I was a fan of his when the Sox were considering him for centerfield.

I've seen him play throughout this season. His arm isn't even "passable" for a major league centerfielder. He can run and steal bases and that's it.

Could be the worst centerfield arm in major league baseball?

In the history of baseball?

I don't believe that he can throw the ball on the line over 120 feet!

Beenthere,

I can't imagine that there has EVER been a MLB outfielder with a weaker arm than Pierre. And has there ever been an outfielder with a less accurate arm than Jacques Jones? Jones cannot even throw it straight to the cutoff man and Pierre can't throw it past the cutoff man. How's that for defensive help for your pitcher?
Soxnole,

Bigger bucks yet to come! I'd guess that the Cubs have decided to re-sign Pierre to a long term deal. But if that is the case, you've got to find a replacement in RF for Jones who can both run and throw. You'll have to eat most of Jones' contract but that's not anyone's fault but Hendry. Murton is certainly acceptable in LF and just as he was the player of the year at the Cape just a few years ago, he is IMO a major league hitter. He is also very good trade bait and one of the few starters that another team would even want. For Cub fans it is depressing but true.
Cubs under Dusty have never bothered much with cutoff man anyways. Not certain they care if throw is off-target, short, or airmailed into 3rd row. Just get the ball in "dude" is Dusty's requirement.
Rosy, might be worth watching a bit in September to see the Sept. callups. Unfortunately, with all the injuries and other nonsense it seems as if 1/3 of roster has been September callups since about June.
Hopefully some good offseason signs by Hendry keep us in race till mid-June in 07.
denis,

I admire your tenacity, but I'm too disgusted with this year's disaster. I loved your remarks about Dusty's disdain for hitting the cutoff man, but having seen the entire pitching rotation from West Tenn. already, the only players I'd be interested in seeing are Pie and Patterson. I hope they're called up but I won't be watching them until next spring.

I called my son into my office today with the score 9-8 Cubs. I saw what was unfolding and said, "son, sit down and watch the Cubs blow this game". After Sanchez' flair to right he looked at me and said, "dad, how did you know?" I could only smile and shake my head. Who needs this????

Manny Ramirez may have the worst arm ever and a juiced up sammy sosa!

in the era of "why sac bunt when you can hit a homer" defense doesnt matter anymore. Do you think the wizzard of Oz would of made it with his 262 average? Look at Ray Ordonez, was a great SS when he came up with the mets, they compared him to Smith....he couldnt hit so nobody wanted him! Him and Robbie Alomar were a sick double play tandom

The worst part is that when it mattered, Juan, Murton, Ramirez and Jones were all hitting about 240, and as soon as the towel was thrown in, Ramirez started hitting bombs, Juan got on base...its a joke
dont worry, I saw the same clips on espn of Manny throwing guys out at home from deep third base...but maybe you are right, I was thinking overall as far as his defense

If you had to write a job description out for every position....good arm wouldnt be on top the CF list. Leadoff, get on base, shrink the gaps etc etc. I dont recall but I dont think loften threw that well, or willie McGee
