Hi I just got invited to the WWBA World Underclass Championship in Fort Myers, Fl from Oct 7-10. I was just wondering if anyone knows about this event and if it is a big deal or not and if I should consider going. I'm also wondering if the reason I got picked for this event was because I just attended the Minnesota State Showcase and they sent an invitiation to everyone who attended, or if I got chosen because they saw how I played and wanted to see more.

My son, an 05, attended the WWBA underclassman as a junior and while the competition was excellent the number of pro and college scouts in attendance was small. The other WWBA/PG tournament in Oct. in Jupiter, Florida had a very large number of scouts(over 150 scouts) present.

If you can attend the one in Jupiter I would choose that one over FT. Myers. In Jupiter there are over 1500 kids with some of the best talent in the nation. A large number of pro and college scouts from every Division attend. It is a huge event.

I would also check with the schools that are recruiting your son to see which event they will be attending. Because both events are scheduled within 10 days of each other, most schools do not attend both.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

I had my son, an 06' attend the Underclass Showcase last year with the hope it would lead to an invite to "the big one" Jupiter. While there were a few scouts on hand for the Underclass event, hundreds showed up for the Jupiter Event. Many of these coaches were there to see 05' players and finish up recruiting before the November signing period.

The true positive that came from having my son at both events was the invitation that arrived early the following year for the Perfect Game National at Turner Field. My son had given the folks from PG the opportunity to see him at 2 National Events (he performed well) and they in turn invited him to Atlanta. The National is an invite only event attended by 100's of recruiters.

I for one would tell you, if your son is an underclassmen, attend both if you can afford to. If he's an 06' and still looking, make sure you do whatever is possible to be in Jupiter and send e-mails and letters to every school he's interested in, telling them he'll be there.
I will be starting all over again this fall with an 09'. walk
