No denying it, Krak Jr has had a rough, rough freshman year. Coming from overseas (having basically grown up abroad), he has struggled just to find his place in his own country! It's hard to describe, but so many overseas 'brat' kids face some real challenges re-adjusting. This has affected schoolwork, baseball, social life.....everything! However, he's always game, always learning, always trying to find his niche and is already excited about his soph roommate situation, course selections, and of course baseball. Once all the pieces fall into place, he'll be good to go!

Just wanted to update my friends here at the HSBBW who've asked so often how he's doing. Thank you.

KRAK
Krak,

I wish the best for your son. I imagine that would be a tough adjustment. Ill add him to my prayer list. College baseball alone is a big adjustment. Its a lot tougher than people realize that have not been down that road.School work, practice, games, travel, its a lot. I Hope things turn aroind and he finds his niche.
Congrats to All!

Cad-Dad, Sorry I didn't get to see you at the Service Academy Tournament. I was literally hit by a truck, that ran a red light, as I was on my way to Opening Day game at USA Stadium. I spent a few days in the hospital, I'm still recuperating at home and thankful to be here at all. I have not been able to see my son play yet but I'm thankful for the computer and radio coverage.

Son had a great opportunity this week. He took the mound in relief of an injured starter in the 1st and pitched into the 6th inning allowing No runs and 4 Ks against Ole Miss. There were 5 freshmen playing, the entire infield were freshmen except for the shortstop. Although the team lost the game in extra innings, they are showing great improvement each day.

Still Learning - Thank God! I was wondering what happened and why you were not posting. Your son is having a very fine year. I am certain that must be helping the recovery process! God Bless!
This is just my first blush opinion but seems to me the whole point of going the JC route is to get to a D1 program you want to play for (unless you want go pro right away.)

So if you son is getting interest/eventual offers from D1 programs he would want to play for, why would he turn them down?

And congratulations! 5 HR's already is terrific!

While I somewhat agree with the above, here's another thought. Isn't the next signing period next week?

Are they going to make an offer now, or are they going to wait until after the draft, towards the summer? Don't let anyone rush your son into a quick decision.

What are their plans for your son? Most JUCO players come ready to play after two years, will your son lose playing time sitting on the bench as a sophmore or could he get in more playing time at JUCO.

These are some things that should be discussed with the JUCO coach, he has more experience in this than we do.

Would be good to seek out info from other parents whose sons only played one year in JUCO then transfered to D1. How did it work out?

Also if your son is serious about going pro and does well, he can be drafted this year and next.

Lots of things to think about and discuss.

....Some very big names on this list, including Strasburg, Arrietta, and Tony Gwynn's kid. OfcrKID#1 never got a lot of "atta boys" while at Air Force, mostly due to a 4 year record of 33 and 174.

Im with Rob on this one. Why stay another year if they want him now? What would be the benefit of staying another year? What if he doesnt have a great second year at the JUCO and the offers dont come?

You don't really have to decide for a month or so. Don't rush the decision one way or the other, the choice maybe clearer a month from now. As the JC season will end before the D1 season I'd recomend that your son take the official trips to the school's he's interested in to watch them practice, play and the coach interaction with players, plus its helps to get a feel for the academic support etc. One thing you can do while talking to the d1 coaches is to discuss summer teams. One of them might be able to get your son into a good league wherther to goes to their school or not.

btw If there's interest now, there will be interest next month, during the summer and in the fallSmile If you son stays to play at the JC next year it probebly won't matter if he plays bad as he likely will have accepted an offer by then.

You bring up a valid point, it may well be that FOG son is a consideration for November signing, when most JUCO players get offers..is this correct?

This would make sense, as it gives him time to consider options and make visits.

Honestly I don't know when most JC players get their offers, however if you are standout player you should not worry much about signing at the begining of a signing period. I don't think he has to wait until November to sign. Many D1's are not done figuring out exactly what they need next year.
Collegeparent,

Thanks, I am enjoying and benefiting from all your thoughs and opinions. Observer44 has also sent me great words of wisdom as usual.(very good writer, and a great thinker). Anyway I am spending the actual day with my son tomorrow so we will have some time to talk about things without interruptions.
I think its hard to make a decision until he decides he wants to leave JC after a year, some 4 year schools like to get JC players after a year.
He is not going to rush into anything, God is in control and I want him to really look at the options and be happy with his decision.
Also I think if he tells his coach he may want to leave after a year depending on situation then we will know who is really after him.( we know some)
Anyway none of this whole process has been easy, ever for us, I am grateful that my son who has worked so hard to become a player that is even worthy of attention from more than 1 D1 school. This is a good thing and I want him to enjoy the process and not stress. I want him to enjoy the rest of this season and into playoffs(hopefully).
He has made some great friends who will all be gone next year as they are mostly two years older than my son.it will be a different team next year if he stays. a few guys that are redshirt freshmen will be back.
Again thanks for all the thoughts, I really appreciate you guys. best of luck with all your sons , hope they are having a great season. we go to Visalia for spring break and play some teams from that area. its my 50th on Thursday and I will be watching my son play. cant think of a better way to spend my birthday.
Well here is my downer. It's been a tough season offensively for Joe. He has been solid behind the dish and working hard. He was looking forward to the CPL this summer and with one pitch yesterday, lots of uncertainty. He's headed for X-rays on the his hand, in the pinky knuckle area that they feel is fractured. OH WELL !!

Ugh, can't we just get some over sized bubble wrap for them all.

Keep us posted.
Kid Victory has been having a good freshman year at SMCM.
His most important stat is leading the team in GPA (3.8) which makes mom and dad happy.

The team has been inconsistent, resulting in a .500 record.

Coming mostly out of the bullpen, Michael is 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings pitched. 5Ks and 0 walks.

It's tough having him be 500 miles away but he texts us immediately after games and always calls later to discuss the games. We hope to drive from MA to Dover, DE to see him play at Wesley College this weekend. Smile

Thanks for listening,
CV
