Local players' success in college

Sorry about the mis-info on the name of Tim's school.

I do know that it's a great baseball JC and Tim is doing very well.

Matt Wille, Crystal Lake - GLVC player of the week for Saint Joe's. 8-12 9 RBI, 2 walks, 3 doubles, 3 SB in 4 games. 3 games were against #3 rated division 2 team in the country, Montevallo, Alabama.


Great start for his career with the Puma's.

I'm always lurking here but seldom have the opportunity to post. It's nice to see someone actually remembers me!

Ryan is doing OK, thanks for asking. He was disappointed in his performance last year and is looking forward to hopefully a much better season this year. The weather has been pretty good for the most part but they did get snowed out last weekend at home vs. High Point University. TTU travels to Lexington, KY today for a weekend series against the Wildcats. This should be a good test to see how much TTU has improved.

Congrats to Larry on his pre-season accolades and good luck to he and the Flames this season!

Connor Powers, Benet Academy...2-4 with a double and 2-run home run for Mississippi State beating Murray State this afternoon.

Should be the 1st home run of many for CP at MSU.

Congrats, CP.

Connor is also starting at 3rd, batting .455 and added another HR(2) yesterday.

A friend of mine who graduated from Brooks pitches for Alcorn State.

You had to have expected this from connor. Anywhere he goes, he will win and perform well. Congrats Connor

He's stealing bases and playing solid in the OF.

Congratulations to former Notre Dame Don pitcher Mike Kloss . Kloss made his first college start today for North Central College against Webster ( Missouri) and had a two hitter going thru the 6th inning. North Central lost the game 4-0 but i heard Kloss pitched great considering North Central went on this trip without most of their starters due to suspensions.

Ryne White (Purdue) and Joe Dunnigan (Oklahoma) are off to solid starts.

Have to toot a few horns for local players playing at Bradley. Brad Altbach has pitched well as both a middle reliever and got a start Saturday afternoon against Arkansas State (he one bad inning). Ramie Hamdan from Shepard and has pitched a scoreless inning. Dan Brewer is hitting .348 through 7 games, Brian Porter has contributed on the mound and at the plate. Just a few of the local guys playing and contributing.

I believe the suspensions stem from some sort of minor hazing incident . Not sure if it was self imposed or otherwise .

Cole Livermore from St Charles east 2006 is getting regular starts for Northwestern with mixed results. I am curious if it is usual for a fresman pitcher to start so soon in college?

It was a minor hazing incident. I have a friend whose son is now a sophomore on the team, and he said it was much ado about nothing.

Mark Kelly Hoffman Estates siu, MVc player of the week goes 11-17 and is on a 9 game hitting streak. 5-6 and a run scrored with 3rbi against Tn Martin.

Kevin Carkeek St Viator plays at Oakland College was Mid Contenent PLayer of the week was 11-22 5 runs scored, 8 rbi 3 doubles and 2hr.

Pictures were found of North Central players "under-dressed" playing baseball and drinking....most of the kids were underage.....pictures were found from past years as well

Zack Tropp (woodstock) went 3-5 with his first homerun of his college career, he also added 2 doubles and I believe 5 RBI's....Concordia is off to a 2-1 start.

Zack is a great ball player and a great kid.....hopefully its the first of many!

Brandon Wycoff ILLINOIS freshman named to the All Tournament team this past weekend. He's started 6 games at 3B and is doing very well.

speaking of Illinois, I see Mike Giller is off to a very nice start too.

Mike is doing very well. He's my son's roommate and Mr Giller and I traveled down to Lafayette, LA to watch the opening series. Mike hit around .400 for the series and last weekend had 2 hits in the opener. He's been DH'ing against both righty's and lefty's. That says alot. he can swing it.

Craig Lutes had a base hit and 2 RBI's in his first college AB driving in Giller(single his first college AB) and my son (double).

Brandon has been a pleasant surprise for the Illini.

Billy Barrett got his first Collegiate win last weekend in Texas after a solid relief appearance in Louisiana. Kevin Manson another of the freshman has had 2 very good relief appearances.

Kyle Hudson (off the football field) has been off to the hottest start for the Illini.

Congrats to John Ely (Homewood Flossmoor, ('04), Miami of Ohio, pitched a 9 inning 7 hitter against the Texas Longhorns in Texas!

UIC barely lost to #1 Vandy 2-1…

Hinsdale Central’s Matt Weldon made his first appearance for the Flames facing 2 striking out one…

and Sandburg’s Mike Kaffel hit a home run for UIC’s only run.

UIC’s pitching holds the top ranked team to only two runs… Well done boys… good luck tomorrow!
