Just in case anyone wants to know: IN the Liberty/Eastern View game a 15 year old freshman from Liberty hit a 2 run HR in the 4th inning (Brock Smith)....FYI He also pitched against Spotsy on Friday 3/16...came in with the bases loaded and no outs...held the Knights to one hit and a tie game where LHS scored the game winner in the bottom of the 7th. King George vs Chancellor Final Score:

KG 3 Chancellor 0

A very defensive battle with only a total of 6-7 hits give up between both teams. The 3rd inning was the crucial inning. With 2 outs Damion Carroll singled, followed by a hit by Dylan Dombrowskas in the LC gap for another single. Both runners advanced on a passed ball. Carroll and Dombrowskas scored on a throwing error by the 3rd baseman on a hard hit grounder by Zack Kegsley. The throw was low and the 1B missed it. KG would later add 1 run in the 6th with a triple into the RF corner by Truslow followed by a single by Cody Bell.

Dustin Phillips pitched 4 good innings allowing no runs and maybe 1 hit (not sure whether there was hit or not). Damion Carroll earned the save pitching the final 3 innings striking out 9 and allowing 2 hits.

All in all a well fought and played game by both teams. Kudos to the Chancellor pitcher - he kept the KG hitters off balance for most of the game.
COURTLAND 6, CULPEPER 5 (8) Jesse Belcastro knocked in Mike Shaw with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eight inning to give Courtland a 6–5 Battlefield District baseball win over Culpeper on Friday night. The Cougars (2–4, 1–0) led 4–0 before the visiting Blue Devils (0–3, 0–1) scored five times in the sixth inning to take the lead. With Courtland trailing 5–4 in the seventh, Nikko Burrell led off with an infield single before stealing second and third. Austin Ricketts then pushed him across for the tying run with a sac fly. On Tuesday, the Cougars visit Spotsylvania and Culpeper hosts Chancellor.

About

Local s
It might, but district play has just started. Anything can and often does happen. Yeah, as I posted earlier, I'm sort of surprised Spotsy defeated Caroline. Definitely didn't see that one coming.

Spotsy just might be the sleeper. Caroline, KG and EV are the preseason favorites, but that doesn't mean one of the others couldn't surprise a few people.
King George continues to roll:

King George 7 Eastern View 0.

Damion Carroll recorded 14 strikeouts enroute to a complete game shutout. Zack Kegly and Matthew Hunt led the Foxes with HR's. Zack had a 2 run shot in the 1st and Matthew followed with a solo home run in the 2nd.

KG hosts Louisa Wednesday and travels to Culpeper Friday.

A little over a quarter of the way through the district play, i would say chancellor is a complete surprise, what is going on there? Any predictions on POY year candidates, is anyone standing out? how about some discussions rather than just scores? I know carroll is wracking up k's in his W's and KG looks good but anyone else or how is carroll hitting.
Chancellor is having a rough year due to the following factors:

- Only 3 returning varsity players from last year and only one of them played full time. (Jason Morgan, Chris Barlow and Scott Macey)
- The other retuning starters who are not playing this year. (Ryan Greer knee injury from the basketbal season cannot play any sports until August, Michael Selbe decided to play golf this year, might return next year and A.J. removed from the team)
- The rest of the team is young and have very little experience.
- New coaching staff.

That been said we have had some close games with Caroline and King George both 3-0 losses, but at the same time they have been blown out. Definietly going through some growing pains this year.

Probably a little too early to start considering POY candidates just yet. All the teams still have 10 district games yet to play. Carrol has 51 K's in 4 appearances (3 starts) if my math is correct. But Damion is certainly in the running.

KG hosts Brooke Point Friday (doubleheader) and then it's all district games for the remainder of the schedule. I imagine it's the same for the rest of the Battlefield.
