a lot of laughs, but no one is laughing now. In fact, some are crying as they reach into there pockets. Just having some fun.
At this moment FAU, man by man has a much better team that Miami and FSU, IMO. the best OF in the state, Mc Bryde, Mascia, Duarte, Mckenna, Shapland and Albano, nothing will drop there my friend, great pitching staff and offense, with a mature team, second to none coaching and a superb group of freshmen. applaude
Based on the choices Soxnole has given, I am going to go with the ACC choice, out of respect for the ACC school. But hopefully, since I know a lot of the boys, FAU runs high.
FAU is loaded, and in the end coaching will be a factor. UF, FSU, UM and have the experience in Omaha to get to the championship game. And UM has done it with young team in the past. I don't think Stetson should be included in the there. JMO.

I doubt very much the starting pitching rotation at FSU will be better than UNC, but not sure how deep their bullpen is on either team. Success is not always guaranteed with just three arms. Baylor is the perfect example last year, any arm could come out to throw at anytime, a very deep pitching staff.
FAU got a great write-up in SEBaseball.com, who projected them as a #2 seed in the NCAA Tourney.

Florida Atlantic has two legit stars and several other solid-to-very good players. Mickey Storey is a legitimate ace who should make FAU the favorite practically every Friday night. Mike McBryde is a freakishly fast outfielder who is just learning how to use his speed. As that comes along, he will be nearly impossible to keep off base and to keep in place once he gets there. As if that wasn't enough, McBryde is also the team's closer. Chris Salberg also returns to give FAU a solid second starter. After those two it gets a little dicey. For this club to win a Regional, they will need some other arms to emerge. I like them as a solid Regional team ? probably a #2 seed in Gainesville or Tallahassee. That would be a nice chance from their usual spot in Coral Gables.

FAU is one of my favorite teams, but how do they have a superb group of freshman? William Block is awesome. Jon Koenigsfeld is good. Alex Pepe is good. Besides that there isn't much, at least in terms of being an impact player right now.

In addition of the players you have mentioned they have a CF who hit 500 in the fall, fast with a canon for an arm, 6.1' 190lb, try to run on him, gold glove, no errors in three yrs of H.S. great attitude, he is not from Boca, and Arata in the IF who is also a really good player. Any one of those freshmen can come in at any time and be an impact player, remember they played for elite teams, and good H.S.programs, best 5A in the state in 2005, Nova and Gaither, not the typical freshmen. FAU doesn't say much about it's players, not like FSU or UF. Do your home work. Have a nice day.

FIU,
Nice way to comeback after last weekend against Miami.

Softhands,
I disagree with you saying that young players can step in at any time and be impact players. I don't care how good or TALENTED a player is, there is an adjustment period. College baseball is a whole different animal..trust me.

TPM,

I think you must be right (regarding an adjustment period for freshmen). I noticed Tennessee started a freshman pitcher in their second game. He was a highly touted third round draft pick but decided to go the college route instead. I think he gave up 5 or 6 runs in 2 innings before they pulled him.

I was thinking about his mom.

Having a son that is a college freshman pitcher, I am considering taking up smoking... maybe carrying a flask to games....

Now my son most likely will not hit the mound that quickly. But when he does....any suggestions from Moms out there?

Aces,
There is an adjutment period for every player, being a pitcher's mom, I pay more attention to pitchers. And doesn't matter how good you are, trust me, been there and seen it. Eek

Just like your HS freshman goes through an adjustment to varsity, same with college baseball.
No amount of elite team or HS experience prepares you for your first pitch, your first at bat in a real game. Same way for parents, as Dad04 says, take deep breaths. Smile It doesn't last long, thankfully.
It was a tough weekend with double headers, and first series. Even the "southern" teams struggle.
