After reading current and previous threads on how facilities (or lack of) impact the recruiting process, I started thinking. Some programs have great facilities, some have recently upgraded and some have future projects/upgrades planned. What your experiences with recruiting and facilities?

I understand the product on the field and how a player fits into the program is most important, but we all know the kids look at this stuff. If all other things are equal... let's talk about facilities.

In Lubbock, Tech's Dan Law Field has had some major core upgrades over the past 15 yrs. Starting with the seating and luxury box expansion project in 1996, thru the building of new indoor facilites, i.e. weight rooms, locker room upgrades, sports medicine facilities, indoor hitting areas, and concluding with the renovation/installation of total field turf, Tech's looking pretty good.

Thoughts? I'll add my take after some discussion. GED10DaD

Facilities are a factor, but not close to the most important factor, at least in the experience of our family and others we know. Location, tradition, coaching, conference, quality of the school are all more important factors. That said, I am sure Texas Tech will derive great benefit form the upgrade in its facilities.
My son's dream school was the U, this was way before they improved their facilities, but somehow it doesn't matter, Mark Light Field in an awesome place to watch a baseball game. Have they improved their athletic training facility, that was in much need of fixing up lasty time I saw it. We have been to games since they improved the stadium, with Arod's help.

Facilities are important, to me it shows a commitment the school is making to it's athletic department and it's athletes, but it shouldn't be the sole factor in the decision.

For those of you wondering why UF gets top recruits to sign in so many sports, it's an athletes playground.
Well, if you have crummy facilities, it's like trying to sell your house when it looks bad. Maybe you can persuade someone to buy it anyway, but it's just human nature to be impressed by a nicer setup.

From a practical perspective, you have to remember that when times are tough, baseball has historically been one of the sports that is always threatened with the axe. When someone shows a financial commitment to the sport, that's a positive. When the facilities are inadequate and run down, you have to wonder if the next recession would mean that your sport would cease to exist at your school.
My son and I were on a recruiting trip last week to Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN. Tusculum is a small D2 private school with a great baseball program. The shocker, though, is that on a small campus of about 1,000 students sits a ball park that is as nice as anything we have seen (including the new D1 complexes at UNC and South Carolina).

A rich alum built the stadium for the school a few years ago. The Astros' rookie team plays there in the summer. If you want to see a picture tour of the facilities, go to: http://tusculumbaseball.com/pics.aspx

Thanks for sharing, great facilites. Now if they just had the fans that UNC or South Carolina have. LOL

It is neat to see pics of a facility/school that you have never even heard of!
Wow! Where do I sign? ;-)

Awesome stuff...

Here's the 2010 highlight video for TTU and Dan Law Field, and yes, that is the Masked Rider and Midnight on the field: Texas Tech Highlights

Here's a couple pages of photos of the renovated locker room, baseball offices, sports medicine treatment rooms, indoor cages, etc: Texas Tech Facilities
