That is so awesome!!  I read the D3 TOTW every week, and wow, you really have to have a great, great week to make that list!

One tough customer there Three Bagger! Kind of knew it when I saw him play. Good luck down the stretch! Chris is really banged up right now. Played two weeks with a displaced bone in his foot, took a pitch off the left elbow, and this past weekend fouled a ball directly off his left knee shin area, real nasty looking and swollen. Still played both games of doubleheader, though I think he should have sat. The toughness of some of these kids amazes me sometimes.

Congratulations to your Son!

Congrats leftyshortstop!  That is great news, and enjoy it while you can.

Great stuff. That is some amazing streak and a nice honor. Enjoy the rest of his year.

I'll be headed to Los Angeles tonight to watch my son's team take on LMU for a Non-Conference game.  Unfortunately he will not be pitching, as he was shut down for a minimum of two weeks due to an elbow strain last week.  He will see the surgeon tomorrow and hopefully be released to start a brief throwing program.  Please send your Prayers/Good Thoughts (whatever ya got!) for him.  He's already endured enough arm problems, Thanks...I appreciate it!

Whatever I got . . . He'll get.

Best to you all.

x2.

Lets go for a triple!

Lets go for a Grand Slam

Prayers and thoughts for KD from the Northeast. May he return to health and pitching in the next couple of weeks.

Time for an update.

PHCC has dropped the last two weekend (conference) series.  Palm Sunday weekend they went 1-2 against Rockingham.  Lost the first game 6-5.  Rebounded to win the 2nd game 7-6 and lost the final game 3-2.  Son went 2-5 in game 1, 1-3 in game 2 and 0-5 in the 3rd game.  Losing that series, allowed CVCC to take over 1st place from PHCC in the conference.

Easter weekend PHCC hosted the conference leader, Catawba Valley.  On Good Friday they were swept in the double header, losing 3-2 and 7-5 (8 innings), but came back to squeak out a 2-1 win in the 3rd game on Saturday..  In his first at bat Dylan fouled a pitch off his left ankle and was in significant pain the rest of the day.  He did manage to get a single and hit his 19th double (ranked 3rd in NJCAA in # of doubles).  The boys never gave up.  In game 2 they were down 4-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, but managed to score 3 runs to send the game into extra innings.  Had a chance to get out of the 8th without allowing any runs.  CVCC had runners at the corners with 1 out.  Batter hit a grounder back to the pitcher who then over threw the 2B (ball sailed into CF).  Had they been able to turn the double play I believe PHCC would have gone on to win.

PHCC still has a chance to finish 1st, but only if CVCC drops at least 4 of their last 6 conference games and PHCC sweeps Surry the first weekend of May.  PHCC's next 7 games are all non-conference - Averett (DH), Louisburg and Guilford Tech (2 DH's) with final series at Surry.

Depending on how the next 2 weeks plays out PHCC could finish anywhere from 1st to 4th (maybe 5th or 6th).  Top 7 go to the Region X tournament so they are pretty much locked in - just a question as to what seed.

And to top it off, my son rolled his ankle in practice today and may not play tomorrow or Wednesday.  He has been the starting 1B all season.

Yes indeed, congrats to Tim! I've had numerous PM's with Birdman14 the last couple of years, he's a great guy and I'm very happy for his son.  Tim is currently leading his team in batting average at .360 & is 4-2 on the bump as the team's Sunday starter.  That's quite an accomplishment....all of that going on with Tim and Birdman14 still found the time to send me a PM to check in on my son's progress...he is a class act.

Well, I guess it was bound to happen.  With his ankle really sore, coach sat Dylan for tonight's non-conference game at Averett.  First time in 41 games this season he did not play.  He didn't sound particularly upset.  They have 5 non-conference games before their final conference series.  Coach is trying to let him heal before they really need him back in the line up.  Very questionable for tomorrow night's game.  Might be good to go for the weekend, then it's five days rest before the final series and then the playoffs that begin on the 9th.

