As it stands now, the field is probably playable - probably a 50/50 chance. Not sure how much rain we received overnight. I don't think we got dumped on like northern VA. I'm more concerned with the 60% chance of thunderstorms forecast for this afternoon/evening. I will say the new field drains better than the old field that is now at the middle school (old high school).

The field drains pretty well. Only problem might be around 3B. Earlier this season there was a pretty good puddle 10 ft down the baseline towards home. But that was before 18 tons of fresh infield dirt was put down on the 1st/3rd base lines. In the past they've used a shop vac to remove water and get the field playable.

Still hard to tell though. I live near Dahlgren and my yard is wet but not soaked.

Good to hear I have enjoyed coming to games down there this year. Im sure it will be even better once construction on the football field is done. I do have a question for you? I heard a rumor that Damian had hurt his ankle or leg. Is that true because I am looking forward to a good game between Caroline and KG this time not a 10-0 game like a week ago. Caroline will have Beasley and Green back so it should be a close game like the first meeting. Of course thats even if they would throw Damian and try and get by with Dustin or Lex so save Damian for the championship game. I hope the weather holds off
Yeah, he was limping during the Courtland game and basically didn't play the JM game - one at bat and it was more or less an intentional walk. From what I heard he hurt it playing basketball.

I can't see "saving" him unless his ankle is that bad. However, Dustin did fairly well against Caroline - kept them off the board for 4 innings before giving up 2 runs in the 5th. KG just did not do a good job hitting that day.

Even though no team will be eliminated in the first game, the winners will at least guarantee a regional spot. I think you have to approach tonight's game like there is no tomorrow. At least that's how I look at it.
I AGREE FOXDAD,
BECAUSE IF SPOTSY BEATS EASTERN VIEW THEN CAROLINE OR KING GEORGE WOULD NEED TO WIN THERE MATCH-UP OR THE THIRD PLACE GAME TO GET IN. BUT IF SPOTSY LAYS A EGG AGAINST EV SINCE THEY ARE ALREADY IN, IT IS WIN OR GO HOME. IM NOT SAYING THAT SPOTSY WOULD THROW THEIR GAME THOUGH IM SURE SPOTSY WOULD LIKE TO WIN EVERYTHING SINCE THERE WAS A THREE WAY TIE.

ANYONE HAVE ANY NEWS ON THE GAMES YET THE SUN IS SHINNING UP HERE IN FREDERICKSBURG
I've been checking the King George High School website and currently the games are a "go". Sun is shining and everything is drying up. The only question is will any popup thunderstorms develop late this afternoon. Weather.com radar shows a storm cell well to the south just north of Richmond and another cluster west of Staunton drifting directly towards the Fredericksburg area.

Unless I'm mistaken, no team has locked a regional berth. I was told the regionals will be decided by the tournament.

explyr- that is correct, i have heard by many of reliable sources tournament decides it all, who ever wins between KG and EV will host a regional and loser will be the #2 seed, and winner between Car and spotsy will be #3 seed.

I am hearing all kind of conflicting reports on who will play which seed from which region does anyone know who will play who in the region...

By the way it was a great first round of playoffs and look forward to thursday, barring weather and good job to the KG coaches and AD for getting the field ready it was alot of rain that dumped down.
York (18-2 district) faces Grafton (18-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the championship game at York. The winner will be the district's No. 1 seed into the regional and the loser the No. 2 seed, while Warhill (17-3) is No. 3.

