Glad you mentioned him.  I didn't know him as a player but I lived in New York in the late eighties and listened to Kiner call Mets games frequently.  He was a knowledgable play-by-play man, and very easy to listen to, quite a contrast with Scooter Rizzuto of the Yankees broadcast team.  Believe it or not, his broadcast partner, Tim McCarver, was a fresh, interesting color man back then.  They had a third man in the booth named Steve Zabriskie who is still in the radio business in NorCal, last I heard.

JCG I go back a little further. I remember when his broadcast partners were Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson, What sports coats he wore! They were entertaining and informative on a nightly basis, while broadcasting for some woeful clubs. Couldn't wait for Kiners Korner after the game. That was pre-cable and pre-ESPN 24hr sports, so you loved the interviews when you saw them.