Well, this is going to be a big weekend for our son's team.  They are tied for 1st in the conference going into the last weekend series.  The team they are tied with is the #2 team in the country.  If both teams sweep, I'm not sure what the tie breaker is.  The good news is we have an easier opponent, although anything can happen.  Hopefully, we can take care of business and get the sweep and the other team will falter.  Either way, it's turned out to be a good year.  They were only picked to finish 6th in the conference to start the year.  Right now, they are ranked #10 in the country in most polls.  Go Cougs!!

Thanks coach.  40 wins is a ton!!  And they can still win more.  Lander has definitely had a great season.  And yes, there is a lot on the line for sure.  We had a chance to go into the last series with a one game lead - which I would have been much more comfortable with - if we had swept USC-Aiken last weekend.  2 out of 3 is still pretty good against Aiken though.  They are a good ball team.  I'm definitely planning on going to the tournament on May 10 & 11.  We'll have to hook up.  Always good to meet another HSBBWer.

Thanks cabbagedad.  I'll be following online though.  The Juco D2 Region X tournament is in Morehead City, NC - just a bit farther than I can afford to go.  They do "webcast" the games (like ESPN you get to see who's pitching, at bat, strikes, balls and outs) and there is a play-by-play that can be viewed "live".

The JuCo WS is better - they actually stream the video of the game online.

I do hope PHCC does better than last year.  Last year they won the 1st game, but then lost then next two to take a somewhat early exit.  Hoping this year they can at least advance to the Region X championship game and give themselves a chance to get to the WS in Oklahoma.

2013 Son threw his first Bull-pen session live, following their home game tonight, while Coaching Staff and Teammates saw him throw for the first time, as he had TJ surgery last Summer. Told to hold back on 100% . But, he felt really good! Felt confident, on and accurate,  and velocity was right there. And no pain! Everybody cheered him on and congratulated him.

Well, regular season ended today. Son's team won 2 out of three, but team we were tied with swept their series. We wound up in 2nd place in the conference. Not bad considering we were picked to finish 6th. Unfortunately, my son got the loss in the first game of the series, which basically lost us a piece of the conference title. He came in in the 7th in a tie game and gave up one run in 1 2/3. We couldn't score and lost 7-6. It's a shame because we were up 6-0 in the second and just couldn't score after that. Won the next two 9-5 and 11-6. Final regular season record was 36-14, 23-7 in the conference. My son wound up 4-2 with one save. Had a 2.14 ERA in 33 2/3 innings pitched with 10 BBs and 25 Ks.  Pretty good comeback compared to last year. Getting that last loss takes a little of the steam out of it though.

Looks like we will still be getting a bid to the Regionals and we still have the conference tournament to look forward to. Can't believe the regular season is over already.

Just got back from an exciting Senior Day weekend as my son's #7 ranked Delta State(Collegiate Baseball News) met the #4 ranked West Florida in a three game series with conference and regional implications. West Florida entered 31-6 overall, 22-4 in conference while Delta State entered at 32-9 overall and 21-5 in conference. Delta State had the best team batting average by far in the conference at .330 and West Florida had the best ERA including a pitcher who was 10-0 with an 0.64 ERA. Clearly something had to give in the last three regular season games of the season.

On Friday night Delta State entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 5-0 with only five hits up to that point. But in the bottom of the ninth the Statesmen cracked out six solid hits and a couple of walks to win walkoff style 6-5. Son had a good day with four of the eleven Statesmen hits including a big one in the ninth.

Saturday's double header was swept by Delta State 4-0 and 7-4 against two undefeated West Florida pitchers. So in the end our Delta State clinched the conference title and the number one seed in the conference tournament starting this coming weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. The crowds were very large and excited. It was bittersweet knowing these were my son's last games on Ferriss Field but there are still a few more to go in the playoff rounds, who knows maybe all the way to Carey NC. It was great to play against a quality foe and have everything work out for Delta State after a somewhat slow start this season (4-4). This team with a lot of new players has bonded and two weekends in a row came back from big late deficits showing a lot of teamwork.