So if KG beats eastern view we will play warhill
loser will play either Grafton or York
Winner or the caroline Spotsy game may be the real winner in the regionals because they tell me that the southside district is weak this year Thats what one of the legion coaches from williamsburg told me.
They will play either southside or parkview

I do not know anything for sure. But everyone I have talked to the winner of the King George/ EV game will get Grafton or York. Now the winner of the Caroline/ Spotsy game will play someone from the Piedemont district. But I do not know anything for sure just what I have heard listening and talking to people

3up-3down You are incorrect. Spotsy is not IN to regionals. They have to beat Caroline to get in. The only two teams that are in are King George and Eastern View.
There was a Three way tie for First place so that is why they did not get the automatic bid

Correct. No team earned an automatic regional berth due to the three way tie for first. Spotsy is not "IN" and will have to defeat Caroline to get "IN". The three team's records amongst themselves was used to set the seedings for the district tournament, not to award the regular season championship. All three schools are considered "co-champions" and the tournament will decide the district champion.
Spotsylvania 6 Caroline 1
King George 6 Eastern View 5 (8 innings)

Wow! What a well played game.

EV went up early 1-0 on a bases loaded walk. KG responded in the 2nd with a HR by Tyler "Tilow" Truslow in the 2nd. EV went up 5-1 in the 4th plating 4 runs. KG scored 3 in the 5th - 2 on a 2 run blast over the left center fence by Damien Carroll to cut it to 4-5 (EV). The next inning and a half was good defense by both teams. In the bottom of the 7th with two outs EV intentionally walked Damien. Damien then stole second. With the count 2-2 Dylan Dombrowskas ripped a line drive down the left field line for 1 run double tying the game at 5-5. EV went 1-2-3 in the top of the 8th. Bottom 8th Truslow reached on a single. With one out Hunley hit a hard hit ball that hit off the rubber and the 2nd baseman could not handle which scored Steven Jenkins (courtesy runner for Truslow) for the win and the Battlefield Championship.

Congrats to the Foxes. A very good team effort. Hats off to the Cyclones for a very good game.

Battlefield Baseball: Late rally nets Foxes a crown
KING GEORGE SURGES PAST EASTERN VIEW
IN BATTLEFIELD DISTRICT BASEBALL TITLE GAME

Down to their last out, the Foxes tied the game on a double to left field by Dylan Dombrowskas, then pulled out a 6–5 victory in the bottom of the eighth on an infield hit by Cody Bell.

In addition to the district title, the win earned King George (18–3) a home game against Warhill in Monday’s Region I quarterfinals.

Eastern View (12–10) will also be in action. The Cyclones will travel to York on the same day.

Eastern View built a a 5–2 lead after three innings. The Cyclones scored four times in the fourth and rode the strong pitching of freshman A.J. Stead to the early lead.

But King George kept chipping away at the deficit and finally pulled even in the seventh. The Foxes made their comeback behind the pitching duo of Dustin Phillips and Lex Estes, and also went deep twice to spark the comeback.

Catcher Tyler Truslow and designated hitter Damion Carroll both smacked home runs to key the rally. Carroll’s blast came in the fifth and scored David Hunt to make it 5–4.

In the seventh, Carroll walked, stole second and scored to tie the game after Dombrowskas ripped a line drive to the left field corner.

After Estes shut down the side in the top of the eighth, the Foxes got the winning run when Truslow singled and courtesy runner Stephen Jenkins moved to second on a bunt by Matthew Hunt, stole third and then scored the winning run on Bell’s grounder up the middle.

Eastern View 10 40 00 00 5 8 2
King George 01 01 20 11 6 6 2

A.J. Stead, Tanner May (7), BEN PITTMAN (8) and Pittman, Austin Huff (8).
Dustin Phillips, LEX ESTES (6) and Tyler Truslow.

CONSOLATION GAME
Spotsylvania 6, Caroline 1

Spotylvania captured its first regional playoff berth in three years with a 6–1 victory over Caroline.

The Knights (15–7) broke open a close game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Second baseman Lucas Weaver went 2 for 4 and scored two runs.

Jacob King went the distance, limiting the Cavaliers to two hits while striking out seven.

Sean Pico struck out eight for the Cavaliers, who finished the season at 15–5.

“It’s great to be going back into the playoffs,” said Spotsylvania coach Ryan Davenport. “Jacob King threw a great game. We couldn’t have played better defensively.”

