Word from our coach is that "Somehow" water got on the field at Coppell during the day today.

Seems also that Coach English gave away our backup field without consulting our coach.

Looks like a duck, walks like a duck.......

Say what you want about D. English but any coach in America isn't gonna roll the dice after losing the first game of a 2/3 series. If unexpected rain pops up they go home and are out due to Keller winning game one.

Several inches of water on the infield -- 3 hours 'til gametime. Fortunately, people jumped to the rescue and, using shop vacs, the game was played -- 30 minutes late. So....stuff happens. Now, the level of effort being extended to make your game happen -- well......I dunno.

Oh, and how does English "give Boyd away"? Every move should be a mutual decision -- or -->

After the homefield advantage Keller enjoyed last night I am surprised that you would begrudge Coppell there chance to extend their season by playing at least one game on their home field.

KD, your boy and his friends played well last night and beat Coppell. So get over the delay. The Cowboy Complex sucks when it comes to drainage and the city is responsible for any "watering" that might have occurred today on the field.

Believe me no one on the team wanted to wait another day at the chance of getting the taste of last night out of our mouths.

As for resting any arms, only one guy who pitched last night, Kettler will be used in the rest of the series.

Why wasn't an attempt put forward to try to play tonight? I got the call at 3:15, when it was 85 degrees, sunshine and the wind blowing. Almost a full 4 hours before the first pitch.

Why was the backup field given away without the consultation of the Keller coach?

Rumor on this side of town is that one of your starters missed school today, that have any merit?

And I'm not begrudging the Cowboys the opportunity to play on their home field....but there are rules in place for backup fields for a reason and apparently they were not followed by Coach English.

The scheduled starter for tonight was in school today and eating well, that much I can tell for sure.

Coppell did get more rain than other areas did Wednesday and some yesterday.

If coach gave away the field I am sure he thought is wouldn't be a problem to get tonights game.

As far as getting tonight's game in I wish they tried. Thinking Don English created this situation might be giving him too much credit.

Keller has turf on the football field now but when it was grass, they would go as far as hiring a helicopter to hover over the field on Friday afternoons. You do what it takes to make the field playable. The baseball field is still grass. After all the rain we had, do you think the field was playable yesterday morning? Not a chance. My son said he could not believe how much water they pumped off the field to get it ready for last night. But where there is a will, there is a way. Yesterday Keller had the will to play. Today it looks like Coppell has the will to run for another day…

Relax; I’m just having a little fun and I didn’t point toward the players. I’m sure the Coppell kids wanted to play and since they don’t make the decisions they get a free pass on any blame. However, you have to admit somebody made a decision that looks somewhat questionable now…

I know the Coppell ballplayers don’t run from a fight. I’ve been at the Wagon Wheel field by the water tower when the cops had to be called to a game to separate the teams. It’s ancient history now but I am well aware that both Keller and Coppell play for keeps.

By the way, you get extra points for style on the Custer and TRAIN comments. That is funny stuff.

Mysterious water happenings last night? Good thing your "people" got things squared away quickly. After looking at the result however I would have opted for the Coppell way out....."Play it tomorrow"

Anyway tough luck on the playoffs, but congrats on a winning season.

Ok, renting a helicopter wasn't going to happen.

The field was so wet that 10 men and 10 wet-vacs wouldn't have made a difference.

The entire outfield is still soaked today, I don't think there is any more standing water but the whole outfield is still a marsh.

We have been talking about re-doing the entire outfield...it is that bad that we would spend a lot of money to fix it.

Here is the kicker as they say, my 4 year old's s****r game was cancelled today because of a wet field.

Coppell did get 5 inches of rain Wednesday.

Guess what....it is raining in Coppell right now.

I hope the coaches have lined up a different alternate site just in case.

KD, I have to coach my 6 yr's T-Ball game at 3 pm so I won't get there until 4:15. I'll look you up when I get there.

Here's the way I look at it now after a night to reflect.

The Coppell Coaches made a decision for whatever reason....and I have pictures taken of thier field at 7:20pm on my way to Lewisville that doesn't seem to back up their decision. Ya know, a picture is worth a 1000 words.

But, thier decision allowed me to travel to Lewisville and watch my #2 son play his final HS Baseball game, which I would not have been able to do had the game not been cancelled. A night I'll remember the rest of my life.

As I type this, it's raining in Keller........and the games have been pushed back to 3:00pm.


Maybe what Swingdoc predicted might come back to haunt Coach English.

It looked dry or else you wouldn't have stepped on the field.

Cool your jets and your conspiracy theory there KD. There is no "grassy knoll" in Coppell. Meatsdad is right on about the rain. It poured as the team was on their way to Keller. The outfield is a sponge and has absolutely no drainage. They are tearing it up after this summer. As for your rumor concerning Coach English giving away Boyd, you'd better check your sources before spreading stuff like that around. MISD gave the field to another playoff series when it appeared that the Keller/Coppell series would get in as scheduled. Coach English did not give the field away as you "heard".

