We're considering building a heated building for our community program and our HS Baseball & Softball teams. We've got building plans and think we can fund it. I'm curious if anyone has something like this at their school. We're looking at 50 x 80 with 2 cages and 2 mounds/throwing lanes. If anyone has something like this or was involved in building one, could you provide some pics...and could I contact you to discuss our plans...and hear any issues you had/have with your place. Thanks

Build a hockey arena--you add two sports, then you can use it in the spring and for indoor s****r in the fall.

Contrary to the road sign, this just may be the right way to go for you guys Buckeye! Our abandoned old Chicago Main Post Office features nine stories, 2.5 million square feet, and an untold number of rolling tubs overflowing with misplaced letters. Relatively low ceilings though...grounders or line shots only. Close to transportation...heck it straddles the Ike Expressway, METRA® commuter tracks, and Amtrak® too! Ahh...the aroma! How divine? Smells like a million lawsuits!

Make Rahm an offer that he can't refuse...and then rent a few thousand Ryder® trucks. You know the type...those newfangled 'electric' ones. That'll make many wag-giddy-wags and super-sized pols very happy...and make their burgeoning pockets pleasantly plump. Their tailors on retainer will be working double time stitching and grafting yards of imported fabric onto their bosses' dandy duds. Urban sprawl in Chicago is limited strictly to our fat cats' pockets! And oh...don't forget your extension cords. It's a long ways back driving the Tri-State Tollway® to Toledo or wherever. Not too many opportunities to recharge along the route...Governor Daniels' Northern Indiana 'Electric Haven' has shorted out before it could arc off the ground. Wander to the outlet in Shipshewana? No way! Watt was he thinking?

Our gargantuan concrete anchor of a Postal facility was scheduled to be the dormitory for all of the G-8 security, but somehow or other that gig is now going to camp down at David. Our Chicago "Seventh Wonder What the He11 We're Gonna' Do With It?" is just screaming to be a bonanza for you Buckeyes don't ya' think? We'll throw in a roll of quarters for the toll if that'll help.

Wink

FF - again, what kind of ballpark $$ are we talking about (if you know) for a structure that is big enough for, say, two full length hitting tunnels and a pitching tunnel? Perhaps 80'L x 40'W x 20'H? I'm interested in exploring this, but I have to be realistic about what kind of money we can raise.

I think it is a mistake for companies like this to not post any information about pricing on their website - my first reaction is to assume that it isn't affordable and I won't call to ask. Give me SOMETHING to decide whether it is going to be affordable enough to spend some time researching it.... Am I wrong to think that way?

Go to the batting dome one that jazzmik posted above. Then click on the fundraising tab to see how they suggest a group pays for their building. You will get a good chuckle out of it - I know I did.

This isn't a criticism of the website because I've never used them and it does seem like they have some good stuff to sell. I'm like you in that I automatically think we can't afford it so I skip over it but I saw the fundraising tab and laughed.

Yeah, I saw that too, and it did make me chuckle a bit. If it were that easy, we'd already HAVE a facility....

jazzmik, that is a nice option. Does your / your kid's school have one of these? What is the apprx cost?

No our school doesn't have one. I had also sent the link to our HS coach during the fall and he sent them an email but don't think he ever got a response. Didn't follow up because it's not in the budget now.

I would say they are probably in the 30-50K range (total guess on my part). Plus I think you have to contract someone to build/put together. They supply the parts and blueprints.

But they are pretty nice if you can get the funding for them.

If you contact them please post the cost here if you don't mind.

BigTop is a client of mine and I just spoke with their national sales director, GW. I have provided the quoted price which is accurate. For more information call him directly at BigTop, they are GREAT folks!

It would cost about $5000 for their on the ground consultant to assist YOUR team in assembling the structure which should take 4 days. HOWEVER, he felt that you guys could handle putting it up without them needing to be on the ground with you.
