Are there any common things that a pitcher might do to tip a pitch? Lots of times i notice that the pitchers arm angle will drop on a curveball, but are there any pre pitch changes that are fairly common among pitchers? Are there any specific parts that you might see a variation in from pitch to pitch? I do realize that not all pitchers are going to have something easy to pick up on, but I think you guys know what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Good question.
A pitcher should always have a repeatable delivery, meaning he does the same thing over and over again despite the pitch he will throw.
Same for the arm slot, it should be the same for every pitch.
If a pitcher is not doing the above, most good hitters can figure it out, but you would have to have seen the pitcher a few times for this. And if they can figure him out, he won't be a pitcher for very long at the higher levels (college, proball).

If you are a hitter, rather than trying to figure out what he is going to throw by his body language, be familiar as to what is usually thrown in a specific count and what pitches the pitcher relies on. A pitcher with just two pitches is a lot easier to figure out than one with more in his arsenal and not afraid to use them at anytime.

Steven Ellis, now you are giving away pitchers secrets! Big Grin

I'll relay what someone told me once, any hitter that has to rely on looking for tips, will rarely be successful, he has no confidance that he can get the job done on his own! Same way when a pitcher begins to nibble.

Makes sense to me!
