With the State playoffs winding down this week (in AZ), just want to pick your thoughts with regards to what weight Pro/College scouts/recruiters put into player's performances in the playoffs. Granted that there may be still a lot of talented players out there that did not make the playoffs, for those players whose teams are fortunate enough to make it,
Does a breakout playoff performance make a difference?

I know there are studs who has been followed already even before the start of the season whose stock will probably even rise higher with a great playoffs. This question is for an average or above average player or even an unknown quantity who raises his game to another level during the playoffs and help his team.

The premise of this question is based on the fact that I personally feel that playoff play are pressure filled and if a player thrives on pressure, this is a quality (mental toughness) that cannot be measured by plain numbers and can only be seen by keen observers.

It's not a secret that there are more eyes in the playoffs that a regular season game for the most parts.

Good luck to all vying for the championships and looking forward for Summer Games/Tournaments.

IMO, yes. But perhaps not in the way you are thinking. "Breakout performance" for a scout/coach I believe will still boil down to the basics.

Pitcher - velocity, pitch-ability, command of more than one pitch.

Hitter - results with good mechanics on the swing.

I watched a really good HS playoff game tonight with a fair number of scouts in attendance. I believe there are fans/parents who think there were some breakout performances in that game based on results of some players. I doubt the scouts saw anything other than what they expected.
This is an unlikely occurance, but I do know 3 above average players from the same team who recieved D1 offers after "breakout" playoff performances. None had any prevous D1 interest, but all had phenomenal state tournament performances, seemingly out of nowhere. The saying, "you never know who is watching" rang true in this instance.
