Papi, Hollie was a high school classmate of my son. She was born in England and moved to Texas so that is how you get the mixed accent. We're not all natives down here. In fact she sang the national anthem at one of our playoff games last year.
I just found out last night that she was English. I still think she has a speech impediment but she sings great.
.
She's thoroughly English all right. And a real beaut!

Bottom three was 2/3 wrong.
But it was time for Shannon to go.
I'm continually baffled by these voters.

the vote is a popularity contest---talent can mean nothing
With some contestants, that is absolutely true.
I get to watch live tonight so I'll update as the show progresses. I love Billy Joel, especially the oldest stuff. Who knew P Diddy knows Billy Joel?
Deandre: If Billy Joel was dead, he'd be rolling over in his grave. This kid is absolutely terrible.
Erica: Very, very nice. And I'm digging the new hairdo.
Joshua: Ok. Kinda clear he had never heard the song. I don't think he's a pop singer or an Idol but he does have a unique voice. I feel bad for him that he went into it/came out of it thinking he was going to/and did do poorly.
Skylar: She's so much better when she's up an rockin'. Not so good when she's singing too low.
Elise: I liked that a lot. Sultry, smoky and threw in a few growls. Best so far. But she's gotta quit wearing those goofy hats.
Phillip: One of my favorite Joel songs. He made it his own. I liked it. Phillip gets into his music more than any of the contestants.
Hollie: She did okay. She is such a powerful singer for such a little girl. Not my favorite tonight, but good enough.
HeeJun: The act is wearing thin. I think Steven has had enough too. This song truly showed that he can't pronounce the English words. BUT, I'm sure the voters will eat this up.
Jessica: Another tiny, powerful singer. Nice job. Was it standing ovation worthy?
Colton: Awesome. Great song, great rendition.

Top: Elise, Erica, Phillip, Colton (not necessarily in that order)
Bottom: Deandre, HeeJun, Joshua (definitely in that order)

I had been indifferent to Colton before last night, but I really like his version of Piano Man.
I am bored with Deandre and HeeJun. I'm beginning to get tired of Phil.

+1
This week's bottom three was 2/3 right this time. But the wrong 1/3 went home.
I don't believe Erica is the American Idol, but it wasn't time to go yet.

9 Left.
Stevie Nicks! How cool is that?!?!?
Colton: I'm calling this race right now. He is the American Idol. He's got it all.
Skylar: She should be in the finale with Colton. She slayed that Miranda Lambert song. That was fun to watch.
HeeJun: I was not familiar with the song but that was nice.
Hollie: she did a good job. She has a great voice. I think she's #4.
DeAndre: I just can't stand him. I might just fast-forward through his song.
Yeah, I should have. It was gross. What the hell is wrong with these judges?
Jessica: tremendous voice and talent for her age. Top 3 for sure.
Phillip: I don't remember an Idol contestant who gets every pore of his body into each performance like this kid. And Stevie wants him in Fleetwood Mac. Enough said.
Joshua: I liked his performance this week. But I don't think he can be mainstream enough to win.
Elise: Holy ****, I think I just fell in love. Elise singing Led Zeppelin. Are you freaking kidding me!!!!!!!!
Okay, I gotta think about the order of finish for a while.

Ok, this is my order for tonight's performances (my final order in parenthesis). All subject to change as I have no idea what I'm talking about!
1. Elise (6)
2. Skylar (4)
3. Phillip (3)
4. Colton (1)
5. Jessica (2)
6. Hollie (5)
7. Joshua (7)
8. HeeJun (8)
9. DeAndre (999)
1. Elise (6)
2. Skylar (4)
3. Phillip (3)
4. Colton (1)
5. Jessica (2)
6. Hollie (5)
7. Joshua (7)
8. HeeJun (8)
9. DeAndre (999)
I picked Elise as my favorite early on. Even when they picked on her some recently I still thought she was terrific. Tonight was freakin' unbelievable. I am not that big of a LZ fan myself, but ... have you ever tried to sing that song? It's just an impossible song to sing, and she just blew me away. I'm saving that one on TiVo for a while. I mean, there were 4-5 times in that song where I just sat up and went, "how did she do THAT?"
Stevie Nicks said she would love to have Elise sing with her. Good luck, Stevie. Maybe she'll let you be her opening act someday, you old goat throat.

Runners up: Joshua -- just terrific, maybe would've been a better fit back in the days of Teddy Pendergrass and Al Green, but he is very very talented. Colton -- would fit right in to today's pop circuit, sounds like a young Bono.
Andre -- I actually got to hear his real voice during the trio number and liked it. I just wonder why he thinks this is a falsetto contest. I think he maybe can actually sing, I just wonder if he'll get cut before he actually does.
After that I don't really care much. Jessica has a nice voice but no real versatility. How many ballads can you listen to in a row? I guess Celine Dion sold a lot of CD's there for a while, but I'm bored already. Phillip -- the Dave Mathews job is already filled, so unless he dies unexpectedly, I don't see the point. Skylar really isn't very talented but I have to admit, she has fun and it's infectious in a Reba kind of way. Hollie really needs to stop imitating older women and just sing like the teenager she is. Heejun just looks so geeky I have to close my eyes to listen, and I still don't get the appeal at all.
I'm not predicting, because the end results never agree with me anyway. I'm old and out of the loop! But I'll tell you what, when Elise's CD comes out I will pay for that one.

idol has never had a night with so many stellar performances----just outsTANDING
Still feeling it though, my fellow Rhode Islander got s#%#wed last week. Heejun should be long gone.

