I was reading the 'Recruited Non-Scholarhip Player' thread and it led me to a different question. What happens if a kid academically qualifies for a scholarship. Let's say a kid has a 3.9 and very good SAT scores - maybe 2050 or better. He would qualify for an academic scholarship at some schools.

Suppose he plays baseball too? Would any of his academic scholarship apply towards the 11.7? Is the college limited in what they could give academically because he plays baseball? Any insights on how this would work would be appreciated. Thanks

Guidelines exist that prescribe when the student athlete can receive academic aid and not have it count toward athletic aid (e.g., the 11.7).

For D1: academic 'ships don't count as athletic if - top 10 % of class, or a core-course GPA of at least 3.5, or min. 105 ACT or 1200 SAT.

For D2: academic 'ships don't count as athletic if - top 20 % of class, or a core-course GPA of at least 3.5, or min. 105 ACT or 1140 SAT.

For NAIA: 1200 SAT, 3.75 GPA or top 10% of class, gets academic exemption on 'ships. 3.6 GPA required to remain exempted.
