All i know is that PVI is most likely ranked 1st.

NDA beat Paul VI 13-0 in 5 innings in SC last week.

Nice! Is there anyone out there who does not wish to shamelessly plug their school who might know the answer to the question?

I don't know that he is involved, but posts about Cape Henry.......Cape Henry I'm sure will be in the top ten of the state, along with GCA when the rankings are posted.

Okay, okay. I know that we post about schools and successes and are all supposed to be gentlemen about it. I apologize for the tone of that post. I was frustrated because I started this thread specifically to get the answer to my question and felt that those two early posts were misplaced in this thread. The "shameless" part was really uncalled for. Mea culpa!

what division of the state independent schools is NDA playing in this year?

when will GCA and CHC meet on the field? both teams having nice years and getting love from the VPilot. would be a nice one for under the lights.

They will meet regular season game on Thursday, the 26th @ CHC. If they go the way they have the past several years, they will meet at the TCIS finals which will be played @ GCA

NDA is Division 1 this year.

Where will it be posted?

Cape Henry is Div. 1 and if the question is who will be pitching Thursday against GCA- the answer is Robert Morey. BTW- Cape Henry got it's 4 no hitter of the year against Peninsula Catholic last night, 15-0 in 5 innings ( to be fair, many teams could have done the same as PC has much work to do ). Pete Levitt got the win, now 4-0, by pitching the first 3 innings of no hit ball and striking out 8, the next 2 innings were pitched by Parker Talbot and Coleman Newell to complete the game. CApe Henry is now 14-0

Have to go 4 innings in a High School game of 7 innings to get the win (similar to a 9-inning game where the starter has to go 5 innings to get credit for the win). So, I guess Talbert got the win and Levitt is 3-0.

The game didnt go 7 innings it went 5. 3 innings is sufficient for the win.

The Cape Henry/Greenbrier game should be worth the time, yes? I am not familiar with Greenbrier except by reputation, but I know CH has some fine team.

Well, I don't know if I can agree with this list. PVI, HDA are perennial top teams. Greenbrier Christian Academy is not even in your list. While I have not seen NA play yet, I have trouble believing that they are better than GCA. Of the teams I have seen, or heard about in depth, I would make my top 4

Impartial, I thought you didn't want anyone to "shamelessly plug their school" on this thread, and then you went ahead and did it yourself. Sounds a touch hypocritical to me. I've seen Morey in a showcase tournament and he handled himself well. Who has Cape Henry played this year that has a good program. GCA plays NDA this Saturday and will probably throw Bulman, who IS the real deal. Maybe you'll get him too next Thursday.

6-10 included Flint Hill, St. Christopher definately and I think it was Collegiate and SSSA. Can't remember the last team or the 6-10 order. I only saw it once for a minute. I think Flint Hill was 6.

Oh and Cape Henry has beaten Benedictine,NSA, St. Christopher,Granby and plays Flint Hill in a double header this Sat. GCA is Division 2 and they are probably No. 1 there and I think Hampton Christian is No. 2. Bulman and Morey are very evenly matched. Both are consistantly in the 91-93 range. Head to head last year in TCIS Final Morey had one more strikeout than Bulman (13)and gave up one less hit (4)....he did walk more than Bulman three I think. GCA won 2-0.

Hokie- you very convieniently ignored the fact that I apologized to the forum for that remark. How have I shamelessly plugged Cape Henry? By disagreeing with a person who rated them 1st in Div 1? I am not even sure if they are 4th, as I thought they might be. What ax do you have to grind? Sounds like you are the real deal's father, or maybe you are the real deal yourself?
Cape Henry plays Greenbrier next Thursday, not tomorrow. If the rotation does not change, Levitt will throw Tuesday against Bishop Sullivan Catholic, and Morey will face GCA, whoever they send to the mound.

Miller beat Greenbrier 2-1 earlier this year. GCA pitched #2 for first 4 innings, then sent in Bulman, who shut them down. So, if rematched in playoffs and Bulman throws, Miller may not fare as well.

Miller was D3 but was moved to D2 this year. So, given their success and noting that they play many Division 1 teams and some strong public schools in the Charlottesville area during the season, Miller should be included in these rankings at least at #2 given what they did with GCA already.

