My son is a junior 2010 rh pitcher and is 5ft 11 and weighs 138 lbs. he cruises 85-86 and hits 87 on stalker frequently. he has solid command of 3 pitches and has a 3.55 gpa. we are waiting on march sat results. will college recruiters be able to project him down the road. I am 6ft 2 and weigh 205 and was just like he was as a junior. It is impossible for me to get hm to gain weight

If lowfog #2 has what it takes, the scouts will see him...Oftentimes they are looking for big/tall pitchers and my guess is that is why you are asking about the projectability piece of it. However, with that being said, he obviously needs to be able to command multiple pitches, can hit his spots and does not get ripped very often. One question, what sort of running, exercise program is he on.eating, etc. Gotta Gain Weight

Lastly, going into the summer of 2009, I hope that you plan on having him attend at least 1 PG in TX(my home state)as well at the WWBA @ ECB and PG in Florida...

If he has what you say he does, I believe at least one of the Texas Teams would ask him to come down to FL., especially Jupiter.

Should he not reach your height, they are still able to project his velocity and he should be fine.

Remember Billy Wagner?

Good Luck and enjoy the ride....They go by too fast!

do you know anything about houston slam and their college tour summer program????

No unfortunately not. My exposure to baseball has been mostly in the Southeast. But have ran into several programs through the years when my oldest was playing and got into some major tournaments with Houston Heat, Banditos & Team Kelly.

Reminds me of an amusing side. I remember back when my son was meeting coaches for the first time. The coach would usually introduce himself to us and then meet privately with my son. My son always told us to 'look as big as you can' because the coach is trying to see how big I'll get.
Didn't you just hate wearing padded shoulders in your jackets? Smile

lowfog,

Any pitcher who weighs 138 lbs and cruises 85-86 in his junior year of HS sounds projectable.

I'd like to see a report of how many 140-lb-and-under pitchers hit that velocity at Perfect Game events, and then take a look at where those pitchers ended up.

Encourage your son to keep eating healthy and taking good care of himself and his arm. The weight will come in the new few years, and there's a good chance (though of course not guaranteed), that a few mph will come along too.

College recruiters may do a little bit of projecting but usually not too much as they are looking relatively near term. He's got good numbers now and sounds like he'll keep improving over the next few months before the early signing period. The plan you've got for him sounds fine and unless you are targeting somewhere like Stanford or the equivalent he should have a reasonable shot at getting signed somewhere. As for any specific school that depends also on what they are looking for that season.
