A team from Australia came out and toured our area and played some baseball here last summer.  One of the young men will be starting college next fall and hopes to come to the states and play college ball.

He is not a stud but a decent player.  He has not had any communication with colleges.  He has good grades but doesn't know what he wants to major in yet.  He is planning on coming back and playing somewhere this coming summer.  He likes California but is open to playing anywhere.

Obviously, he is behind in the process and at a geographical disadvantage.  What advice would you give and are there any "last chance" showcases that occur late Spring or Summer?  I don't believe a high-academic and/or expensive private school is the target but he seems open to anything else.

Josh Spence former star at ASU is from Australia. He went to ASU's baseball camp after finishing high school in Australia. Then Coach Pat Murphy thought he was better suited for JUCO and Spence ended up at Central Arizona CC. He played a couple years at Central Az and ASU picked him up for his last 2 years.Good pitcher who developed into a very good pitcher at Central AZ and had a fantastic run at ASU.He played for The Padres and in typical Padre style they released him even though he was their most effective reliever at one point. He's in the Yankee farm system now.

I would suggest for him to look at JUCO's here in SoCal. The weather is similar to Australia and some of the better ones like Palomar CC have good coaches with a history of developing players and helping them move up to D1 D2 & NAIA.
