FD, don't let farmerdad try to get to you he is in the minority. We all enjoy the insight/perspective that only you as a HS coach can give. Also, I would have approached this forum the same "by not mentioning my players as well" due to the fact it would make people thing I was banging my own drum. I think it great that you can list players on other teams and give them props, which says a lot about you character of a person and coach. I have had the privledge of coaching select ball for over 10 years and have heard nothing but good things about you and your program, I even have several boys that will be playing for you this fall as freshman. That being my two cents worth, I am not bias because my son will be playing for LHS this spring. Good luck this year and hope to meet you on the diamond.

That being said, who are the players to watch this year? (No Freshman) I've always found this to be a much more productive conversation than predictions.

Big Red,

How did the Freshmen that reportedly played varsity last year do?

  • Cole Fiola - Denton - Guyer HS (5-5A)
  • Caleb Hambrick - Cedar Hill - Cedar Hill HS (7-5A)
  • Hunter Courson - Garland - Naaman Forest (10-5A)
  • Colin Sherrod - Garland - Naaman Forest (10-5A)
  • Brett Byrum - Rowlett - Rowlett HS (10-5A)
  • Chance Markray - Garland - South Garland HS (10-5A)

  • Anthony Hermalyn - McKinney - McKinney HS (9-4A)
  • Jovan Hernandez - Rockwall - Heath HS (10-4A)
  • Jake Thompson - Rockwall - Heath HS (10-4A)
  • Steven Bean - Rockwall - Rockwall HS (10-4A)
  • Spencer Edwards - Rockwall - Rockwall HS (10-4A)
  • Dane Evans - Sanger - Sanger HS (9-3A)
  • Cody Breest - Fischer - Canyon Lake HS (30-3A)
  • ?? Blackmore - Wimberley - Wimberley HS (30-3A)
  • ?? Grey - Wimberley - Wimberley HS (30-3A)
  • ?? McRoberts - Wimberley - Wimberley HS (30-3A)
  • Dalton Brown - Ponder - Ponder HS (10-2A)
  • Jared Pruett - Grapevine - Faith Christian (TAPPS 5A-1)

TexasBoy2011 - District 10-2A gets a nod from Houston.

I didn't mean to insinuate that freshman can't produce at the varsity level, just that discussions discussions about freshman on this forum invariably turn into daddy-plugs and snow ball fights. For what it's worth, I was only familiar with a few (4) names on that list.
I would like it noted that I have met and talked to funneldrill in person and have nothing but respect for him. He is a good source of knowledge on high school baseball. I don't want to be confused with the new person using the "FarmerDad" (no space) display name.
While we all have our predictions and hope they are accurate nobody will know how good the teams are until the end of the season.

Sorry Farmer Dad,I had no idea the name was taken, I will try to get it changed. See you at LHS in the spring.

I guess because no one answered there is no love for 9-5A.

It will be a dog fight between Berkner, Lake Highlands, Creekview, WT White, Richardson and don't be surprised if Skyline is much improved this year!

WT White will have to be the front runner. (til someone knocks the out of the top spot)
New farmerdad,

I have temporarily added "2009" at the end of your screen name (making it farmerdad_2009) to avoid confusion with long-time member and respectful poaster, Farmer Dad.

Please send me a PM (or an email at hsbaseballweb@comcast.net) to discuss what screen name you would like to use longer term. (I need to make that change for you.)

Also while I've got your attention...

Based on some of your posts in this thread, you should probably take another look at our Board Manners page.

I agree that these 3 will have the upperhand, but who will be there for the fourth spot?

I notice that your posting from Wylie, but I'll put my money on East. Remember last year?

Last year was last year. Not sure what Wylie will pull out of it's Pirate hat this year. East will be good but don't be surprised if McBoyd is around at the end.
Texas Rankings are always fun to look at...they don't mean a whole lot, but they are always attention grabbers. Maxpreps has 4 each 6-5A schools in the top rankings in Texas. They are as follows:

#6 Flower Mound High
#10 Flower Mound Marcus
#12 Coppell
#21 Southlake Carrol

It will be another great year of baseball in 6-5A! Flower Mound High not only plays the other highly ranked teams in 6-5A, but also the #3 (College Park), #5 (The Woodlands), & #7 (Georgetown) ranked teams in their Woodlands tournament to start their season.
Looking forward to a new season! 10-5A - Rowlett will still be very strong. I know they lost some seniors, but they are pretty stacked with players moving up and juniors that are now seniors.
Who will stand out for them?

How about Sacshe and Lakeview? Any thoughts on these teams?

Naaman Forest - they lost 10 seniors, but heard there is some talent coming on that was waiting in the wings. South Garland will have Craig Hayes. Who are their top pitchers? Opinions....
District 6-5A has some major talent yet again, many talented players. At Southlake, I would say watch O'Conner, he is an absolute stud. Meanwhile, there is lots of talent in the underclassman at both FM Marcus and Flower Mound. At Flomo, watch Gunther, a power hitting flame throwing sophmore along with a hard throwing senior Shane Henderson. At FM Marcus, watch Seniors Brode Boyd and Doug Votolato, Junior Michael Gill, along with two sophmore pitchers i saw throw this fall.

Red Oak has an extremely good 2012 class.

FM Marcus has the top 2012 Class in the DFW Area if not the entire state, and Flower Mound is equal to them. My friends son played in the Metro Scout league, FM Marcus had a 16U player who was rated 3rd best in the are and played with the 18U's also. But many Flomo kids also played in that league, but non matched up to the 6'5" soph from Marcus.

The only 6'5" soph from Marcus did not play in the 18U MSL. I'll agree with you that both schools had an outstanding 2012 group. I'm not sure if any of them will make a big impact on their Varsity teams this upcoming season. Both programs are so talented it is hard for a soph to break through the way Gill did last year for Marcus.
[QUOTE]The only 6'5" soph from Marcus did not play in the 18U MSL.QUOTE]

He played the very last week on the team in orange jersey's, just played 1B did not pitch though. At the 16U level he dominated the hitting, with a power display in the next to last game by taking a 3-0 fast ball that was at his eyes over the wall in right center, one of his 3 home runs. I saw him pitch and brought my Jugs gun and he was 84-86 every fastball the inning I gunned, including 2 K's and a pop up. But of course you cant compare this kid to michael gill, completely different style of player, and Gill is an extremely talented player that you can't compare his sophmore season to someone who hasnt even played yet.
If he is swinging at bad pitches just because scouts are there he won't mean much to the TEAM at this level and especially the next.
All elite players today play in front of scouts. The ones that can put TEAM first are the ones the coaches at the next level desire. You see once you get beyond high school that there are many that can hit a ball at their eyes over the fence from time to time. But if they make a habit of attempting it too much, especially to try and impress the scouts watching, they end up on the bench.

Metro Scout League isnt a TEAM league, its a showcase league where you show what you can do, score doesnt matter its all about the player. I doubt that he would have swung at a 3-0 pitch in high school or while playing on a team where the TEAM was first. Because as disciplined as FD's teams are he wouldnt put up with it.

Sorry to step on your toes rhino!!! Hope my edit meets your approval...even though it was correct and not any attack on any kid as you put it. He was a good player for four years but, IMO, he played out of position the last two and it showed defensively which also hurt his offensive numbers. I hope he is doing well.

More importantly, I left off one huge position and that was at first base which needs to be replaced. Several candidates for this one but the DH from last year also saw time at first and should be the leading candidate as his bat was great last season.
