they shouldn't be heavier; the density should be comparable to a regulation baseball.

I've hit with wood bats against the yellow balls in the past and did break a few, but I think a hardball would have broken them just the same, due to where on the bat the ball was hit.

Unless you're using a really cheap bat, a yellow ball should not break the bat when impacted on the sweet spot.

I always taped up my practice woods, from the trademark to an inch before the end of the barrel, to keep the bat from getting marked up and to provide a little extra strength.