The Knights will visit Southampton for a Region I quarterfinal contest on Monday.

Caroline 0001 000 1 2 2
Spotsylvania 1001 04x 6 8 0
SEAN PICO, Joe Shiflett (6) and Will Shiflett. JACOB KING and Tommy Houck.
All i can say is WHAT A GAME, the EV/KG game might have been one of the better HS baseball games i have seen in a while, both teams gave it all they had, I can't believe it, KG down to their last out, EV 1 strike away from another district title, dombrowskas, the hit of the year, WOW way to come up big on what looked like a down and away pitch, great hit. Man what a game, that Freshman pitcher for EV he is going to be good, hopefully he can continue to work hard and maybe his senior year we will have talks about him like we have about damian. Good luck to both teams in regionals, i think the battlefield is represented well.

Is that correct? The Eastern View coach intentionally walked the tying run in the 7th inning with 2 outs? If so, what was he thinking?

As Damien came to bat, the EV coach visited the mound. When play resumed the EV pitcher was pitching all around the zone. The first two pitches were no where near the strike zone. Didn't want to give Damien anything good to hit since he had blasted one out in the 5th. Third pitch was pitch out (or close to it) and the last one was a lob well outside. It was obvious they didn't want to take any chances.

Only problem with this strategy is Dombrowskas is a very good clutch hitter (batting average .400+) though he had struggled in this game (walk, groundout, flyout to CF). He also was riding a 13 game hit streak. I haven't had a chance to view the video (my wife videos all the games), but the way Dylan pulled it down the line it almost had to be a an inside pitch.
Regional Schedule

Warhill (18-4) at King George (19-3), 1 p.m.

Spotsylvania (15-7) at Southampton (15-3), 1 p.m.

Park View (10-7) at Grafton (21-2), 5 p.m.

Eastern View (12-10) at York (18-3), 2 p.m.

SEMIFINALS ON WEDNESDAY

Warhill-King George winner vs. Spotsylvania-Southampton winner

Park View-Grafton winner vs. Eastern View-York winner

I've review the video and it was an inside pitch that began to tail away towards the middle and Dylan was all over it. He couldn't have asked for a better pitch. It was right in his power zone.
Did anyone find it offensive as I did that Tee Beasley and Zach Zelenick were left off the All Battlefield Teams? I understand they may have had some off the field issue but their accomplishments on the field were first team all district. Zelenick's 4 for 4 against Carroll was one of the biggest highlights of the season. Most teams didn't get 4 hits again Damien.
I do not find it offensive at all either. I agree if they could not keep there off the field issues in check then why should they receive the honors of the all district team. In my personal beliefs I am more shocked that Joe Shifflet only received a Honorable Mention. He finished the season with a ERA. of 0.235 the only earned runs he gave up all year were to King George. Other than that well played season all around

What I am about to say is not directed at any individual ball player it is about gutless coaches who cannot see pass their own nose and do the right thing. As with anything subject to personnel opinions like coaches voting for ALL District Players chips are worn on shoulders and feelings on sleeves so the outcome is flawed at best. It is very obvious that some of the district coaches stacked the chips against Caroline players and Coach Dow. At the time the votes were cast (prior to the district tournament) the season just ended and three teams tied for first with 11-3 records. There is no way what so ever that Caroline should have only had one player on 1st Team and 2 Players on 2nd team. Grant you this that any player that missed games due to personal misconduct on or off the field should not be voted on an all district team no matter what. The District coaches should be ashamed and especially the coach that came in that meeting and said "they would not vote for any Caroline players" (yes we heard about it) made it very obvious this year that their voting isn't worth the paper their votes are written on and should only be used in their outhouse since they have not yet come into the 21st century.

Congrats to the Foxes for a great season and good luck today in your first game of the regional tournament.
I agree Joe shifflet should have been first team. very talented with a great demeanor on the mound.