Agreed even more but not until the week after DeAndre.
Fantastic show last night. I though Elise was amazing, but so were others.
I really don't need to see Deandre perform again. Heejun did well but doesn't have staying power.
I like how they are using Jimmy this year.

4/4/12
I'm a little behind on the DVR.
Love the 80's.
DeAndre: still just awful. But the duet with Holly was enjoyable. Are the producers paying the judges extra to say they like this kid?
Elise: I really like her and was excited when I heard her song choice, but it fell a little flat for me. I, like Ellen Degeneres, have no idea what pitchy means but this must be it. Darn. But I loved her duet with Phillip. Stevie Nicks is right up her alley.
Phillip: I thought that was pretty good.
Joshua: I liked it until the end when he started making all those faces and running his voice up and down. But good overall.
Jessica: What a voice!
Holly: Ditto! But I liked her duet better than her solo.
Colton: This worked. A guy singing Cyndi Lauper. I liked it. He can be a pop/rock star.
Skylar: Boy am I glad she didn't sing 9 to 5. All I can think of is Reba when I look at and hear this girl sing. And Reba has kinda had a nice career.
So here's my weekly results with overall updated finish in parentheses.
1. Skylar (3)
2. Colton (1)
3. Phillip (4)
4. Jessica (2)
5. Joshua (7)
6. Elise (5)
7. Holly (6)
8. DeAndre (888)

I didn't catch his performance, but I can imagine.
You know..."The Timster" was quite an inspiration.
Gracious sakes! After all of that papi I just want to get up and dance. Wie über einige kibble Leute?
"How on earth did he hit those high notes?"......"You don't want to know!"

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
And there is great joy in Hollywood (and Illinois)...DeAndre has struck out!!!

Once again I agreed with Jimmy. I like the way he called the judges out on Deandre.
For some reason I keep pulling for Elise, but she needs to be consistently good to hang in there. I agreed that Hollie sounded very high school-ish. Maybe got through one year too soon. I liked Phil ok but he seems to be in a different contest, and I forget him quickly.
Still enjoying it.
The right contestant left.

I have to say this was the first week that I actually enjoyed DeAndre's performance, but I think it was too little...too late. I don't have a clear cut leader, but I'm still leaning towards Jessica. Skylar was a pleasant surprise and has a great personality, and can move up with another strong showing next week. I'm a big Dave Mathews Band fan, and Phillip reminds me of him...however, I'm not sure if he's an American Idol? Colton has grown on me, but he needs to pick the right songs, or he could be in trouble? Joshua has an amazing voice, but he's a little too soft for me, perhaps it's his little brother syndrome? Elise has a strong Rocker voice, but she's lacking that likeability factor that Skylar has. Hollie is cute, has a strong set of vocal chords, but she may be next to go? Song choice and confidence is important for her...
Here's the current leader board list from yours truly..."The Couch Potatoe" expert from So Cal!!!
1. Jessica
2. Colton
3. Phillip
4. Joshua
5. Skylar
6. Elise
7. Hollie

I think you have the top 4 right though I'd have it ordered as 1 and 4 in a tie, and 2 and 3 in a tie, appealing to different demographics. I predict Elise will be next to go. I think she is more talented than Hollie but America likes blondes and that is her sole saving grace. Notice the outfit she lowered herself to wear Thursday? Searching for votes anyway she can. I also think Hollie may outlast Skylar for the same reason. Not for singing talent.

RedSoxFan21,
I'm with you...but I do think that Skylar will stick around a little longer than we think. Her personality will help her with votes...time will tell, how much and how long?

Wow, they were all good last night. Tops were probably Skylar, Joshua and Elise.
From now on, every week will be a bad loss. But if I had to vote one off the, island, it would be Holly.
And then the judges should save her.

Biggerpapi, I believe you have predicted the results show tonight.
at this point in time they are all winners
Tom, I agree. I think they're all terrific singers. But who has the chops to be THE American Idol?
Maybe they all do. Thta's why I think this is the week to save whoever gets voted off.
I never heard of Bruno Mars until the Grammys and he performed the song Joshua did last night. It's a fun song and they both perform it in a fun way. Joshua is growing on me each week.
Skylar and Colton both have star power.
I might be growing weary of Phillip.
I love Elise.
Jessica and Holly sing way above their years. Does anyone see what I see? The nightly transformation from "interview Holly" to "performance Holly" is like none seen before on this show.

I have no idea who's leaving tonight? I agree, they all did a great job last night. I was surprised the judges were so negative with Holly's performance, I thought she did pretty good. The negative comments may have hurt her chances of moving on to next week? Of course, there is still a "Judges Save", however I doubt they'd use it for her? One thing is certain, this is the strongest Top 7 that AI has ever had.
OMG (that's Oh My Gwarsh)
That group song might have been the worst performance ever on Idol and that includes the tryouts!
==========
The bottom three were just announced. Huh?!?!?
==========
Jessica? Are you kidding me? These voters are morons.
==========
Good save.

I honestly think they would have saved any of those bottom three. Holly shows the least polish of the one's left although she has a big beautiful voice. I'm not sure they would have saved her. I think they would have certainly saved any of the others. Do they eliminate two next week?
