As we approach the National Signing Day on Wednesday, I wanted to say congratulations to all those that are fortunate enough to be signing, and also a big thank you to all the members on here.  What a valuable source of information, perspective, guidance, and understanding to those who are navigating this often winding road.  What an exciting and sometimes stressful journey this can be, often made easier with the wisdom/perspective of those members who are so kind to share their stories on here and willingness to help.  Congrats and thank you again!

Congrats in advance! Just remember, this is the first leg of the journey. The work is just beginning. The road is long and moves fast, fight to stay on track. Good luck to all!

This is so true.  The rest of your HS career will require work, and then when you get to school it will be even harder.  They may ask you to come to summer school and work with the trainers all summer.  Then you get to work through your first fall baseball.  It is a grind, but very enjoyable if you keep your nose to the grind, and your eye on the prize.  Good Luck to all of you!

Hopefully I can post some pics and news next year. Good luck and early congrats to those involved this year!

This whole thing is starting to get surreal and it really is crazy how fast time flies... trying to enjoy every moment still. Feels like my 2019 son was playing t-ball and coach pitch yesterday! Unlike bacdor, this is my only son to experience this with, so yea... my nerves will be shot this time next year to say the least.

Again, good luck and early congrats to all involved this year!

rookie..... its ok....

After a long and extremely eventful road , my 2018 will sign his NLI on Monday. He will sign at a ceremony at school along with some others from his team.  He has his hat ready for the event and has not stopped grinning all week.

We, of course, have made the obligatory college team gear purchases to show support. License tag frames, sweatshirts,  jackets,  key chain, and  tee shirts. The school store has tons of overpriced junk with their logo on them as well as the athletic online store, so I guess I will go broke before the boy leaves for college next year. Especially since my wife found out that Amazon has tons of designs and accessories that the school websites dont carry......

Next step  on the "journey".... He is working harder in the gym and in the cage now than ever before.  Maybe he gets it.......

Congratulations!!! And yes, you'll spend a small fortune on team gear.

Congratulations to all!!! So exciting!

Now, a display of my ignorance: aside from the studs, when do normal good players sign? Junior year? Senior year? Fall? Spring? Winter? Summer? I'm not talking about the super-humans that sign all extra early, talking about the average college-bound player? (Yes, I know it varies...but what's "normal" and when is it time to worry?"

Most of the 2018 players here in Colorado were making their verbals over the last month and signing on Wednesday. This is why I have a hard time not commenting when people suggest that players are behind/late if they have not committed by summer after junior season, at latest. Absolutely not true for most college baseball programs. As you noted, we are talking about players other then those that would sign with a Power 5 program. My math may not be spot on here but roughly 6% of HS players go on to play college baseball with approximately .02% signing with Power 5's. Long story short, if your son wants to play baseball and is not overly concerned with where, there will be options into the spring of senior year.

Good advice. The bolded part is the rub, though.

I 100% agree. There is no way my son would have chosen a school just for baseball. However, as a long-time high school football coach (with a couple of years spent coaching baseball), I see far more kids allowing the school to pick them then vice versa. I think the exception tends to be with players who have parents, like those who frequent these forums, that spend quality time learning about college baseball and the recruiting process. Even then, there should be numerous opportunities as long as parents/player are realistic about the players abilities.
