My son is an '06 being recruited by schools at all levels. As I listen to his friends who do not plan to play sports in college - they are all already applying. For us, the decision depends on our upcoming visits, whether he has an early offer or decides to wait til spring, etc. Did you go ahead and apply at some "fall back" schools - just to hold a spot? His grades are good and ACT is not a problem, so it isn't really about worrying about getting accepted; - just about having a room and not having the door closed. Our state schools tend to do that fairly early. Any suggestions?

wisbballmom -
YES. You want to submit college applications before the up-coming deadlines to the top schools your son is interested in, especially if baseball is not an option. The worse situation to be in next summer is without a baseball offer and no other options for attending a 4-year school. Eek (Check websites closely as colleges have different deadlines!)

PS. Welcome to the High School Baseball Messageboard! Cool

wisbbmom - The way we handled it with my '05 was applied to two of the schools that had contacted him about baseball that he was interested in, but that I had to pay application fees for. Then, gradually over the winter he applied to some others that were either had free early application periods or that sent him free aps online, etc. Also, colleges usually come to the HSs. There he will be presented with the opportunity to possibly apply to some free of charge - if it happens to be one he might be interested in, then apply.

Come spring, naturally he'll start getting calls about what he hasn't registered for orientation, etc. That is where a crunch time comes if he hasn't signed with someone. He'll have to make some decisions due to deposits that will be required. In the meantime, apply to schools based on would he go there with baseball/without baseball and fees required IMO.

If he doesn't sign this winter or next spring and a school comes along late in the game (summer), they'll get him in. Smile
