Wow, I did not see that bottom three coming. Maybe voters got complacent.
I agree with the view that this is a strong group.
It would seem that the demographics of the home town crowd have a lot to do with the results. I think being from a large city can be detrimental whereas a being from small town and you’re a big fish gives you a clear advantage. I wonder if the folks from across the pond are also voting for Holly. I know that while I have voted very few times in all the years I have been watching, I am compelled to pick up the phone next week.
I wonder if voting is down and that result was engineered to restore the activity. (Thoughts from behind the grassy knoll.)

I think America might have been trying to send a message…my wife was telling me that many of the AI blogs out there are not thrilled with the love fest with Jessica and Joshua this year. To be honest I haven't been much of a fan of the judging this year either...I miss Simon, at least he told it like it was and would challenge the front runners. Too many this times this season Randy and JLO seem to be falling all over themselves gushing about Jessica and Joshua... I get the feeling that if they had their way they would skip the rest of the contestants and hand Jess/Josh the crown. Don't get me wrong, I think both of them are outstanding but the judges seem a little bias this year.
As big a fan as I was of Steven Tyler last year, this year he seems to be going through the motions by just spewing out a bunch of pre-program responses ("that's just beautiful...blah, blah, blah"), if you watch him I think he is sometimes embarrassed that he is on the show?
Big fan of the talent this year…not so much the show.

Skylar! Skylar! Skylar!
Skylar! Skylar! Skylar!
P.S. RIP Dick Clark
Who didn't like Dick Clark?
Who didn't like Dick Clark?
I was a little underwhelmed last night. But I'm no talent scout and if I'm not familiar with the song, or if I just don't like the song, I'll have trouble evaluating the singer.
Didn't like either of Jessica's songs. Really didn't like Phillip's songs. I have a thing for Elise and was very disappointed with "Let's Get It On."
I was totally turned off by Hollie singing the Adele song. To paraphrase TRhit, KIDS TODAY SING THAT **** ADELE SONG TOO OFTEN!!!!! Remember early in the tryouts when Steven Tyler got out of the limo and said, "Oh great, another day of listening to 4000 kids sing f-n Adele!"
Joshua was good, Skylar was the best.
If the fans have truly given up on Jessica, this might be her week to go again. From here on out, every week is a great loss, they're all terrific singers.

Philip is the sleeper. Holly and Elise are done.
Jessica and Joshua peaked too early.
Skylar is very likable and may be an equal sleeper with Phillip.
Colton is cooked.

Oh yeah, both of his performances stunk.
And the voters agreed.
Kind of surprised to see Colton go last night...even though I didn't think he was very good this week I did think he had a stronger following.
As we come down the home stretch I would rank them as follows...
1. Phillip (Probably my favorite however he might be better off in the long term not winning)
2. Skylar (probably the most commercial of the bunch)
3. Joshua (I'll look forward to seeing him win his gospel Grammy)
4. Jessica (might win it all but not sure she will sell a lot of music)
5. Elise (One my personal favs but don't see her in the winners circle)
6. Holly (Broadway bound...)

Not sure I agree with that. I think popularity allowed some of the lesser talents to survive because they concentrated votes with a particular person among a large group.
Now, people's hometown/region influence diminishes as a wider group of people must vote on those not from their backyard. That vote logically should drift to talent.
The real question becomes one now of how much does talent drive popularity. They should become one and the same since it is called American Idol, not America's Most Talented.

Everyone was pretty good. I LOVE Queen.
Elise won the night. I Want It All was perfect and I loved the Jimi Hendrix choice for the second song.
So the judges tell Elise not to sing a song no one knows (and her response was "Everyone knows that song!") then the tell Jessica, great job singing a song no one knows.
Huh?
Anyway, I think Philip was the weakest link last night.
We'll see!

I'm thinking about who I want to see in the final. At this point I'd say Joshua and Elise. I am ready for Phil to go. Jessica has been a disappointment - just can't connect with her, despite her immense talent. Skylar is predictable.
That being said, I have no idea who will get sent home.

I thought all six contestants did a good job and sang at least one song really well last night. I agree with the judges, Joshua has some amazing pipes...but is he deserving of all the Standing O's? I don't think so. Jessica's first (Queen) song was weak, but I thought she did a great job with her second song dedicated to her dad. Elise was in the zone in her first (Queen) song and rocked it out, but I was disappointed in her Jimmi Hendrix choice...there are better Hendrix tunes to choose from, why that one? Phillip also did a great job with his (Queen) song, and blew it with his rendition of a Dave Matthews piece. Skylar was very good (not great) on both of her performances, she reminds me a little of Reba...a spit-fire young lady, with an out-going personality. I thought Holly's first (Queen) song was good, and her second performance was worthy of the "Standing O".
So...who goes home tonight? Who knows? They're all very good and seem to be getting better each and every week.

Um, I guess I missed that one.
So Elise goes home. Not a shock really IMO. Judges have been leading that way (along with Holly) for several weeks. For the most part, I feel America follows. Holly is finally feeling like she belongs to me. I don't get the love fest of Joshua, he sings incredible (as do they all) but I just don't feel "it" with him.
On another note it is sad as an Ohioan, that this forum (OH/PA/WV/KY), that this thread has recieved more comments than those the threads combined between July 3rd 2011 and now. Of Course, I am guilty as well!

Elise is gone?!?! It’s proof that this is a teeny-bopper contest and not a reflection of real talent. She will be fine in the long run. I think she has the maturity to take full advantage of what she has gained from AI.

