Oh, I know his HS -- and I wish him success with the "challenges" there. But will his August have an impact on his '06 summer team? Maybe you two should consider DBAT! Wow, did I type that????
This board is going to be DBat central it looks like.
quote:apologize that my comments appear as not being nice. My whole point is that loyalty seems to be a thing of the past, not just in baseball but in society as a whole. Again, I wish you and Curt luck, however, as stacked as you all will be that my wishing you luck really isn't necessary.
Select ball is not about loyalty. It is about showcasing to get to a college or getting seen for a potential draft situation. Coaches who wan a player and his parents to put the team ahead of the need to advance their agenda is fooling themselves. Frankly, to expect it is unrealistic. I am not passing judgement here, just pointing out the obvious. I never chose a team based on loyalty to a coach. I chose it to get my son seen. This is not the same as leaving the team for other events, but just as far as loyalty goes, it ends at the end of a season. jmo
Panther Dad,
Thanks for the wish of success for his high school team challenges. Believe me it is a real challenge. Maybe a change of venue is in order. Wow did I type that?
Concerning the 2006 summer team, yes it appears that his August will have an impact.

I agree with your point that "loyalty" goes from season to season. I do think (as you implied) that DURING the season a player should be loyal to his team. As my son is an ex-Dodger player left without a team for this fall and next summer it is obvious that no one should assume their situation will not change from season to season - whether they want it to or not.
This is very real to my son - he is in the middle of trying to find a team to play on next summer while he is trying to focus on football and a new school year.
Crawdad and others,
You're right with regards to loyalty. When you get to this level, you have to look out for what is best for your son. The one thing these mergers do is allow other teams to get stronger.
You might take a look at the Panthers or Patriots. Last I heard they haven't merged with anyone and are holding tryouts.

Not exactly true......
The Patriots merged with the Yard Rats/Bulls this year and the Panthers Merged with the Wizards a couple of years ago.

I think he means they haven't merged with anybody this year, yet.
More mergers than Wall Street.
KD, are you proud of what you started?
Since I didn't join until last Sept, got in kinda late to really enjoy post season rumor threads, how long can one of these threads go?

Until next summer.
Just heard that the Texas Blackhawks are merging their 16 & 18 teams with the East Texas Storm. Another Merger.......... Nope Just kidding with Baseballmom!
The East Texas Black Storm? Ummmm, is that pc? They threw out the Indian mascot and....well, never mind.
For those that don't mind the commute. The East Cobb Astros are having open tryouts this week-end.
Are the mergers due to 1)the fact that the cost of leagues and tourneys are so high or 2)the cost of facilities and coachs salaries are escalating or 3) is it possible the coaches/managers think there's a dilution of talent where they can't win with what they have or 4)something totally different?
baseballmom
Texas Blackhawks have 2 independent "parts", is the best way to explain it. One "part" is Ft. Worth (16U & 18U). The other is based out of Denton & is adding a 16U team. A couple players are from East Texas, but no merger in the works.

OK, I'm "clueless in Carrollton"!
Let me in on the joke!!

Wasn't speaking directly to the lastest merger mentioned, more of the mergers in general. Dodgers, Lowry, toss in Blackhawks if we need too. I'm just curious. I understand it's a business from the high side, but 4 years ago there was some loyalty expected, on the part of the coaches and the players.
SGDad,
As I see it, it's all about winning. Organizations will do what ever it takes to compete with the top level teams. And if they feel they are not able to do that, then they will dilute their talent among numerous teams and go after the all mighty dollar.

Is D~Bat starting a 14U team for Fall 2005 or Spring 2006? Any thoughts on the quality of coaches and players at tryouts??
