Now that is a strong tournament right there.

That is correct.

And DBAT Mustangs-Carpenter picked up Dylan Bundy and Archie Bradley from DBAT Mustang-Guthrie. Kept it in the family, and it doesn't hurt that both throw hard... Wink

That is too bad, things change, I guess. I might be mistaken but both Vernon Wells and Choo Freeman
played with the Mustangs the summer they were drafted in Round 1 ( Wells) and round 1A for Freeman. I guess there is a difference among the
"advisors" ( agents) that each player uses in these situations.

Any unsigned player COULD play, but agents won't let them.
Farmington Readies For Connie Mack Series
http://www.koat.com/news/20309652/detail.html

A Farmington tradition is back this weekend.

The Connie Mack World Series is gearing up for the best amateur baseball has to offer.

Mike McKinney, the chairman of the Connie Mack World Series, said, "It's almost like a three ring circus, it just gets bigger and better every year."

Stands will be filled with baseball fans Friday evening for the series.

This is the 45th consecutive year Farmington will host the event.

On the field will be some of youth baseball's best.

Carol May, with the Farmington Parks and Recreation Department, said, "We have nine teams that will come from out of town, so that's 180 players, and then they'll bring family and coaches and friends and supporters."

The team rosters are made up of players between 16 and 18 years old, and the teams come from all over.

"Probably Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico or New York, I'm not sure mileage-wise which one would be farther," May said.

Organizers said some big league scouts will be in attendance at the Connie Mack World Series, so those heading to the games may be able to see a future major leaguer.

May said, "We've had a lot of people who've played: Mica Owings, Ken Griffey, Jr. are probably one of the more renowned names and a lot of the Bell brothers."

On Friday evening, when the stands are packed, spectators can see the next generation of baseball stars take the field.

The first game is at 5:15 p.m. at Rickett's Park between the Bayamon Giants and the Dallas Tigers.

Only general admission seats are available, and they can be picked up at the park's ticket booth one hour before the game.

Connie Mack players' arrival proves a spectacle

Buses full of players arrived at the Civic Center throughout the afternoon Thursday. They were flanked by police escorts blaring their sirens to announce the teams' arrival.

Swarms of children and their parents waited patiently for their favorite, and often late, teams to appear. When they finally showed, the jubilant fans rushed the bus as if it was carrying a celebrity professional team.

Many fans held fancy posters adorned with the names of their teams or players of choice. Team apparel was everywhere, and the fans cheered when each player stepped off the bus.

The scene escalated when fan favorites such as the Florida Legends arrived.

"It's awesome," said Legends catcher Shane Rowland, echoing several of his teammates.

The Dallas DBAT Mustangs, who were absent from last year's tournament, maintain a solid following. Their welcoming committee was every bit as boisterous as the host Four Corners Thunder's.

"It's nuts. It's different than anything I've ever seen. Everyone's just so welcoming," said Mustangs pitcher Jake Feckley.

The players unloaded their gear before dancers from the Piedra Vista High School Panteraz or the camo-clad Farmington High School Kelly Greens escorted them to the Civic Center's outdoor amphitheater.

There, the dance teams performed their annual welcoming dance. The players then walked into the Civic Center for official registration, orientation and to view samples of the abundant merchandise for sale, including shirts and hats representing each team.

The teams showcased unique mentalities upon their arrival. The Legends showed up in matching polo shirts tucked into khaki pants, emphasizing that they're all business, while the Illinois Sparks relaxed in gym clothes. The other teams were dressed in everything in between.

Depending on how late they were, many buses stopped by Ricketts Park on their way into Farmington. The 5,000-seat venue is large compared with the stadiums in which most of the youth are used to playing.

"It's pretty special," said Abel Baker, catcher for the Mustangs.

The joint Connie Mack World Series and San Juan County Fair parade begins at 11:30 a.m. today. The floats will line up at the intersection of Vine Avenue and Main Street and roll through downtown for about an hour.

The tournament officially begins tonight, with games scheduled at 5:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Ricketts Park. Opening ceremonies will take place between the two games.

The host team Thunder makes its World Series debut in the late game.

Not really. DBAT Carpenter drew last year's Regional Champion (Houston Miracles) in the first game. But don't let the facts change a great story.

Regardless, you have to beat most of them to win it anyway, right? So what difference does it make? If you play the tough teams early and survive, Rule 211 keeps you from playing them again until late.

I was talking about the round 3 bye. Why so grumpy?

Four other teams with byes over the first three rounds, but I realize Sam is an easy target.

Grumpy because I am not there to watch my son.

Very tough loss tonight for DBAT Carpenter tonight against the Florida Legends. Hopefully the boys will get it going Sunday.

Tx Husker, you can celebrate the DBAT loss now.

You clearly have me confused with someone else. Quit trying to pick a fight as I'm not taking the bait. I have not made any derogatory remarks about Dbat. Tough first game but it's double elimination.