To be completely honest, yes. But, in your defense and i'm am not going on either side here, I would never recommend or wish that upon any centerfielder.

My reference is to the first time we played Irving at Irving on a Saturday after a rain-out the night before. It was a pool stretching from left center to right center, maybe even a little more than 3 inches in some areas. Needless to say I had to wash my cleats as they were soaked not-so-good-smelling rain water and my left foot was wet up to my ankles. We lost 10-0 so I can't forget that one

LA and MD are right about the field conditions. The rain the other night was varied and Coppell really got hit hard by winds (lots of trees down) and one of the highes rain amounts in the Metroplex. The field was almost saucy and it was misting in Coppell all Saturday morning. Hebron had a tarp on their field and didn't have near the rain. As for the helicopters, all I know is I ain't paying for them.

Keller got tired of paying for helicopters too so they spent a million dollars on turf instead. I don’t really see them doing that for baseball…

Maybe Keller and Coppell could both chip in to help Hebron get some better lighting for their field. Both teams had trouble Saturday.

I think there are enough fields in the Metroplex to avoid spending money on helicopters -- and, sorry to say, more become available each week. Coppell wasn't the only field that was unplayable on Friday night.

Hello all, I have responded in the past, but had to log in once again as a new member since I had not sent a response in such a long time.

I find the dialogue better than most of my soap operas during the day, so I have only read and laughed in the past.

I was also a neutral observer at the Keller game, and it is very interesting with what creative dialogue was taking place. Again, my two boys are long gone from Carrollton, and I have no bias to one team or another.

First of all, the umpiring was as bad as it gets, for both sides. The first game ended with a strike being called on Keller where the pitch was at shoulder height. The batter was so upset that the helmet, bat, etc. came off and was flung to the ground. The bunt at the plate was reviewed by a Keller mom to show that the catcher was not only off the plate, voiding the force play, but the catcher also missed the tag. Ask for the Keller video to confirm. An umpire standing in right field changed the call from the home plate umpire who was two feet from the play.

I also went to the Coppell field that evening to view the game on Friday, but I'm wondering how KD took a picture when the complex was locked and the front was soaked! I hope that you did not muddy your shoes for the sake of a photo of marsh land.

The reason that I had to respond is this, I have never in 30 years of organized baseball with my boys, have I witnessed the poor sportsmanship on display at this game.

Yes, banter was going both ways with some of the Keller fans mimmicking the Coppell bunch and the Coppell bunch questioning some questionable calls. What took this to an unacceptable level were a few of the parents from Keller yelling to hear or see an injury to CG's arm. This went on and continued to stoop to an all time low by the Keller parents. I don't know who KD is, but I sure hope that you weren't one of the classless dads yelling this.

I remeber KD reveling some type of shoving incident with the Keller players and another team early in the year in some parking lot after the game. This wasn't their fault either, as I forgot what justified their actions.

Why not play and act around the game as it was intended. I was very embarrased by the display of the adults with their venting to innocent kids.

Just horrible!

I hate the impression you were left with about Keller. I've known Coach Stramp for many years and that isn't the impression he would want to leave with anyone. I understand the negative impact one or two can make on a program. Hopefully, the parents will also grow from the incident.

I've witnessed first hand the poor sportsmanship by one female fan at Coppell. But I've also watched the Coppell boys be respectful, polite young men on more then one occasion.

Hopefully, everyone can learn to, "...play and act around the game as it was intended."

My 11 year old is a pretty sweet kid and we got him a queen sized last summer...it may cost me double allowance and he is a tough negotiator, but hopefully we can come to an agreement.

The kids in question were Freshman, they tend to get a little wild at times, as did your fans.

I was way over by the dugout and heard about the ruckus but missed it. I made it as far as Bill and Karen DalaShappell to say hi a couple of times.

MeatsDad, your son pitched a heck of a game. Wish we could have capitolized on some base runners, but that's baseball.

And as far as the umpires, yes they were horrible. For both sides. They should be ashamed of themselves, and the play I home I agree with the Coppell side.

Worst year for officiating I have ever seen.

To give you an example, the Lewisville and Southlake Coaches both banded together and asked that a certain umpire not return. They paid him for not showing up and played the game with a 2 man crew.

Felt you pain last year, with a team that did not return to the playoffs this year.

It's rough when injury or the wish of injury is involved. It fired me up last year, however I have learned from my mistakes and try to take the hard turn of the other cheek. We get wiser as we get older. Just some faster than others.

It is easy to look at hindsight, however at the time it is an unbelievable revelation. The thing that bitters me is the "adults" condoning such actions. And they do it blindly to no end. Good luck.
