Former Hendrix player and assistant coach, and HSBBW poster, DBL2THEGAP, has just been named the Head Coach of his alma mater, Hendrix College in Conway, Ark.
I have never met Neil Groat. My very first communications with him were on the HSBBW, after Neil and our son had completed 4 years of competing against each other. Those years were not particularly kind in terms of the game results for Hendrix. However, Neil always played the game hard and the right way. He also was very complementary of those who competed against him and who played the game the right way.
In 2009, I posted on the site about an amazing season where Hendrix reached the NCAA Regionals. What a wonderful story and season that was for Neil and those who knew the progress his school and team had made since 2004. The players given credit for that 2009 season were largely the results of Neil's recruiting efforts which went coast to coast and somewhat emulated the success he had seen and learned from Coach Scannell at Trinity U in San Antonio.
Now, DBL2THEGAP has been named the new Head Coach of Hendrix College.
I wish Neil the very best. From what I can tell and everything our son and the Trinity coaches have said about Neil, he has done everything the right way and has earned this opportunity.

This is terrific news! Congratulations to Neil.

I don't know him, but two years ago I had asked this board about Hendrix College because my daughter was considering going there to play softball. His father, also a hsbbw member, had called me and we talked for hours about Hendrix, his son, and all sorts of other stuff. I think that Neil, as the college recruiter, called my daughter to answer questions about the school. He could not have been more professional and helpful. Both father and son were proud of Hendrix College and were delighted to share their enthusiasm with me and my daughter. I am very happy for Neil and Ted. Congratulations again!
Regardless of how good the Hendrix team was year to year all of the Trinity players that I have talked to loved to go up there and experience the hospitality of their fans as well as knowing that you had to play your best ball to take a home series from Hendrix as they are always difficult to beat on their home turf.

I am sure Neil will continue this tradition. Congrats and best of luck!
