Ben,I'm sorry this has happened. It is unthinkable that some poster with an agenda would stoop this low. Of course, you do have some recourse to take. The email that they sent does have an IP address and so, you can request the provider supply the name of a person if they have slandered you. It will require a lawyer and court order. I have a lawyer on retainer just for the purposes of moderating this site and believe me, with the changes in law and the unfortunate incident in Missouri, it can be dicey but cases can be made especially when that internet harrassment influences your job. In fact, there are good lawyers around that specialize in just this type of case. Please supply me with information and I'll also see what I can do. We certainly don't want members such as that on this site.

BTW, this was also done to me. My bosses understood.

There is something seriously wrong with things if good people like Ben are run off by some faceless thug.

It is baseball people like Ben who make this site what it is, an incredible resource to those of us who are about to enter the scary waters of college recruiting.

The goon who is causing this trouble is doing nothing to help any of the high school baseball players in this state. He is only taking valuable people and information away from people who truly need it.

Justice will prevail if you can stay the course and help find out who/whom is behind this garbage . You will get more satisfaction at that point than by quitting now .

Mr. Nobody, while I agree, you have to be in this position to understand. It almost cost me my marriage. I believe it did cost me a promotion. The instant I can get any of my administration to say so, I'm going to clean up because I'm going to sue the person who did this to me. I a court of law, you have to be able to prove either slander or harm. Ben, you do what is right for you. You certainly have been a very positive influence on this site.

This is crazy..... Ben Diggle is one of the nicest guys who respects and lives for the game.

Ben hang in there. Your a big reason players south of the Chicago area get any recognition at all.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Ben a couple of times when my teams have been in his coverage area. He is a great guy who provides quality coverage for high school sports.

It's pretty sad when a person makes unfair remarks without at least having the decency to attach their name to it.

What can we do to intervene? Can we write letters to Ben's boss? Shouldn't dozens of letters from sane people counteract one wacko?

Ben is absolutely right when he says "you're messing with a man's life". Let's all pull together and get this cleaned up. Good people stick together and Ben needs our support.

It is one thing to spout off on the maessage board. Toenter "real life" with this stuff in unconsionable. I probably spelle dthe last word wrong, but when I write on behalf of Ben I'll use spellcheck.

Ben I would reiterate what Mr Nobody said. Why quit and let the emailer win.

I just heard back from Ben. It's his opinion that right now, we might do more harm than good. So we'll have to let it take its course.

It doesn't sound good on his end.

Having been in Ben's position, I can tell you that he probably doesn't want anyone to contact his boss. You see, right now, his bosses are wondering what is up. They are not "in the know" about the baseball climate of Illinois. While there might be tons of support, that isn't the issue. The issue is that Ben doesn't want is boss's attention constantly brought back to this issue. The attention will simply be too much and Ben will pay for it. At least that is what happened in my position. If Ben wants help, he can pm some of us and ask. Otherwise, and again speaking from experience, let's let this lay for a while.

I have spoken to Ben. Understandably he's pretty upset. I just wanted to hear from others also who could provide some background.

just had to jump in on this. we all feel for Ben, and this is a wakeup call to all who read or visit here, you never know who your talking to on these, you could be talking to an adult or could happen to be a kid. some of these fights are ending up outside of the friendle confines here. CoachB am a long time fan, just hope you are careful with offering up the identies of ip addressea and so forth, could be a kids laptop and the parents arent even aware. releasing info on a kid may get you in a situation like Ben/ its probably better to be safe than sorry. and cyber stalk and harrassing of anyone is bad particularly of kids, lets not lose sight of that. hope the best for ben

I disagree. I worked in the IT field for 15 years and everyone should know that your computer has an IP address. If someone wants to find out who you are, they will find you. What Coach said was only stating the obvious. It isn't a secret about the IP address. Also, whether it is a kid or not I believe his or her parents are responsible for them and will pay the price if found liable for slander or defamation of character. I've only been reading this web site for about a year and love about 99% of what I read. Unfortunately there is always going to be that 1% that has no respect for anyone.

holister3, thanks for being a fan. However, you're in a very excusive group! I think there is one other member. For all to know, along with my responsibilities as a moderator come certain responsibilities. We do not share names with anyone who is not active as a moderator on this site. Believe me, Ben has many friends throughout this state and I'd suspect this is one of those "It’s a Wonderful Life" moments since so many have pmed me wanting to know what I know. Rather, I have suggested to Ben the route I took and explained my experience with him. It does involve hiring a lawyer. I also will say that besides an IP Address, there is so much more information contained in an email address. For example, if I work for a company that makes a product or provides a service and that is contained on my email, I can do simple searches and eventually find that company. Now, I can find who works for that company. Some people also use their names as a part of email. Of course that is easy to track down. That is what I laid out for Ben. Again, I don't think it necessary to use my abilities as a moderator here to do any of that. What the IP address does do is enable a person to verify their other research. A person's livelihood is at stake. This isn't something to "let kids be kids" if it is kids OR to take sitting back. I hope this clears everything up with regards to my actions.

This is not some kid pulling a prank!

It is unlikely he will ever see any of his antics --such as this one --all the way thru because if he did he would have to reveal his true identity .

I am no internet experst by any means, but I cant wait for baseball to start all this talk of dangerous persons internet tracking is sad. This is a high school baseball site not law and order. what the heck happened? It should be for kids about kids not adults fighting.
