I'm all for curve balls at a young age, but only if the other team is throwing them. I think its great that my kids get to experience hitting them without the risk(real or percieved) of throwing them.
If you are in the camp that believes throwing a curveball at a young age doesn't put stress on the arm, if you are right I guess it doesn't matter. Now if you are wrong, well.....
I wonder what percentage of professional pitchers threw a breaking ball before they entered high school? I would bet that it was the majority of them.
Each player is different and needs to advance at his own rate. For some it is about just working on the fastball while for others it may be learning how to throw a breaking ball. Teaching proper mechanics on the fastball should be paramount for those who have issues.
