But he excelled at the Aflac game (among others of course), and look what that did for him now. As for not taking credit for Walden in the 12th, I'd have to disagree. Re: Going to get a New Bat (need suggestions)

Adam Carlton ·
Do not get a torque. Unless they have gotten any better since the old model (orange one), they are made of a very weak alloy. If you hit with any power what so ever, and I imagine you do since the reg flex is too much, it is not the bat for you. I can't hit with it at all because when I swing hard, the bat seems to give a lot when you make contact, and it bends back at the same time. Definitely not a good bat.The stiff stealths are supposed to be good, but all the stealths I have heard can...

yeah, they are strobes, with MeC25 alloy instead of MeC35 found on torques. The 07 torques are same pattern as old orange ones, but they are blue instead of orange, but I personally wouldn't buy a 250 dollar nike bat. Buy last years model of a stealth or dynasty or something. Much better.

Great thread, and excellent contributions by all. I myself didn’t get the instructional manual that listed the do’s and don’ts of being a baseball parent, and I don’t know anybody that did. But I worry sometimes that baseball has become an elitist sport. That is something I always hated about golf or tennis (not that I hate either sport), and telling people how to act or looking down one’s nose at those who act differently are symptoms that lead me to think that it’s more than a bit true.

I'm not going to rain on any one's parade today but since pitchers have been have been hit with line drives throughout the history of the game are there more injuries now because of the bat? Is there data to support that? No. From a data collection model you cannot substanuate the "what ifs". Does it have anything to do with the fact that overall batters are physically stronger today thus more of them are hitting the ball harder and as a result even if wood was the "bat of choice" would...

Very true. However, reaction time aside, assuming you are going to get hit either way, that "little extra pop off the metal bat" might mean the difference between a couple of surgeries or "God forbid", worse. Just another one of those, we'll agree to disagree things.

I'll preface my comments by saying that I like much of what Linear brings to the table regarding pure swing mechanics, and I've learned to turn a deaf ear to the rest of the nonsense. I use the term "pure swing mechanics" because IMO there's often a significant difference between what we see in the cage and what we see on the field. I'd suggest that if Linear and his guru were to venture out and witness minor league hitters in a practice environment, they'd probably have a very difficult...

You may find this link helpful. http://www.irs.gov/irm/part7/ch10s27.html I have been involved with leagues getting exemptions but not individual teams. I would assume it harder for a team to get the 501(c)(3) designation then a league. i.e. maybe you can qualify as a 501(c)(4). If you go with the AAU affiliation you will be required to follow their model (bylaws/rules) in addition to paying the annual fees. - similiar to Little League - make sure you can live with the AAU bylaws. Re: DEFINE GOOD GENES

I guess logically you could say that a newborn carries with him the motor skills that his dad has. But what probably gets him interested in the first place is how much the dad enjoys teaching his son how to play catch, as well as anything else from his knowledge about the game. But most importantly is if the dad is very close to his son, the dad will be a role model to his son and the kid will probably wanna follow in his father's footsteps.

Re: Elbow pain

Coach Chris ·
The problem is that my study of pitchers and injuries is giving me the sense that some of what people advocate as "proper mechanics" are the very things that are causing injuries. This isn't just my opinion, others have said it as well. For example, see "Effect of Pitch Type, Pitch Count, and Pitching Mechanics on Risk of Elbow and Shoulder Pain in Youth Baseball Pitchers" by Stephen Lyman PhD, Glenn S. Fleisig PhD, James R. Andrews MD, and E. David Osinski MA. On page 465 of this article,...

Re: Choosing the right baseball glove for my son

HeyBatter ·
third baseman, especially in this metal bat era seem to be using bigger gloves. 11 3/4 or 12 seems to be the typical size (though I've seen some go to the 12 1/4"). My son has played 3rd (and short) and used a Mizuno Pro Model 11 3/4 and a Rawlings 12'' Heart of the hide playing third. I think, you want to save the 11 1/2'' for the middle infield. A little extra glove helps at the hot corner with those metal bat rockets.

Because it's not material. Yes, I did oversimplify the relationship of the pieces, but that was intentional; the point I was trying to make is that strengthening the muscles of the back will do nothing to address an elbow problem. Oh please. An extremely powerful force causes the forearm to fly out. The only way to resist this force, and to have the hand ahead of the elbow at the release point, is by powerfully pronating the forearm. This is basic anatomy. I'm flattered. Actually, if you...
