RZ1,
Don't seem to remember all of these "group hugs" during some of the earlier days. Proof that a new "generation" has moved into the hsbaseballweb? Perhaps this could explain some of this thread?
Ya'll are all still good'uns..cuz ya care!
OPP, Good to see you checking in. Stick around!
Hey luke! What it is?
Still here .... after all these years. You still raising armadillos?
And Baseball Players?
Still have(well, actually his wife has him now) the baseball player(just about to enter arbitration) armadillos were eradicated all those years ago and now I have a horse-addiction. I spend my free time trail riding and wilderness camping,..... did not even attend a baseball game in the past year. Life just happened... I went along with the flow.
You still fishing as much as you can? I have surmized that Josh is now back in college?
I LOVE this place and what it represents, not only in my past but for the future of so many others. Glad to touch base with you again..if you "speak" with Bob, tell him that he still has tickets whenever and wherever he wants.

This is getting real weird. We're adults and should be able to work things out and lead by example to our kids and other young players who pass through hear. It's on the edge of a real bad reality show. Lets call the show "Get Over It". I'll be the host and do my best Monte Hall to make it work.
I'm not a hugger but at this point I will do almost anything. However the thong and oil are official out.
Rz1, and just when I was going to ask TPM to bring the oil!
I don't know if anyone meant me when they said someone should close this thread, but I am laughing too hard. And frankly, I don't think I can sleep at night if I don't find out how that group hug thing works out.

I had actually closed the thread but OPP "squeezed in" before it became effective so I opened it back up.

Fungo,,
So... I just come back and am already contributing to hijacking. At least that is better than taking a pot-shot a a feeble old timer like TRHit!
Ya, got my permission to close it at anytime.

I find it ironic that a topic titled “why the drop?” (in the number of registered members on the site) would have the following results.

Good points PGStaff about the increased activity. The original negativity has been outweighed by the positives. OPP, you have my permission to hijack this thread or any thread at any time. I think you've "earned" that right.
OPP,
Yes, Josh is back in school finishing up his degree (thanks MLB) and he's helping coach the local HS team in Alabama. He proposed earlier this week ---- marriage set for late next year.

I just "h word" when I'm late to a party and all the good stuff happened already! Bummer!
I don't like when threads are closed.....I kind-of think that controversial topics are like our behavior in society----most people are respectful while just one or two are not....and they are the ones causing all of the trouble. I try to ignore it, complain a little, and then feel sorry for their families or co-workers....The thread will die a natural death on its own, when the time comes....But otherwise...hey, how many threads are closed, only to re-open with another title?
In my opinion, if there is a drop, it could be because it's the natural ebb and flow of life.....I've haven't been on or as active as I have been in the past---busy with holiday preparations, busy with the kids (even the biggest one ) --they need the computerto post for stuff--we only have one (how deprived we are... *gasp*), busy trying to work, busy trying to cope with life in general.....just to name a few reasons....
But, hey......of the 12,000 +/- registered posters, how many people do they REALLY represent????? How many of us have multiple screen names? I knew of one former poster who had 43 different names that he actively posted under! It was a little freaky and unsettling to read the conversations "the many faces of" posted with himself! Yikes!!!
I love this website, count on many of you as my friends, and would be lost without you! Don't ever change, I love you just the way you are!

I don't like when threads are closed either. In my four years here, very few threads have actually been closed. A tiny, tiny percentage of threads are ever moderated even though there are probably good arguments that more of them ought to be.
What are some legitimate reasons for closing threads and/or moderating them?
The truth is words can harm. The government and the Supreme Court have determined that there is no absolute right to say what you want. Oliver Wendall Holmes' famous example "Surely, we can all agree that there is no right to shout fire in a crowded theatre" Obviously, we are not talking about that type of speech here on the hsbbweb.
Some examples of things I will not tolerate (me being an evil moderator)....
1) Posting negative/derogatory information about young ball players. Even here there is a fine line. Sometimes the negative information is public knowledge (in the newspapers) and thus there are valid reasons for discussion. These are the exception however.
2) Spamming/advertising - this is called reaping where you have not sown. Many of us contribute either through time and/or donation to the free operation of this site. That does not give someone the right to freely conduct their business here at the expense of others. Again, there are some borderline cases that are sometimes dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
3) Rudeness/borishness/in-your-faceness/etc - this is where some of the disagreements about moderators come in. Some people call it bluntness and others call it bad manners. The truth is that when someone is rude or questioning of motive, that behavior also acts as a "moderation" of a thread. That is the law of the jungle. Moderation by intimidation if you will. It prevents the free-flow of useful information including legitimate disagreement.
It seems pretty easy to tell when someone has crossed the line. The group will often take the offender to task as demonstrated in this thread. It is not asking people too much to be civil. Disagree until the cows come home - just do it in a civil manner. No one ever said we all have to agree. Would love to hear what Bob Howdeshell's thoughts are on this.

So I guess we won't see any more of this type of behavior towards one another?

From a male point of view (not all, but most), much better to be Slip Slidin' AWAY in this case.
Can I please DJ the group hug? I have all of Enya's CD's, and would thoughtfully ponder other requests.

Can you operate this Krak? You may want to add a 55 gal. drum of degreaser to the tank before you fire it up!

I can do that as long as I'm accepted into the mainstream as the Group Hug DJ. I had a DJ gig with some of the Trolls on the site and, as there were no moderators on hand, it got a little out of hand:

I don't like it when threads are closed either. I think we should all be able to say what's on our mind in a manner WE feel comfortable with ---- however MY DESIRES are not in control of my "close" button. I have to think of the new parent or the young ball player that just joined and is getting ready to ask what might be the most important question in his life --- his or her first question on the HSBBW. There are many that can take anything that is put on the table (me included) ---- but there are many that can't. I would wager that more members leave the HSBBW because threads were left to run their ugly "gutter hugging" course than those that have left because a thread was closed.
