My son was invited to the 2013 Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Games tryouts at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. The Brewers scouts were in charge and ran the tryout.Nate Trosky was one of the Brewers scouts that seemed to be in charge. The Westmont coaches were involved in some capacity since it's their field. There were probably others involved too but I could not tell.

As far as the actual Area Code Games in Long Beach I'm not sure who the coaches were.Unfortunately,my son did not make the cut, but it was a cool experience anyways I would assume it is the the scouts from the teams just like the tryouts.

Doctor; for 26 years, the teams are coached by pro scouts. The pro scouts select the players for tryouts and the games. During the 17 years which I operated the games, I formed a 900 team of players who were "overlooked" at the tryouts and placed the player on the 900 team. There are currently 20 players in MLB from this 900 team [also coached by pro scouts].

In 1987, we used wood bats. The scouts and I agreed this was the best tool to evaluate the hitters. With the 95 mph pitchers, the hitter is at a disadvantage,

However he know what is pitched [fastball, fastball]. For this reason we had 6 days for the hitter to adjust with wood.