These are the official Division 1 rankings. Paul Vi's baseball website is very good at updating the rankings each week. Greenbrier should have them up soon as well for all Divisions but last year they did not update regularly. Other than those two I have not been able to find them on any website and I have spent considerable time trying. I know NDA and Paul VI play in a MD VA DC Playoff after VA states but I dont know the criteria for that. They do have a seperate poll. The ones I posted will be the ones that determine the 8 VA State Playoff teams in Division 1. That Final poll should be out Tues, May 8. They dont factor in conference playoffs in the final poll for some reason and they are usually played after the final poll. Go figure

The TCIS is stunning this year with CH, GCA and NSA playing well. However, NA is not the 4th best team in that conference, Bishop Sullivan is. BSC moves to 8-5 while NA loses their second in a row and falls to 8-5.( I believe maybe its 9 wins)

As of 4/21, Miller School is 11-4. They won three this week (Liberty Christian, Va Episcopal School, and Fork Union Military).

Again, MWR-VA thanks for the posts. Being away from my boy during the season is tough and being able to read and hear about how the season is going for all these teams helps out a whole bunch.

Cape Henry splits a double header with Flint Hill this past Saturday, losing the first game 1-0 on a past ball in the bottom of the seventh. Robert Morey got his first loss, giving up just 2 hits and striking out 11. The Dolphins were only able to grind out 4 hits themselves, although they hit the ball often and hard- just not where they were'nt.
Coleman Newel got the win in the second game as Cape Henry exploded for 14 hits, in a 8-6 game. The game was not really as close as the score would indicate, as many thought Newel should have been relieved earlier that he was. Pete Levitt came in to relieve in the 4th with bases loaded and 2 away, and after walking the first batter he faced, struck out the next to end the inning. He also added his 6th home run of the season. Robert Morey came back in the 7th to close the game and get the save.
The Dolphins are now 14-1

No doubt - Cape Henry is a great team with great players, coaches, and fans. It was an honor to watch them play and an honor to see our boys take the field with them.

As a Flint Hill parent, I was really proud to see Flint Hill stay in the games and, even in the second game, battle back from a deficit.

Watching the first game was one of those baseball gems for me. A battle between two very different, but very good pitchers, on a gorgeous day. What more could you ask? (Morey is going to UVA and Flint Hill's pitcher has committed to play for Rhodes College in Memphis, TN [35-8 for the season and just bested Trinity of TX to progress to the SCAC tournament]). Flint Hill's fielding in game one was stellar. Again, a pleasure to watch. While my heart ached for Morey (I heard it was his first loss in two years), I thought it was a well played game all around. But, I have to admit, I was really happy for Flint Hill. Congrats to both teams.

I actually think that the second game was closer than the score indicated. Why else bring Robert Morey back to close after pitching a complete first game?

The lefty that started the second game for FHS is coming back from an injury to his left hand. He was not nearly at his best, but did the best that he could that day for his team. He is a star in this mom's eyes. (No, not my son.) As a junior he will be someone that you want to watch in the coming year.

The pitcher that finished the game for FHS is a freshman with great composure and nerves of steal. My personal nickname for him is "iron man" because he comes into these situations that would give pause to older, bigger, more experienced players, and he functions effectively and is seemingly unflappable. Again, a joy to watch and someone worth keeping on your radar screen.

So, thank you to Cape Henry for an enjoyable day of baseball. I hope that Flint Hill was a good host to you and that you shared in our appreciation of a great day at the ball field.

No disrespect intended towards Flint Hill. One of the best teams to play Cape Henry this year. The coach brought Morey in because he, the coach, let it get too close by keeping in the starting pitche way to longr, and he
absolutly wanted to go home with a win in the second game. The other "big" pitcher Cape Henry has, who came in to get the out with the bases loaded, is pitching in a conference game tomorrow, and could not be used much, and I imagine, Mr. Morey wanted his opportunity to partially redeem himself.
The home team crowd, except for the Flint Hill parent who kept calling out the Cape Henry pitching signs he was stealing, were very friendly and accomodating. It was a very good day of great baseball.

I was sitting near the fan who was "stealing" the signs and calling them out (he is not related to me). We were sitting behind the catcher and could see his signs openly. The fan in question actually told your coach that the catcher needed to keep his hand up rather than drop it down where it could be easily seen. Your coach started asking him after each of your defensive innings whether the catcher's hand was dropping. The catcher started hiding his signs more consistently.

I don't agree with calling out anything our from the sidelines, so I am in no way defending him, but I think it may have ended up helping your team. At least you knew that your signs were visable. If our fan had not said anything, the signs would have remained visable for all to see. By speaking up, he at least gave your coach a chance to stop the showing of your signs and may have prevented our coach from reading them.

At any rate, knowing what is coming at you and being able to hit it are two differnt things. I think your pitchers could have told our batters what they were going to throw and it may not have made much of a difference. You have a lot of talent and they were fun to watch.

