Tebow is/was a great collegiate player and deserves the attention he has received. I think he's a great role model. He should do well whatever he decides to do, that includes NFL, law, politics...

Not a big Alabama homer, I'm actually a transplant here from Miami, but the religion of college football is year-round in this part of the country. As a semi-neutral observer, I don't think Texas has a chance. I called the Florida beat-down in the Men Only forum, and I'll call the national championship here.

I don't understand the negative comments made about Tim Tebow. Not specifically here, but elsewhere in general. The young man cried after he didn't win a SEC championship. He's a senior. He's a leader. I've seen many a young man experience that emotion and it seems perfectly normal to me. I'm like Wayne and whatever comes the guy's way in the future, I wish him tremendous success.

I'm wishin' 'bama tremendous success too in the national championship!!

I am not sure why anyone would get down on any non professional player.
My prediction Tebow will go pro, if drafted in a good spot, return to FL to coach,not forever, reciece his law degree while doing so and I agree that he is one of the greatest collegiate football players of our time, regardless of whatever statement he made while there.

FWIW, keep your eyes on Tiger QB Kyle Parker, not too many redshirt freshman (and he is young) make it to their conference championships, also plays baseball for the Tigers. Great arm.

He still has to prove himself over a period of time---we have seen a lot of young QBs come on hot and fast and then fade just as rapidly.

What does it matter if a player doesn't live up to the next level? Why not acknowledge what he has achieved at the current one?

Let me ask a question, if our sons were successful at the college level in baseball, not making it to the next level means they failed?

Is that how we measure a person's success in life, by what level they reach?

As far as I am concerned, most college football players just like college baseball players will not be successful at the next level. I guess they are all a bunch of failures.

Vince Young is now 23-12 as an NFL starter. Last night on Sportscenter they put up this stat: of all QB's drafted since 2000, with a minimum of 20 starts, VY is 4th in winning percentage:

Tom Brady
Ben Rothleisberger
Phillip Rivers
Vince Young

As for his college record, he was 30-2 as a starter at Texas. Dude just wins.

Career QB rating - 71.9
Career TD's - 26
Career Int's - 34

Could it be the Titans won in spite of Young before this year? And this year he has been efficient? Has he put more than five good games together in his career? In the past five games he's thrown 4 TD's and 2 INT's. Except for the last game he's not throwing the ball much. He has one of the best running backs in pro football lined up behind him with the defense keying on him. I'd say the team has won five games with Young being efficient.

Update: Against a strong team today and playing from behind Young had a QB efficiency of 77.8 which is mediocre. Chris Johnson had another big game with 113 yards.

The previous five teams Young was efficient against were 3-3, 3-4, 3-4, 5-4, and 7-3 but missing their All-Pro QB. In those same five games Chris Johnson ran for 657 yards and seven touchdowns. Johnson is carrying the offense and Young along for the ride. The biggest change on the Titans has been playing better defense.

To put Young in the same sentence with Rothleisberger and Brady is a HUUUUUUUUGE JOKE. To put him in the same sentence as Rivers is extremely funny. If winning is important let's see a Young led team win a Super Bowl before we put him in the same sentence as Trent Dilfer.

I too am sick of the publicity Tebow has gotten over the past three years. I root against him and his team, but I was impressed with his on field interview immediately after the game. He congratulated Alabama and gave them all the credit they deserved.

It seems to me that Urban Myers is building his teams the same way Miami did in the 80' & 90's. With less than model citizens. Wasn't that lineman the second player suspended this year for inappropriate behavior?

I just don't view Tebow with any cynical take. In my view the eyeblack with the scripture is probably inspirational to him as a player and I would think perhaps he's trying to motivate and inspire some of his teammates. I think he felt his role as a senior and the touted player meant he had a responsibilty to set examples.... for him that includes sharing his faith. Many players write things inside their caps, etc... as a way to remind themselves of a particular message. I see that in the same light. However, perhaps I'm naive.... wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last I'm sure. Time will give us the answer on Mr. Tebow.

TR, I typically and usually agree with most things you post on here. You have a great mind on matters related to baseball. But on this statement of yours above, what the heck were you thinking?! I dont hate Tebow. I just get tired of turning on a game hoping to watch a game and having to listen to the same stories over and over again. Great he is a missionary. Great he is a fine young man. Great he talks to school kids. Great he has a new scripture on his face tonight. Great he gave a speech and they bronzed it and put it on the locker room wall. Great he is a tremendous leader. How many times do we have to told this in the first quarter of the game?

Every single game UF plays its the same old stories over and over again. The same old scripted Tim Tebow celebration. I just want to watch the game and hear about all the players and hear them talk football. But the media feels the need to create heroes for us. I dont need to feel good about Tim Tebow to enjoy a college football game. I really dont need to hear about his missionary service. I think its great. But what does that have to do with the football game I am trying to watch? Enough please.

I don't think that's his fault all the talk about what he does, though some think it's just PR stuff, how is anyone to know that and how can anyone not knowing him make that statement.
What I would like to know, is, how is writing scriptures on eye black any different than wearing a symbol around one's neck that shows their faith?

As far as the folks and the look on their faces, have you ever watched bb and they show the folks whose sons just got their first call up. I remember a Marlin game, they kept panning the father's reaction to a pitchers first call up, the kid was getting lit up, the dad had such a look on his face, you know he was hurting for his son, I doubt he was subtracting the dollars his son was going to lose.
I agree some of the stuff on Tebow has been over done but the type of remarks made here about the look on his parents face (and the reason stated) has no place here on the HSBBW. I don't care who said it, it's not appropriate. JMO.

Any QB that starts for one of the top programs in the country for 4 years will get over exposed. The same is true for McCoy at Texas. Personally, I never get tired of hearing even the same good stories about good kids like Tebow and McCoy. Did I cheer against McCoy last night against my Husker, yeah...a little. But these two kids are high quality kids that will do just as well with some adversity thrown their way. Maybe they are NFL QBs, probably not. IMO, these are two quality individuals that are having a positive impact on their teammates, fans and society. Hard to knock that.

A lot of good threads are started here with good and fun intentions. Unfortunately after a while they seem to run their course and take a turn for the worse.

I think THIS thread is a prime example of that.

It is incomprehendable to me that anyoe would have ill feelings toward a kid like Tebow. Tales of the good deeds of a fine young man never get old to me.If honoring God with his eye black is some sort of gimmick...what is it? Bringing attention to God's glory and goodness? What a horrible thing that is. He spends his off season taking care of 3rd world children instead of robbing convenience stores and clubbing. Oh No! It may get old to some, but it continues to be encouraging to me. There is always room in our world for goodness.

I just don't understand what more this young man could have done in his 4 years at Fla. Yet, the naysayers seem to get off, almost hoping and praying that his life will spiral downward just so they can say, "I told you so". How pathetic. Maybe they're also part of the "Bryce Harper" won't make it crowd.
