Picked Off - have you connected with baseball24/7?  Pretty sure he has one still at UCI.  Could be another HSBBW get-together.  And if you're looking to cut down on the $300 hotels, you do know about Air B'nB, right?

Wapak - very cool... had to love that call!

Thanks cabbagedad, airbnb is pretty cool, did not know about it, thanks. Wife is down there on business so her company is picking up the hotel, love that expense account. I will reach out to baseball24/7.

Charleston Suddenly Becomes a Weekend Hotspot for College Baseball!

Some real scrambling has taken place in some baseball offices over the last 24 hours, and Charleston, SC, is the beneficiary.

The College of Charleston was to have traveled to Chapel Hill for a 3-game series against North Carolina. However, when itbecame clear that the winter storm was going to make the field unplayable in Chapel Hill, the decision was made to play the series in Charleston. It'll now be played on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Hang with me here. It gets a little complex:

The Citadel is hosting a 4-team tournament this weekend. The other 3 teams are Delaware, Louisville, and West Virginia. Earlier today, Delaware called The Citadel and let them know that they wouldn't be able to get there for their Friday game.

Meanwhile, Charlotte had been scheduled to host a tournament involving Youngstown State and Virginia Tech. That tournament was cancelled earlier today.

When Virginia Tech learns that the Citadel tournament is short a team on Friday, they offer to take that spot, playing The Citadel. Then, Delaware will make up the Friday game it had to miss by playing Virginia Tech on Saturday. It remains to be seen if a 3rd game will be found for Virginia Tech before they return to Blacksburg.

The Result?

A two-team tournament at the College of Charleston and a 5-team tournament at The Citadel! If you're a fan of college baseball in that area this weekend, you should treat yourself to at least a couple of games!

At least they get to play.  PHCC in Martinsville (where my son is at) had to postpone today's games (a doubleheader vs Averett) and the weekend series with Wake Tech due to the weather.  They have at least 12" on the field.

Here at home we had 5"-6" overnight which turned to a light rain and about 2 1/2 hours ago turned back to snow.  We've received another 2"3" since 5 pm.  Can't even tell the roads were cleared.........

Come on Spring!

Even if we wanted to, it would be tough sledding to get to Charleston.

I sent you a PM (Dialog) Picked Off.  How exciting that your son is traveling with the Bulldogs this weekend.  After reading what a good portion of the country is going through with this crazy weather, please enjoy our 80 degree weather in Southern California this weekend.  I'm sorry, I just watched the local news, and we'll be down to the low 70's by Sunday....I hope you and your wife can handle that!!??

Well, my wife and I are off to see our first games of the season--senior year--and I am excited. Supposed to be in the mid to high 50's in Mississippi so that won't be too terrible compared to what some of you guys are going through. Even in south Texas where we live it has been a winter with more cold days (20's and low 30's) than normal this year. I am not really a winter person so I feel for those of you who are suffering in the cold.  And worse yet, having to cancel ball games!

Safe travels Three Bagger.

Hopefully all this snow melts by the time my son's home opening series a week from tomorrow starts.  Suppose to be much warmer next week - into the 50's-60's by Thursday next week.

At least the sun is out today even though it's only going up to 39 F or so.

Great stuff.

My husband and I decided to attend a D1 college game and we have a local mid major. This is the first spring in 19 years son isn't playing. The visiting team was from Utah and the student coach is a young man my son played with in the minors. Both done playing. They are meeting for dinner.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about being at a game knowing this is the first Spring that he hasn't played in 19 years.

It was fun miss the heck out of him in a uniform, but enjoyed baseball.

Enjoy every thing about it. The smell of the food, the songs during innings etc. It goes by so fast. We had a great time and plan on going more.

Going to catch CD son when he plays the River Cats as well.

Good luck to your boys, its a lot of fun. It was nice not stressing about performance))

Good weekend of baseball for us.  Took 2 out of 3 conference games from a top 25 team in D2.  The team we played had scored 75 runs in their 6 wins (6-0) before they came to us.  Lost the 1st game 9-7, but came back to win 3-2 in 10 innings, then 4-1 in the rubber game.  Bball son came back after a little bit of a shaky outing last weekend to pitch 3 scoreless innings only giving up a single in the rubber game.

Good luck to everyone out there.  Good to be hearing all the stories again.

Thanks Fenway and Mary! Just spent the weekend watching the opening series and it was an amazing time. I was blown away by a few things:
1)how kind and welcoming the parents of the older players are.
2) how good the older guys are to the new guys.
3) how quickly teammates can become like brothers.
Feeling so blessed that my son gets to be a part of such an amazing team!

Great stuff Blue! It seems like yesterday my senior son was in the same position as yours (and funny, but I met Fenway at the same first game). As they say, the time will fly. Enjoy all that goes with it and get to as many games as you can. It will only happen once!

PO Jr got the ball tonight. Threw the last 2 innings in a 10-1 win. So glad I decided to go. Even happier that there was no pressure with an 9 run lead.

2IP, 0 hits & 2k's

We got a bite after the game and he told me he had a hard time trying not to smile. He said after he struck out the first batter he was fine.

Thanks 24/7! So glad I got to see him pitch. Great baseball this past weekend. Good luck to your son and his team. Nice meeting you!

Son's team had a good outing today.  Won two away games 7-4 and 12-4.  Son had a double and several walks.  They are 2-2 on the season.

Suppose to be the home opener this weekend. It's also their first conference opponent. Normally they would play a DH on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, but due to the recent weather there is still 8" of snow in right field so they are talking of moving the DH to Sunday and drop the 3rd game.

We were planning to go, but it is a 4.5 hr drive and it's a bit much to drive down for just one day.  Beside we'd have to leave in the middle of the 2nd game as my wife (works nights) would have to report to work by 11 Sunday night.  Guess we'll have to wait for another weekend.

Slight schedule update.  Son's team is now playing a single game this evening and a double header on Sunday - trying to let the field dry out.  All the snow has melted, but the field is now soaked.  Hopefully the moderate temperatures (60's) and a little sun will help.

We're still not going - it's been a stressful week and wife needs to relax and not worry about getting back in time for work.  We'll go in a few weeks.

Congratulations on the successes of everyone's boys.  Very exciting to hear.

My son's team has been doing well, especially in conference play.  They are 5-1 after completing a sweep this weekend.  My son seems to have fallen into the 1st reliever in the 3rd conference series game role.  Yesterday he came in to start the 6th inning and got to finish the game.  4 innings, 3 hits, 6 Ks, no walks, no runs.  He looked good and it was fun to watch.

We think we've figured out the scheme of the pitching for the team.  Although you never know, it could change at any minute .  They have their 3 weekend starters, then for each game, there has been a designated reliever, then the closer.  If the 1st in relief gets in trouble, they'll bring someone else in, but it seems to be the same 3 starters and the same three 1st in relief for now.  So, that helps us plan on when to go to the games.  As all the parents of relief pitchers know, it is a real c**p shoot as to when your son will hit the mound and you never know when to show up.  So, having things set up like this helps us out a lot.

Looking forward to more stories and successes.

Glad to hear others boys are getting good success....

Mine still looking to get some time.  Has 2/3rd of an inning in a losing effort (came in to stop bleeding) but that's all.  Coach seems to stick with JR and SR's.  Only 1 other frosh and 1 soph got any time on the hill this year so far.

Paying his dues....looking for an opportunity.
