I'm interested in buying a Rawlings helmet and I don't know whether or not to get 70 or 80 proof. I play 13u and my question is if I'm hit in the head with 80 wearing a 70 proof helmet, will the helmet crack or will it just not fully protect me?

What do you think is the best helmet to buy and why? By the way I am a Junior helmet size.

I didn't even know that helmets were made to a certain pitching speed.

If it was my head I would get the highest rated helmet possible.

Rawlings does have a line of helmets that offer specific protection tested at the various pitched speeds.  The MiLB had a few years ago mandated these 100MPH helmet from Rawlings, and several players had commented that when hit in the head with a 90MPH+ pitch, they were able to jog right off to 1B without much of a thought.  Those helmets have several different layers / section o materials that absorb the blow.  There was talk about making players in the minors keep wearing them when they get to the Majors since they would be use to it.  The helmet is quite a bit larger than what you see in the MLB, and would likely not go over very well with veterans.

Good helmets...I'd recommend....and go with the highest rating they have.

Now if they could only do something for the pitchers!
