SEC football is just on another level. 7 National Championships should be enough proof in the pudding.

This is the SEC arrogance that turns people off. It's absurd. The best of the SEC are among the best in the country. The rest are just that, the rest of college football.

RJM....Im not being arrogant my friend.

But if you'll scroll up through some of the past posts you will quickly see that the SEC has been taken to the woodshed over a myriad of reasons.

Like Dizzy Dean said "It ain't bragging if you can back it up". I'll leave it at that.

I'll be the first to admit that this year the SEC was down more than normal. But at the end of the day the number 7 says all I need to say about the SEC and it's football.

I'll go out on a limb here (even as a lifelong ND fan), TR is absolutely correct.

Ditto. I haven't seen a team so completely outplayed in every aspect of offense AND defense in a very long time.

Deep down, I don't think anyone really believed ND was a better team than Alabama. Most of us were just hoping for a good game.

Oregon would have given Alabama a game. They would have spread the field out and attacked them with the speed ND doesn't have. It would have been a replay of the Texas A&M game.
I was hoping to see an Oregon v. SEC winner.

I think everyone was hoping for a good game, which would've been good for college football.

I'll derail everyting by the following comment:

Why not a 16 team playoff? Let them all line up and figure out who is truly the best? If you aren't in the top 16, should you really be there? If you survive the sweet sixteen, you deserve the trophy. INMO

I don't think that will happen in my lifetime. Maybe 10 years from now it will grow from 4 teams to 8. But what makes you think a playoff yields the best team? The team that's really the best in the country doesn't win the men's basketball tournament that often.
Speaking of announcers, lol, there needs to be some kind of age or mental aptitude test they need to pass annually in order to announce games.

Musburger, Tim Carver, Joe Morgan, Jimmy the Greek (just thought I'd throw this one in here if you can remember his claim to fame!), Lee Corso, etc etc.

It CAN'T be about the ratings keeping these guys around!

Perhaps replace them with more sideline reporters like Jenn Brown

If Oregon would be in the title game tonight Alabama would not have been there, would have been Oregon vs Nd. But I agree Oregon vs Alabam would have been more fun.

Bet that Oregon coach wishes he kicked that field goal early against Stanford.
For those, like me, that cringe every time "Wou" Holtz opens his mouth, and have listened to him babble and predict ND would be in the top 10 for the past 10 years only to see them play mediocre football for most of the past decade, and have listened to some of the ND faithful talk up their "academic standards" for years, although the SAT/GPA's for their freshman football admittees are pretty much on the norm with most major college football programs, thank you Alabama! Thank you, thank you, and rollllll Tide.

Now, unfortunately my beloved Hokies are the next scheduled opponent for said Tide, on national television, to open the 2013 fall season. That might get uglier than...well, ugly.

That was more than creepy. My kids and wife caught those comments as well. My kids said that ol' announcer guy is a creeper. My wife turned to ask me if I've ever heard an announcer comment on how beautiful someone's girlfriend or wife is in the stands or on the sidelines. I said "no" in 50 years of watching sports that was a first for me. I was picturing Kirk Herbstreit cringing in the booth with creepy Brent after his comment.

As for the game, it was an a-s-s whooping. Let's drink to it.

That game was a perfect example of what's wrong with America today. The SEC and particularly Alabama is playing with a "stacked deck".

It's obvious that Alabama has an unfair advantage in recruiting talented players just because they are in the SEC. All these other teams want is a fair shot.

You think Nick Saban built that team? It was built on the backs of all the other NCAA schools. The NCAA needs to get tough on the SEC, make it harder to recruit players, take more out of their budget.

It doesn't matter where these kids want to play. Call it The Affordable Talent Act. Level the playing field. No doubt about it. We need to redistribute the talent in NCAA football programs.

Until we do, the rich will just keep getting richer. The top 1% of football programs need to pay. Hey, it's only fair.
Dino,

Actually pretty much all of the major programs, in and out of the SEC, treat these kids like kings and provide every comfort/need you can imagine. The weight rooms, locker rooms, spas, lounges, etc. are just out of this world. Nutritionists, motivational counselors, academic advisors, traveling first class, chefs preparing foods, individual diets, personalized training programs...there is so much money spent it is unbelievable. My alma mater is working on attracting a new offensive coordinator and rumor is the contract will be in the neighborhood of $500,000 per year. Our defensive coordinator, who does a great job, was given an annuity to entice him to stay around for $800,000, in addition to his salary which apparently is around $400,000.

Good work if you can get it.

If ESPN put Holtz in the booth with Musburger and Herbstreet I would go screaming into the night.
