Down to 42. I've got a couple in mind for the late rounds. Can't tell you who they are though cause I really don't know a lot of their names.

I'm surprised Hee Jun made it. Very nice voice but I think he has trouble with the pronunciation of many English words. To me it really stood out on the Elvis song.

Also, can we please stop with the nose piercings and the lip rings?

Personally, I still miss Simon! Loved his sarcastic wit & humor. You either loved or hated him. But, he was never boring! Called it like he saw it. But, used to that type of personality...being married for over 30 yrs., to a former Brit!
I agree. However, I am enjoying having the three judges that actually sing and play instruments. They have a lot of credibility to me.

Much better than Ellen. She was mildly humorous but she had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. She's either mimic what Randy said or she'd tell the contestant they were pitchy.

Might as well have me up there.
I am a fan of this panel of judges - love JLo and ST. Hated the panels with 4, and thought Paula was incomprehensible and Simon too predictable.

Now the show seems to focus more on the contestants and less on the judges. I tune in to what the contest, not the commentary. That being said, I can't wait to see what STyler says next.
Ok, we're down to the Top 24. Should we be so bold as to pick our finalists?

The problem is that I don't know all of their names but I'll go on record as of today:

1. Jen (tall brunette. Was the first to be put in the 24)

2. The bearded guy with the brand new baby

3. Reed Grimm. But I'm worried if he scats too much, the viewers will get rid of him. They didn't seem to like that last year.

I'll adjust as we go, but that's what I see today.
They fooled me. I didn't know the show was on last night until the first three singers had already performed. This made me mad because I missed Reid Grimm and the bearded guy with the new baby.

As for the rest of them, I thought it was pretty poor. The judges lushed over all of them but I didn't like them at all.

Maybe it was the song selections. Colton, couldn't sing when he had to get loud, the guy that looks like the Fluffy comedian sounds like a girl, the teeny bopper Eban is cute but not good last night.

I guess the one that was okay was Marcellus. Sang a Michael Jackson song. He wasn't bad.

No doubt! Again, I missed the first 3-4 last night but the rest of them destroyed all the guys.

Again, I didn't like some of the songs but with what little I know about singing...they really showed they can all sing like crazy.
I really gave up on the whole auditions/Hollywood thing this year, just started tuning in for the elimination rounds.

I've been surprised at the low level of talent generally. Quite a drop off from recent years. Maybe they are all just new to the big stage and nervous, but not many of them held my interest, and many were so off that I hit the fast forward button.

Among the guys, the heavy metal kid is not my cup of tea but I do recognize that for what he's trying to do he's very good at it. The two soul-oriented guys were next in line to my ears.

Among the girls, the only one worth a darn was Elise Testone, and she was very good indeed. The girl who sang the same song that Testone did was put to shame by comparison. The little country girl who sounded like Reba McIntyre was a fun performer but not what you'd call a great singer.

WHO is the heavy metal kid? I can't think of one who's even close other than the one who's biological father is the lead singer for Flotsam & Jetsam. But he's very very far from a heavy metal singer.

Not knocking, just curious.
Well, all of my pics made it thru, except for the Gentle Giant - Jermaine, think his deep voice will limit him. Colton, the guy with the weird two-tone spiked hair that stood on the piano (Adam Lambert wanna be) and who wasn't even planning to audition, his sister was...she got knocked out earlier in the competition. She didn't look real pleased when her brother was called in to audition. And HeeJun & Deandre, the long curly headed guy that sounds like a girl. Anyways, I think the girls may be stronger and a girl is due to win.
Colton Dixon - he's okay
HeeJune Han - the act is old. He has a nice voice but can't pronounce English words.
Jermaine Jones - he's okay
Joshua Ledet - okay but maybe not mainstream enough
Phillip Phillips - I hate Dave Matthews but I kinda like this guy.
Jeremy Rosado - wild card. Bad choice. Don't like that fake crying and whispering voice.
Denadre - wild card. NO WAY. He's my Sanjaya this year.

Elise Testone - I like her raspy voice.
Hollie Cavanagh - as long as she's not talking in her babyish, lisping, fake English accent (she's from Texas?) she sings great
Jessica Sanchez - liked her a lot after she sang with a sick throat
Shannon Magrane - I think she's the weakest girl but only because she's so young.
Skylar Lane - she's fun. Like the country girls.
Erika Van Pelt - wild card. Good add.

If I had any changes to make I'd have dumped HeeJun, Deandre and Jeremy. I'd rather see Adam "White Chocolate" Brock and Reed Grimm in there.

For the girls, they're much stronger than the guys. But I'd replace Shannon with Jen Hirsch or even Baylie Brown.

Thank goodness they dropped the cute little teeny bopper and the obnoxious NY girl with the even more obnoxious mother.

That's the problem with the viewers voting. However, the judges brought him back from the dead so they must see something they like too.

I don't.
Well, I wasn't that trilled with the beginning, but I think that they did an outstanding job of finding a very talented group.

I told DK weeks ago that Jessica would be the next idol, or runner up and I am sticking to my gut feeling. She is what, 16?

The girls did much better last night than the first, hopefully the next AI will be a female!
In the youtube clip I posted above, there are already over one million three hundred thousand hits on her performance and it has only been a few days. She has already won imho and it has nothing to do with whether or not she wins the IDOL competition.

Great talents have their own unique style and I think Jessica has that. She has a unique look and she has a unique stage presence and unbelievable vocal abilities. When I think of the great talents, I think of Judy Garland who was a timeless performer. Jessica can be that good imho.

One other thing, Dollie Parton wrote that song and performs it wonderfully. It almost seems like the media has deemed it Whitney Houston's song and I don't see it that way for a number of reasons.

OK, back to BASEBALL...

Coaching my HS V team, last night we have our first night game, neighboring rival school, sure to be packed, lots of surrounding adversity with our top 3 pitchers and two of our top position players shelved.

Time for my pregame speech during warm-ups...

"This game tonight... is the is the ONLY THING... I would miss American Idol for."

End of speech, walked away.

Loosened 'em up pretty good. We win. Wow, the impact of that show.

Oh, and by the way, I kinda get that Phillip Phillips has some musical geniusness to him, but he just doesn't sound that good to me.
