I agree - I think it was Pujols who almost killed a kid and Dusty or Joe were on caught on air "yelling" a warning to the little kid. If I am not mistaken - which it was hard to tell because he hit the ball so hard the camera had a hard time keeping up with the ball - the linedrive bounced through the kid's legs.

Some of those kids look like they are in the early stages of Little League.

Let GOOD high school players out there to do that. They can pay attention and probably be athletic enough to get out of the way of the ones that are crushed.
I believe those kids are the kids that won the Pitch, Hit and Run Team Championship. My 8 year old made it all the way to play in SF (in June) to try and earn one of those spots. Scary thing is that he would have been hurt with those hits from the big guys. He has enough trouble catching them from Dad in practice. As a matter of fact, I think only my oldest could handle that. I know that 7 year olds can compete. Heck, even my 6 year old made it to sectionals (although I'd trust him more than the 8 yo Eek
I noticed the kids getting out of the way of catchable fly balls. Possibly they were instructed to get out of the way and not attempt to catch balls and just retrieve them safely on the ground.
I did see the kid that almost got hit. He wasn't paying attention.
What amazes me is that more peaple are not hurt when they jerk a laser foul into the stands.

what a country...!

Hey I love blonds at the ballpark. Big Grin
Agree with trojan-skipper,

Lots of kids almost got hit yesterday. What is MLB thinking....

One of these days, one of those kids will be taken off in a stretcher with a ball to the face when they misjudge a flyball.

Saw that last year with my 15 year old sons summer team. The opposing coach had his son trying to "catch" for him as he was hitting pregame infield. You could see that the kid, about 9-10 was unsure of himself catching the ball thrown from 1st and 3rd. Sure enough..glove up...misses ball and hits him in the face. Stretcher takes him to hospital.

Scary thing.
Just a couple of thoughts:
1.) Don't those children have parents who approved their being on the field? Isn't the primary responsibility at least shared?
2.) Does anyone think that MLB does not have signed, iron tight releases of all rights, drafted by the best lawyers in America, before the child steps on the field? Maybe I am naive?? If my assumption is correct, a parent would have to sign a release saying they would not sue for any injury while their child is on the field, and it appears several did actually sign them.
I'm watching the replay of the HR contest. After Chris Berman makes a comment about kids getting hurt, Dusty Baker says "my son wanted to go out there and I told him he wasn't old enough."

Wasn't it Dusty's kid that almost got clobbered at home plate in the middle of a play during the playoffs or World Series (just remember it was post season.)
