Outlaw booing eh?
Maybe we should just outlaw negative experiences for our children. I mean, go all the way. Completely sanitize their lives. Outlaw anything that might upset them.
I didn't see the need for a no-booing law here because people seem decent enough not to boo high school players. Sure there are some occasional vollies with the umpires, but it is part of the game and life.
Just imagine for a moment if all of life's potential negative experiences were removed. Somehow we could wish them away, or worse, legislate them away. What type of life would that be? Would joy have any meaning without contrast?
Here is a song that is a favorite of mine and I have posted it before. It talks about what might be missed when we attempt to avoid things that are also part of living.
The Dance
by Tony Arata and Garth Brooks
quote:
Lookin' back,
On the memory of
The dance we shared,
(be)Neath the stars above
For a moment,
All the world was right
How could I have known,
That you'd ever say goodbye?
And now,
I'm glad I didn't know
The way It all would end
The way It all would go
Our lives,
Are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain,
But I'da had to miss the dance.
Holding you,
I held everything
For a moment,
Wasn't I a king?
But If I'd only known,
How the king would fall
Hey who's to say,
You know I might have changed it all
And now,
I'm glad I didn't know
The way It all would end
The way It all would go
Our lives,
Are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain,
But I'da had to miss the dance
It's my life,
It's better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'da had to miss,
The dance