Wow, what a great night. I enjoyed nearly all of the performances.
Hollie: very very good
Skylar: loved Fortunate Son, not so much on You Don't Have to Bla Bla Bla
Joshua: I'm liking him more and more each week. But it's a good thing the judges aren't voting anymore or this contest would be over now.
Phillip: I really liked The Letter and was horrified listening to Time of the Season. I could have sung the song that badly.
Jessica: Proud Mary, ok, don't like to watch her try to dance. You Are So Beautiful, very nice. I love that song. Beautiful song sung by one of the ugliest ever, Joe Cocker.
Overall: Hollie was the best and Phillip was the worst.
That being said, the worst of this group is pretty darn good.

Once again, I more or less agree with Biggerpapi.
Hollie gets the award for most improved. Jessica has dropped the most for me, as I was initially a big fan. I am tired of PP, and thought his second song was painful. I just don't see any range in him. He bores me.
Joshua continues to bring it. I look forward to his performances the most.
All in all, a great group. All winners in their own way.

Dudette???, you gotta get a life? !!!!
I think we all agree that when you get down to the last few (especially this year) that it's very hard to determine who goes home and it's a great loss every week.
HOWEVER...Skylar? Are you kidding me?
Jessica had one dismal performance and Phillip is getting ollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllld. Plus his second song was atrocious.
I totally disagree with last night and can't wait to buy Skylar's first CD.

I also enjoyed Jimmy Iovine's comments last night. When watching the performances Wednesday night, I remarked to my wife that if Jessica were my daughter, I'd be screaming at the show for letting her wear such slinky clothes.
Jimmy had the same thought...apparently the voters did not.
Also, is there a contestant that seems to have more fun on stage than Skylar?

My friend at work told me that her daughter voted about 30 times for PP.
Hormonal teens (who do most of the voting) probably vote more so for looks, what they wear, than or if it were a good night or a bad one. That's why Jessica and Hollie won over Skylar.
I do believe that Jimmy made that remark on purpose, for us older folks!
I am a big fan of Jessica's talent but I just can't connect.
My vote goes to Joshua, I hope that he wins.

This is the 1st season for me that is getting really hard to watch. I have enjoyed AI in the past, even ended up liking Steven Tyler. Now it seems old to me. The judges don't say much to really help the contestants, they keep saying the same stuff, and it's just not holding my attention. I actually miss Simon!
If they continue to let the voters vote as many times as possible then the favorite of the teens will always win. Since they've given Ryan Seacrest such a big contract they obviously plan on sticking around. Hope they change things up for next season.
But the comments here are always worth reading!

So who will pick up Skylar's votes this week? Seems to me that Skylar's fans are least likely to vote for PP, but that could be wishful thinking because he bores the begeezus out of me.
I am so glad that Jimmy is there to give a real critique.
Pulling for Joshua now. I hope Hollie brings it again, though. It is fun watching someone really step it up.
I'm beginning to think Jessica should have waited a year. She doesn't seem to have her own identity yet. She can sure sing, though.

I would have said that PhilSquared is the most likely to get Skylar votes because the others are farther away from the country twang than he.
Holly could get them though because the two were chums.
Jessica peaked weeks ago.
Joshua is loved by the judges but not necessarily by Jimmy.
Although I like PhilSquared he is getting a bit monotonous and my guess is he is the next one to get the axe.

Wow, I believe we've set the top 2 with the second songs from Joshua and Jessica.
After hearing Joshua sing "It's A Man's World" I declared him the winner. Then I heard Jesica's second song and had to come back and edit my post.

I take back my PhilSquared comment. Although the two Js belted out predictable but strong ballads, Phil continued to stay unique and if you really listened you had to have him tied for first in his own unique and eclectic way.
Bye Bye Holly.
Bye Bye Holly.

The James Brown song was far from predictable. That showed a great deal of "entertainer" from Joshua.
Trust me, I haven't really been a fan of Joshua as an "idol" but after that performance I think he's the winner.

While I think Joshua is the best "entertainer" on the show this year I wonder if his act will translate well into selling music?
Other than Daughtry, Carrie and Kelly, isn't that true about most of the past winners? I don't know any actual numbers but take David Cook's performance last night...borrrrrring!
Holly was fine, but time to go. Who's next?

Phillip is next to go. He's just not in the same league. He has no range. In fact I would rather see Holly still around. Jessica still has the chops to win and now as the only girl will probably pick up a few more of the gender influenced votes.
Actually, if I were still there this year, I woulnd't even worry so much about winning or not. Every week Jimmy says he'll sign them on the spot and last night he said Tommy Mottola wants Jessica.
These kids are IN no matter what happens.

Absolutely, and that extends to Skylar and Colton, IMHO.
Not so sure about Holly.
Great group for nearly the entire top 10,and their royalties from this summer's live top 10 tour won't hurt either. Good for Ericka!
As to Philip's range, poster must have snoozed off. He continues to grow, despite still being ill with kidney stone issues.
One of the Js will win, but all three will prosper. My guess is, given the genre and the teen appeal, Phillip will earn more over time than either of the Js though.

If I was only able to download one song and my choice was between the final three contestants, Phillip would get my $1.29 without a second thought. Personally I thought PP's version of Volcano was the best song of the the night.
Now if I wanted to go see a "Diva" show in Vegas that included 15 wardrobe changes I guess either of the J's would do.
