Greg Thomchic from Princess Ann did Verbal with ODU and Chase Lemasters also from P.A verbal to Radford. and 2012 player from Cape Henry, Jack Wynkoop Verbal to South Carolina. All three played with Hitters Warehouse this summer and all three are very deserving, Great Job. I've said it before, The Rob Younces, Soup Campbells, Tim Smith, Matt Sinnan, and I know I have forgotten many coaches, have done a tremendous job coaching alot of these players who have signed college scholarships, The coaching in the 757 area is just outstanding, I'm talking travel ball. and showcase.
Congratulations to Joey Varaksa, who has made a verbal commitment to Longwood!

Joey is a 2011 at Albemarle High School, where he has primarily played SS and pitched. Joey spent the summer for the Virginia Cardinals mostly as our primary third baseman, but also pitched, played SS and 1B. This fall, Joey made the move behind the plate and developed into a sub-2.0 pop time catcher. As a pitcher, his velocity improved to the mid-80's as well. The true do-it-all player with a strong bat, Joey had a chance to put his full versatility on display in our last game of the year, a 9 inning game in which he played every position on the field.

Joey becomes our third 2011 Cardinals commitment, and our fourth overall.
Congratulations to Will Brown, Matoaca 2011 RHP, on his commitment to Georgetown today!

Will got stuck behind two stud seniors last spring and saw only limited action for Matoaca, but shined all summer and fall for the Virginia Cardinals. His fastball runs 84-88 with hard boring/sinking action, and he mixes it with a sharp breaker and a true "Bugs Bunny change up".

Will becomes our fourth 2011 Cardinals commitment and our fifth player from this year's team overall to make a D-1 commitment.

Correction:

Chad Carroll HAS committed to JMU...Tyler Carroll has NOT committed anywhere just yet. Confirmed this with his father.
Congratulations to all the young men on this list. For many of them, they have been playing baseball since they were five or six years old, and, on Wednesday, they will be rewarded for their many years of effort and practice.

Among those with multiple commits, East Carolina, Marshall, UNNC and South Carolina seem to have faired reasonably well. JMU, Radford and W&M also captured some talent.
SHEPHERDSTOWN - Shepherd University head baseball coach Wayne Riser announced today that three student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play baseball for the Rams in 2012.

Cody Bumbaugh (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area), Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) and Brian Martin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) will join the Rams.

Bumbaugh, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound catcher, lettered three years in baseball at Waynesboro Area High School where he plays for Shepherd Hall of Famer Greg Chandler. He was named to the 2009 Patriot-News all- Underclassmen team and gained Mid Penn Colonial Division first-team All-Star and American Legion all-East Team honors in 2010. Bumbaugh batted .329 with a .589 on-base percentage and a .482 slugging percentage last season. He gunned down four of the six players who attempted steals in 20 games. Bumbaugh was a member of the 2009 Mid Penn Aces Fall Showcase Baseball team and 2010 Mid Atlantic Red Sox Fall Showcase Baseball team.

Driver, a 6-2, 175-pound pitcher, lettered in baseball at Kettle Run High School. Driver posted a 6-2 record on the mound with one save. He registered a 2.21 earned run average in 50 innings.

Martin, a 6-6, 185-pound shortstop/pitcher, lettered four years in baseball and three years in basketball at Winters Mill High School. He earned second-team all-conference and all-county honors in 2009. Martin, an Honorable Mention all-conference and all-county choice in 2008, was named to the 2008 NABF World Series all-tournament team and participated in the ECTB Elite all-state Las Vegas Desert Classic.

SC reduced their offer

Yikes, that provides a cautionary tale for all those kids who take themselves off the market so very early.

Does it seem to you guys that we're seeing more and more kids de-commit and change this year than ever before? I suppose that's to be expected, to go hand in hand with the trend towards committing 1 to 1 1/2 years ahead of signing time.

How is it TMI? This stuff isn't rocket science, guys. When a kid de-commits, it is RARELY the kid who says "Hmmmm...maybe this isn't the school for me." I can only think of 1 de-commit who did that. All the others originated from the school side (and multiple times from the same school). When you bring in 2 catchers in the '10 class plus another '11 kid and a verbal from a '12 catcher, there are only so many innings to go around. Not to mention you have 2 on roster already.

BTW, it doesn't make KW a bad kid or player. I think he is a heck of a player and so does UM. I am happy he found a great place to play.

Kevin had a rough summer and SC reduced their offer. He found a great home in Michingan

I have to ask this question. And please excuse my ignorance everyone, but Redbird are you saying that (in the case mentioned above) the school reduced an offer based soley on the performance during a showcase season. And if so, this after seeing the kid perform beforehand AND after offering money based on the performance they had seen before? Doesn't seem like a very good precedent for that school to set.

No, not a good precedent and Kevin was not the only player who received that treatment. The actions by that college and others who reduced or withdrew offers based upon (1) high school and summer performance or (2) the school found someone better, did not go unnoticed by other recruits in the recruiting process. I heard a number of recruits talk, recruits who were doing the math and calculating that if the number of committments being made were in the upper teens / low twenties, something was going to have to give.

What WB reporter said...and I agree. It is a horrible precedent for that school to set. They did it a couple of times this summer.
