Ponzi Schemes

I learned about the evils of Ponzi schemes from Howard Cunningham on Happy Days.

Seriously, though, the world is going to hell in a handbasket unless the morality and ethics we used to enjoy in this country come storming back.

The guy committed suicide so he doesn't have to go to that island.

Ponzi schemes exist because people are trusting in nature as well as they are greedy and most are uneducated in the financial world.

In this particular case, the people who were in charge of these funds are just as guilty as the one who scammed them.

JMO.

Yeah...that guy got off the EASY way.

A guy here a couple years back did a Ponzi and took some very dear friends of mine life earnings because they trusted him to do what he said he would.

I guess trusting people nowadays is a thing of the past.

I guess Joe Paterno could testify to that.

Not really. I never trusted anyone willing to spend or invest my money. I've told them all to take a hike. The only reason people want to invest your money because it isn't theirs.

Thieves and deviants of all kinds have always been there and always will be. They are probably at the same proportions as was always there when there were say 1 billion of us instead of 6+. The only difference now from 25, 100 or 1,000 years ago is the internet. You get to hear about it all in bloody detail.

There's a PBS show on Bernie Madoff. It's available at pbs.org video. The investors were never asking how they were doing so well under the current market conditions. One of Maddoff's agents never questioned Madoff's secrecy. Sometimes victims make themselves victims by trusting to much and not asking the right questions.