Hopefully, the games this past Saturday will help your catcher remember to keep his hand tucked up during your conference game tomorrow and in future games and there will be no way his signs can be stolen. Good luck tomorrow!

Not to belabor the point......He only told the coach after the coach yelled at the catcher that his signs were being relayed to the batters. I heard the Cape Henry coach tell this fan that he did not mind and that he would do it as well if he had the opportunity. I absolutely dissagree with him on that one. I believe fans should be fans and let the game be played on the field.

As for states - it would be nice to see you there, but for now it is one game at a time, one pitch at a time, one swing at a time, one play at a time. (Sometimes, I even remember to breath!)

Why even have signs and signals? Just let the coach call them out and the opposing players can be on the "honor system" and not react to their advantage...COME ON!! If a catcher signals so low that people sitting behind him can see them, he should have them stolen. What if the catcher keeps his left leg open and the third base coach can see the signal? Honor system again? Why have multiple signals when a runner is on second? He won't steal them because that would be dishonest.

The only way your catcher is going to learn is to do it the right way so they can't be stolen. T-Ball was a long time ago.

I have no problem with people playing the game stealing signs, that is part of the game. Inside the lines, all is fair. Let the spectators spectate.

I disagree. If the catcher can't hide his signs, why shouldn't someone steal them? As a previous poster sarcastically said...why even have signs at all? Would you feel differently if the "spectator" was actually a coach that was just spectating that game?

I know I am a little late here but bringing Morey back on 2 hours of rest after throwing a complete game and allowing him to cool down through the next game before cranking up again is incredible. I'm sure UVA's coach is cringing reading that somewhere.

No big deal...if it weren't for the fan, your catcher wouldn't have known he was flashing his signals. Most fans can't relay the signal to the hitter in an inconspicuous manner anyway. After a couple of "HEAR COMES THE CURVEBALL" screams any coach with half a brain will figure it out.

My son and I are always trying to pick up signals and see where the breakdown is when we spectate...only to make him better in receiving and relaying his signals to his pitchers.

As far as the fan stealing signs in the CH FH game I dont have a problem with it. First of all unless he had something set up with the players the batter is not going to be listening to a fan. Secondly he did not have enough time to relay a signal to a batter via someone who had contact with the batters either. Stealing signs is part of the game but there are unwritten rules on how to do it. As a first base coach who has done it many times, I know you dont just yell out the pitch. One of two things will happen if you do that, first the signs will probably be changed ruining the advantage and two, although i do not condone this, there are still old school baseball coaches out there that will knock a batter down by throwing one under his chin if they find out signs are being relayed. All the fan accomplished that day at Flint Hill was teaching a young cathcer a valualble lesson. Stealing signs is part of baseball. My advice is just be a little more savy about it. As far as fan involvement, I have seen much worse behavior out of fans directed at my players and that is when we have a problem. Oh and those of you from Flint Hill that read this, you guys are a class act from top to bottom.

Yes top 8 go to states. There was talk of making it 12 this year but it didnt fly. I prefer 8. With 12 the 9-12 have an extra game. Unlikely winining 4 in a row in 5 days. Pitchers better have rubber arms.

So- it's Thursday already and I can find no rankings newer than 4/22! I thought the new rankings come out on Tuesdays?

Thank's! I guess it was the Basketball rankings that came out on Tuesdays. So, any idea when the tournament standings are set? Will it be prior to next weeks TCIS tournament?

I think the final poll that sets the state tournament is the one next week. Top 4 play at home on 5/15 v. bottom 4. 1/8 winner v. 4/5 winner at Shepherd Stadium on 5/17, 2/7 winner v. 3/6 winner on 5/18. Finals 5/19.

Thanks MWR-VA...I have been watching the board for years, but have just signed up recently so I could post. My son is new to the Private School Division III league this year. He made a nice transition from Deep Creek HS in Chesapeake to Alliance Christian. Great academic move and baseball move as well.

The regular season final game between Norfolk Academy and Cape Henry Collegiate has been resheduled to this Saturday. @ 5pm @ Cape Henry. Any other cancellations or reschedules?

