The Stanford baseball team learned late yesterday that their "mother away from home," Kathy Wolff (Stanford baseball's administrative guru) passed unexpectedly in her sleep Tuesday night.
Stanford mourns the loss of Kathy Wolff
If you've ever attended a camp, been recruited by Stanford, called the baseball office or emailed/mailed with the baseball office, you met Kathy. Season ticket holders, longtime fans, alums, parents, players, coaches...she touched us all. She was a wonderful person who was inseparable from Stanford baseball for around 20 years.
Every kid who has played there during her time with the team owes a debt of gratitude to Kathy. She was the glue. The kind "mother away from home" when things were tough. And she was there with her scorebook in hand, just above the dugout cheering louder than anyone when things were good. She was SO looking forward to a return trip to Omaha this year. She was very truly a "face" of Stanford baseball.
I never, ever heard anything but genuine love for this lady. Former, current and future players will deeply miss her presence. The coaches are undoubtedly hurting very badly right now...emotionally. So is our family and other parents and players throughout the program.
She was, truly the very best that college athletics has to offer!
My prayers go out to her family and friends...and everyone she touched during her wonderful stay here on earth. I suppose she will now have the best seat in the house for the CWS.
Thanks for everything Kathy!