Cape Henry VS NA is Sunday at 1PM. It will match up Morey against Beasley. Should be a good matchup pitching wise. Beasley is NA's best and throws mid 80's as a sophomore. He and TJ Costen an 8th grader who also throws around 80 are the future stars of our conference. Beasley has already established himself as a formidable presence on the mound with impressive games as a freshman and this year. NA should compete for the conference in the next couple years as they have a good young group of players returning. As a Cape Henry affiliate, I think NA will be a team to watch the next two years.
There was another important game that has not been played yet NSA vs Greenbrier. If NSA should win there will be a three-way tie at for first in the conference. NSA is very good and has a good chance of beating Greebrier. I think they are very evenly matched with the pitching edge going to Greenbrier. NSA however is one team that is not afraid of anyone they play and that goes a long way in High School baseball.

looks like NSA and Greenbrier weren't as evenly matched as you thought they would be. Greenbrier beat them 12-1 in five innings. NSA didnt record the first hit until two outs in the fourth inning.

Frederisksburg Christian is now 6-7-1 after beating Trinity Christian 4-0.Matt Houston pitched a perfect game with 13 K's.

Cape Henry defeats Norfolk Academy 10-0 in 5 innings. Morey the winning pitcher with Levitt driving in the winning runs in the first with men on second and third with a double down the left field line. Whithead has three hits in the game. This sets the stage for the possible third meeting in as many years of GCA and CHC in the TCIS finals this Friday night. Rotation for CHC this week should be Tuesday quarter finals- Newell, Thursday's semi-finals- Levitt, and the finals will probable be a re-match of Bullman and Morey. More newspaper articles to follow?

Well, it was definitely the most exciting game of the tournament that year......and a heartbreaker for CHC.....

Norfolk Academy defeated NSA today 5-2 behind excellent pitching from John Beasley. It is the second time in two years that NA has knocked off NSA on their home field in the playoffs.

Cape Henry beats HRA 4-1 with Coleman Newell going 5 innings and Robert Morey going 2 for the save. Pete Levit knocked in the winning run and stole 4 bases in the game.

Tomorrrow, in a "Groundhog Day" rematch of two teams who met in last years TCIS Semi-Final game under virtually the exact same circumstances, Cape Henry faces Norfolk Academy @ Greenbreir Christian Academy @ 5pm. Cape Henry will once again put senior 1st team all- conference pitcher and slugger Pete Levitt on the mound against ? from NA. Last year, Levitt threw a no-hitter against NA in a game that saw multiple rain delays as well as a delay due to restarting the lights.....if memory serves, the game did not end until afetr 11pm???
Last year, lower seeded NA surprised favorite NSA to make the semi's and the exact same thing has happened again! With ace Beasley having pitched on Tuesday, who will take the hill for NA tomorrow?

Congratulations to Morey...quite a pitcher.

The CH vs NA game is at 7pm. They always play the 2 seed games later because it is usually a better match up. NA will probably pitch Costen or Forrest. Costen is an 8th grader who has a great future ahead of him and Forrest is a senior side-armer. Both pitched against CH on Sun. The other option would be Dewey....it may be by committee, who ever is most effective stays in.

please confirm that time...the Cape Henry Website says 5pm and i believe the Pilot said so too........

when are state seedings settled ? looks to me like top 4 stay the same, bottom 4 go stc,trinity, collegiate and benedictine.

You were right Drop Bombs I was way off on that one. I guess NA beating NSA proves that point. I still feel NSA played CH tougher than any other opponent this year except GCA. NSA lost that one 4-2 against Morey. I have recently heard from some of the conference coaches that NSA just has no depth at P. Anyway I'll admit when I am wrong I and I was sure wrong on that one!!

The seedings are different this year. They are not doing the final poll till after the conference tournaments for a change. In years past the last poll would have been yesterday but it is now next week. As far as the top four, NSA lost 2 in a row and one against an unranked team so i think they will drop some. I don't know who won the Collegiate St Chris game either but that should affect it too. I think you can count on the top 3 staying the same as long as CH beats NA.

stc beat collegiate, benedictine lost twice this week. trinity won twice, nsa has beaten all of them. i THINK i have this right.

NSA did beat all of them. But stranger things have happened in the polls. We will just have to see. Judgeing by your updates They should probably stay put and trinity should move up but the rest is a toss up. Factor Flint Hill in there too and someone is going to get left out. When it comes to the polls though I have seen teams with losing records get in over teams with records like 19-6. Its all up to the 3 voters.

The NA cape Henry game should be an interesting one...Patrick Rice is on the hill for Academy despite a broken wrist

Levitt still is not sure where he is going. He has had VCU looking and a couple others. He will have a lot of people watching him pitch against NA so maybe this week will be his week. Rice is really pitching? That is a surprise.

Levitt went 6 innings last night against a very scrappie Norfolk Academy team in a 4-1 win putting Cape Henry Collegiate in the final game tonight against Greenbrier Christian Academy. His 3 run HR in the third was the game winner.
